The main purpose of music is to add joy and happiness to peoples lives. That’s why all these old songs almost always make you feel happy at the end of them. I think the younger generation has kind of forgotten that.

The Doobie Bros. say that there are enough bands out there singing about sad things. They are decidedly upbeat in the music and determined to play shows that are ‘happy’.

@@gregsteele806 They have to be some of the best musicians in the business to switch between the two so effortlessly. Sure, most rockers play other styles but what they do is on a different level.

They became Michael McDonald's band completely losing the Doobie Bros. uniqueness. They were told to go along with wherever McDonald was taking them (basically Michael putting himself front and center -- usurping -- the band for himself) or else they would be let go. And sure, DJ's played McDonald's songs -- giving them way more airtime than they warranted because the music industry is political even back then. But, prior the McDonald's takeover, the Doobie Bros were awesome!

The early Doobie Bothers, their first five albums but their 2nd through 5th specifically, were their absolute best. They were pretty much _the_ rhythm rock and roll band of the 1970s. Tremendous rock and roll and we teenagers loved them back in the 70s! And great lead guitars and vocals. Everything about them was great and they had so many hits you heard them almost every hour back then on AM radio! "Dark Eyed Cajun Woman" from "The Captain and Me" should be your next reaction from the Doobies!

Whenever i hear this song it always makes me think of the summer in 1973. I briefly lived in Woodstock Illinois and a co-worker of one of my brothers always had hashish, so i was pretty much always high that summer listening to a lot of good music that came out that year. ( i remember many evenings sitting in the town square chilling...that's the square where they filmed " Groundhog Day "

This is a song almost everybody in Sweden who has been dancing has heard. DJs have played it nightly since it came out, but very few people know who it's by or what the name of the song is - they usually guess "Without Love" - but it still fills the dancefloor. So, it may not be disco, but it sure works on the dancefloor.

Mid to late 80s had me working a tour that landed us in Nashville for a couple nights with a layover before Memphis. We wandered into what was seen as the Mekka of anything Country Music Off to the side was an elderly gent with a table of his memorabilia. Then the groups wandered in and this guy came to life. Invited to join the stage, the bands thought they would need to slow down for him. Were they wrong When he cut into Orange Blossom Special he was after the band repeatedly to pick it up. Then you saw some harp playing.
