This was at the Rock n roll hall of fame induction. The reason there are so many up there is because this is ALL of the guys that had played in the eagles along their crazy history as a band playing together for this one and only time ever. So legendary. Watch thr history of the eagles DVD if you want to be entertained for over 6 hours. You would be AMAZED at how bad ass each and every one of these men actually were. This is only one of hundreds of songs that will blow your mind. Joe Walsh in the brick suit was one the craziest dudes in rock history both on and off the stage. Much love and keep up these awesome videos.

This song actually first came out in 1976 (The Rock and Roll hall of fame inducts bands who have been around for at least 25 years and been "culturally significant"). This is probably The Eagles' most famous song. (although they have a lot of other good songs too) The song makes a commentary on excess in America and how so many folks get trapped in the idea of being a rich celebrity. Side note: The double-necked guitar is rare but there are a few others that play one - most notably Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin

Hotel California is indeed one of the treasures of rock music - of any era. It visits every known rock mood (soft rock, pop rock and so on), it has intelligent story lyrics, it is flawlesssly performed and produced and it builds to that fantastic guitar finish which still thrills new listeners like yourself after getting on for 50 years. Quite an achievment I think.

I saw the Eagles last month, in Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh, Scotland. I'm 62 years old (How did that happen?) and have been playing their music, since I was a young guitar player in the 1970's. Although their number has sadly diminished, their sound is as magnificent as it once was. My life ambition to see them live, eventually came to be and I was not disappointed.

@mikefetterman6782

The Eagles greatest hits album was the number one selling album for decades. That guitar is a 6 string guitar and a 12 string guitar. This is so you can play different parts without switching guitars. A double necked guitar is the term, and it could be in many formations, a 6 & 12 string, 6 string and a bass, or just different tunings. Jimmy Page famously used a double necked gibson for "Stairway to heaven" on stage. Rick Nielson from the group "Cheap Trick" has a 5 necked Hamer guitar, 5 guitars in one.

😳 I was born in ‘59 and grew up in the ‘70s, graduating in ‘77, but I never was allowed to listen to popular music and didn’t know about ANY groups (even The Beatles) until I started working at 15. 😑 I only heard church music, classical, big bands, and Irish & Scottish music - a LOT of that! Such a loss! 5 years after first hearing bands like the Eagles, I had my first kid and there was no money to buy albums for years (and 4 kids) after. I didn’t even know there was a 2 neck guitar, let alone…. Just wow 😮

Too many people move to California thinking it is the land of milk and honey where dreams can come true.. One neck has an acoustic sound, one a classic electric. The Eagles are one of the best bands ever. At least 3 members went on to very successful solo careers when the band split. So many amazing songs for you to discover!

One neck has 12 strings; the other 6.

A double-neck guitar is actually pretty common. This particular one is a Gibson 1275, its based on a Gibson SG (think Angus Young from ACDC). It is literally 2 guitars stacked.The upper guitar is a 12 string, the lower a normal 6 string. There is a switch located in the center down by the bridge that allows you to switch between the two. You can only play on one neck/guitar at a time. Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin plays a red one in the Stairway To Heaven video.

They have sold over 200 million records worldwide. Over 100 million in the US alone. I first heard them in the very early 70's and got to see them in 1974 and even now without the late great Glenn Frey, they are worth the price of admission.

Rumour perhaps? This song is about someone ending up in a coven of Satanists. Did The Eagles ever clarify that?

The Eagles were admitted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996. The song you are reacting to was released in 1976. I've got the album that I bought in 76. This was one of the baddest bands ever. Welcome to Rock in it's purest form. I'm 73 and I would smoke some great weed and crank this baby up LOUD!!

The 12 string guitar is the top head, and later he uses the lower head 6 string for other parts of the song.

You missed something, they were elected into the hall of fame in 1998, but Hotel California came out in 1973, I believe. The guy in the brick suit, Joe Walsh, also had a group of his own. The Eagles took a long hiatus, but re-grouped and turned out some more fantastic music. In fact, they were in the middle of a tour when Glen Frey passed away. After some time, his son joined the group on the tour. Vince Gill also performs with them.

This has been my favorite song since 1976 when it was released. I used to think way back then it was about drugs. A few years back I found out it is about the excess & materialism in the California lifestyle. Another tidbit is the guitar solo is consider the best of all time.

In 1977, when I was in high school, The Eagles performed at a venue in my town. I worked as a ticket taker and usher at that venue. However, before the concert, I got a call from my cousin, who worked for a car rental agency at the airport, and at the same venue as me. She called me screaming into the phone for me to get my @$$ to the airport, because the limo driver for The Eagles had gotten sick, and since she was going to the concert venue anyway, she was going to be driving them to the concert!!! Needless to say, I got there as fast a possible and we drove them to the concert. What an experience. I was 16 years old. I saw things no 16 year old should see. What memories.
