Hi, please do the rest of this amazing suite! There are four parts of the "Concerto for a rainy day". The whole thing will surely blow you away. It is a very unique and inspiring work and you MUST listen to the end of it! It's something like 17 minutes long altogether as far as I remember.
Just came to say the same thing the entire thing is over 18 minutes long but well worth it.I'm aware of at least 2 other reactors that have done the entire thing in one video.
Ah, soooo good - don't stop the ELO trip ❤️ But "Summer and Lightning" belongs to this Concerto for a rainy day", too, you shouldn't have stopped there. It's one of my favourites, really, it's so uplifting 🙂
Welcome to the ELO World. Jeff Lynne is imo one of the greatest geniuses in pop rock music. You should check Rockaria or Mr. Blue Sky but the live versions in Wembley. Awesome. Their catalogue will surprise you.
You are right nobody is doing this music now these days music is manafactured not real and im glad both of ye young people are enjoying this great group keepit real ❤
Since Standing In The Rain is part of the Concerto For A Rainy Day I think that is a big part of why its so different. As one big suite, the Concerto is amazing and SITR fits in really well. Obviously Mr Blue Sky is the most well-known element of it. Id love to see you guys talk about Mr Bluesky as well. Love your reactions, keep up the good work!! :)
I was like 14 and living behind the iron curtain in Germany in the beginning of the eighties when I first got in touch with ELO's music and Jeff Lynne's aerial voice. It elicited so many emotions at first hearing, so special. On the wings of this music, I felt like being able to break free and fly over the wall that imprisoned us. And here I am, some 40 years later, and still a big fan of ELO because I can tell you one thing: emotions never grow old. 😊And though I love all of their music, I always melt when hearing Rain is Falling for the millionst time 😊
Great reaction guys! as i guess you know already, this is part 1 of a 4 song suite entitled 'Concerto for a rainy day.' The 4 songs should be played together to get the real vibe of what was originally conceived. 'Mr blue sky' is the final song that tops out this epic story (which as the title suggests, is about a rainy day!!)
The music genre you were looking for is Symphonic Rock. Once you've got the Concerto For A Rainy Day suite out of the way, check out "Tightrope" or "The Diary Of Horace Wimp". Good reaction.
This track seque’s into Big Wheels hence for the video it was clipped before rolling into BW. Listen to the whole of Concerto for a Rainy Day all in one sitting, it all fits together as one piece of music. Love your reaction BTW
You guys are spot on. ELO began as an experiment, and a very successful one. Each album has been experimental. Lynne always nail bitingly nervous and plain scared of how the public would perceive his next concept. Great work!!!
This is the first of 4 songs hence the immediate cut off, concerto for a rainy day is 19 mins long and flows beautifully into each other. Keep digging guys, there’s a huge rabbit hole you’re about to dive into.
Although ELO has amazing vocal arrangements, they did record some instrumentals worth checking out. One of them is "Fire On High" with a catchy rhythm guitar section, intense string and choral arrangements, and a chilling intro. The other is "The Whale" with a beautiful melody, awesome synthesizer and stereophonic effects...and with Whale dialogue in the mix, of course.
That was the intro to "Concerto for a Rainy Day" Like an opera, or play, or a "Concerto". The whole side is dedicated to a theme, Rain. That's why the vocal's wern't front and center, it was more of an instrumental, sort of, the intro. Every single track on that album is ear candy. :)
ELO did Some Slow Dance music too try "I need Her Love" ELO Has widely Varied music Some is So 50s Doo Wap. 70s Driving Rock n Roll to old Symphonic like Boy Blue or Poor Boy
I thought I would make another suggestion; in case you're interested in listening to a song from a different album, this song I am suggesting, is from their 1976 album called "A New World Record" and this marked the shift towards shorter pop songs "Jeff Lynne's ELO - Telephone Line (Live at Wembley Stadium)" this is one of their biggest hit songs. Nice reaction thanks for sharing, I subscribed👍🎶
The connecting 4 song suite tells a story, and weren't intended to be radio singles, except for the last song Mr. Blue Sky. Standin’ In The Rain captures the chaos of being caught in a rainstorm, thus the jarring time changes.
This really needs to be listened to as part of the suite. That's why the ending was abrupt. Written by Jeff Lynne after spending weeks looking out of the window at the incessant rain.
One of my favorite ELO songs though not one of their hits. Pure ELO. Let's go!! They opened with this song in the Kansas City concert I went to in 1978. Knocked everyone's socks off!
Love your reaction ❤️ being so young but youl need listen to it with headphones 🎧 on to capture everything they put into this ..been a fan for over 40years I have most ELO songs.. please please listen to rest of this album..also album called TIME.... X
Both of you are so likable and cute! I really like and enjoy in your musical expressions and the way how you experienced new music for you! I am a big fan of ABBA, but also of Electric Light Orchestra. Try ELO songs: ''Confusion''. ''Don't Walk Away'', ''Can't Get It Out Of My Head'', ''Sweet Talking Woman'', ''Don't Bring Me Down'', ''Living Thing''...
Whilst it can be said that "Standin' in the Rain" is the "weakest" of the 4 songs that make up "A Concerto for a Rainy Day" it can also be said that it is a fantastic way to provide an intro to the next 2 songs so you are prepared for the final song (Mr. Blue Sky) that wraps up the "Concerto" perfectly. Pure brilliance Mr. Lynne.
When you get around to _Rain Is Falling_ on Time (soon, I hope!), you should revisit Concerto For A Rainy Day for a comparison. Jeff is a master of weather music. He even did a song called _A Better Life (The Weatherman Knows)_ while in the Idle Race in 1969 or so, before joining the Move and inventing ELO. I don't know what I can do to persuade you to check out songs from that era, other than sayying you are missing out on some great music... But at least I guess I can look forward to seeing you react to _Ticket To The Moon_ and the rest of Time...
ELO tends to be pop rock more than say Pink Floyd (the most successful PROGRESSIVE rock band of all time). Both are also Art rock, psychedelic and progressive. Floyd’s more experimental and ultimately more diverse but ELO’s more pop sensibilities make them more radio friendly.
I think it is very reasonable to compare ELO (and Jeff Lynne) to both Pink Floyd and Queen, even if they are very different. Jeff's earliest music with the Idle Race, like _Imposters of Life's Magazine_ (and especialy its B-side _Sitting In My Tree_ ) are obviously from the psychedelic era (1967-68) and even have a Syd Barrett vibe to them, the "whimsicalness" of Barrett's songs on Piper At The Gates Of Dawn are very similar to the humourous, but also very dark songs Jeff wrote for the Birthday Party, the Idle Race's first album. That album is also where we first see some of Jeff's recurring symbolisms, for example the fairground rides: _Skeleton and the Roundabout_ - returning as _Big Wheels_ (ferris wheels) on OOTB. (Other symbolisms being "weather/rain", "spaceflight/rockets" and of course the colour blue, just to mention a few.) Jeff's (ELO's, I really see no reason to differentiate) albums often have a symphonic structure to them, Eldorado even has the subtitle "A Symphony By The Electric Light Orchestra", often with a, sometimes short, opening or ouverture, which is sometimes considered a part of the actual sectIon or song that it segues into, and sometimes is listed as its own track; instrumental bridges that tie adjacent songs together; and a coda or finale, that may recall some lines from the preceding parts. _Concerto For A Rainy Day_ is slightly odd in that it just makes up side 3 of the four side of the double album. Nevertheless, there _is_ a continuity, which is even made explicit by Tandy's vocoder words at the end of MBS: "please turn me over". Hearing the album on CD wothout a break to turn the LP, it seems obvious that _Sweet Is The Night_ proceeds with the story as it unfolds after the sunset. Also, the last instrumental part of MBS is more of a coda to the entire CFARD, and also to side 1 and 2, as it clearly includes for example a tiny but of the _Jungle_ sound and rythms. Queen's _Bohemian Rhapsody_ is similar in having clearly discernible parts which feel as scenes or chapters.
Hello Friends! I SEE You from The Beautiful land of Chile 🇨🇱, South América. I Love ABBA and ELO Try please to next song: Olivia Newton John & Electric Light Orchestra, "Xanadu". Video clip . You Will like it!!! Thanks You .Greeting and Friendship from Santiago.
You need to hear the whole of side 3 in one go.The entire thing is titled concerto for a rainy day and is made up of 4 songs, you just listened to the first song. The entire concerto is a story and you only got the first chapter there, there are 3 other chapters that need to be heard.Your female friend pointed out the transistions were jarring well stop listening to it and stopping it let the musical transistions take you SMOOTHLY to the next track.
