ELO is such a unique band with their own genre of music ,! As soon as you hear an ELO song, you know it is them !! They have so many songs for you to discover !!
Great band, another rabbit hole "Mr. Blue Sky" "Can't get it out of my head" "Turn to stone" "Evil woman" "Livin thing" and maybe a lesser known one "Calling America" and KISS is a great group to react to as well
Check out ELO's "Last Train to London",and "Its a living thing". ELO. Was so ahead of the times musically. They do some brilliant things with those stringed instruments. Jeff Lynne's voice gives me chills, and at the same time soothes my soul.
Isn’t it funny today when people first hear 70,s music the jaw drop because of how good it really was. Today with rap Taylor,Swift and the rest people think it was only disco. Really it was a great time for music then and I lived it in its glory. Thanks for bringing back the joy!!!!
On this song, Jeff Lynne recorded the telephone ringing on a transcontinental call for the special affects. He always does everything with mastery of sound.
I think you should do Don't Bring Me Down by ELO. It's an absolutely awesome song, and it will have you dancing. It was a very popular song back in the day in roller rinks. 😁😁
That’s cute that you love ELO …. I’m about to see them in all places Milwaukee in concert - ROAD TRIP with my 16 year old that looooves them. They are very unique. It’s great seeing a young man like you experiencing different music from the past. I was too young to enjoy it until I discovered them later on. I love ELO and I feel so privileged in their lifetime (and mine) that I get the opportunity to see them live in concert with my youngest daughter. I asked her what is your favourite ELO song and she said Tightrope … oh man you’re not joking that you like this band because that’s not necessarily a well known song by them. Perfect companion for this concert adventure. Btw I’m Australian not that that matters but we live in Canada - ROAD TRIP TO MILWAUKEE!!! You are such a lovely young man ❤ i apologise I realise I’m sounding like a mother - forgive me please. 😳😬🤪🤣🤣🤣🥰
Your stumbling onto a very deep and wide rabbit hole! Leader, Jeff Lynne is one of the greatest musician’s, Producers and Engineers in the business. Going way back to the Beetles. You reacted to Jeff with: While My Guitar Gentle Weeps w/ Prince; the Traveling Wilbury’s… ELO is a must and to see Live is magical!
Jeff Lynne was also in a Super Group called, The Traveling Wilburys. His bandmates included : Roy Orbison, George Harrison, Tom Petty, and Bob Dylan...yes, THAT Bob Dylan. Sadly, Dylan and Lynne are the only ones still with us.
One of the most popular bands of their era... Explore more of their music, you'll enjoy it the ride Ps... You'll get rhumatism if you keep clicking you fingers 😎
Oh ya, I remember back in the day, long distance calls went through the operator and she determined how many times it got to ring on the other end. E-L-O was am icon back in the day, easy listening rock, lights down low with your girl in your lap. I was 18 when that song came out. If we wanted to get our rock on, we'd kick up some Bob Segar, Deep Purple, Foghat, but you just couldn't beat chilling with E-L-O.
Oh, I love watching you react to truly great songs. If this is your first time listening to ELO, you are about to embark on a beautiful journey. Mr Blue Sky, Evil Woman, hard to choose my favourites.
I really enjoy seeing you love this song for all the same reasons I love it. This is my all time favorite group, and I am 57 years old. Jeff Lynn is a freaking genius. The Out Of The Blue album is a MUST OWN.
Jeff Lynne (who was born in my home City of Birmingham, UK) is a fantastic musician and producer. E.L.O. have loads of great songs, my favourite being 'All Over The World' which is such a happy song. They sound just as good (if not better) live than they do on the studio versions.
'Tightrope', (great orchestal production), 'MaMaMa Belle' (amazing guitar riff), 'Last Train To London' (super cool disco bassline), 'Turn To Stone', 'Living Thing', 'Evil Woman', 'So Fine', Sweet Talkin' Woman', 'Shangri-La'... the list goes on and on. You really wont be disappointed!
My oldest son broke me out of hospital twice to see ELO, once to see them in Hyde Park in 2014 and also to sit in a muddy field at Glastonbury in 2016. It was two different hospitals for two different injurie's at the end of my service career. It was always great to see Jeff Lynne's ELO live, even if it meant having to face my wife's anger afterwards. This song reminds me of how much I loved talking to my family when I was posted over seas.
SUPER GROUP!! Progressive Rock at its GENIUS level with Jeff Lynne and anything he touches is masterpiece..watch LIVE performances! My fave is “Do Ya” thanks from 🇨🇦
I forgot all about ELO, been decades since I listened to them! One of my favorites back then. Went to a concert where they were the headliners. Meatloaf opened for them, then Peter Frampton performed. They got launched from a spaceship on stage what a concert. Thank you for reacting to this, I now will dig out my old records grab a bottle of wine and go down memory lane for a few hours. Give a listen to Amy's suggestion below, another great song by them.👏🍷
ELO was one of the biggest hit makers of the mid-1970s through early 1980s. They’ve released songs you might recognize that are still played on the radio today and used in movies. Leader Jeff Lynne is a musical genius with a career that goes way beyond ELO. Also, their music has been widely sampled in hip hop and rap. As a newbie, the next hit to react to is the long version of Mr. Blue Sky that Baby Groot dances to in Guardians 2. Then there’s Evil Woman, Don’t Bring Me Down, Livin’ Thing, All Over The World, Turn To Stone, and so many more.
His voice perfectly aligns with the sorrow and desperation that is losing the one you can't live without... the song hits deep Can you imagine if you were going through it yourself you wouldn't make it to the bridge before you be broken into a million pieces good reaction you're one of my favorites you can tell when someone's Faking It and when someone's feeling it
I miss my Trimline phone I got after my first job at 16. I paid to have my own phone number and used to talk on it all night. This song always reminds me of that time……
"EVIL WOMAN", "SHOWDOWN", "MR. BLUE SKY", "ALL OVER THE WORLD", "SWEET TALKIN' WOMAN", "LAST TRAIN TO LONDON", "STRANGE MAGIC", "TURN TO STONE", "LIVIN' THING", "HOLD ON TIGHT", "DON'T BRING ME DOWN", and "CAN'T GET IT OUT OF MY HEAD" are but a few of E.L.O.'s many hits. Jeff Lynne is a Musical Genius, so this rabbit hole is deep!
I was just now thinking about all the things you said in your reaction, about liking background vocals and just different Arrangements of instruments and mixing it up and trying different things, making it diverse. And I don't know how familiar you are with the beatles, who by the way heavily influenced Jeff Lynne of Elo in fact he worked with Paul McCartney on some stuff after the Beatles broke up, but that is the perfect band for you, it's a decade earlier in the 1960s and they changed from really simple live four-piece band driving stuff in the early 60s to being so Innovative and that's why they became iconic. Every song is different. Especially as you get into the middle and later. They broke up around 1970 so they had about a decade of stuff. And then they all had interesting solo careers after that. But I know you would just love them. And they have such a huge catalog and they're all different! If you don't like one try another one. It's just down the rabbit hole for sure. But they absolutely have all the qualities you were mentioning and there's a reason why they were such a huge name. I have seen a lot of Beatles reactions and I can tell that for whatever reasons, they very often get blocked. And I know it can be frustrating. But on the other hand I've seen a ton of them. And then some reactors even without all that many followers managed to just do reaction after reaction without it ever being blocked. So who knows. I just know you'd love it. Pardon me if I'm preaching to the choir and you're already super familiar with them. And again, I probably should have looked to see if there was a playlist, I came to this by your playlist for this band ironically. So oh wait a minute I did see, it seems like you had maybe two Beatles songs? Or one Beatles song and a feature or something. But anyway I was going to say you should also really really check out Elvis presley. His early stuff is great from the mid 50s when he's very very young and it's so old and he has three four piece with a vocal backing group called The Jordan airs which were fantastic and they are in so many recordings from back then and part of live performances but Elvis loved them and used them a lot. But later when you get into the around 1970 or so, he's got this huge huge band with two different vocal choirs and he arranges everything and he manages all this and they practice their asses off and then he does these live shows like at Vegas and it's got everything, tons of amazing backing vocals and so many instruments and it all just worked so well together because he was a brilliant arranger.
My first concert in 1978,Anaheim stadium, Journey (with a brand new Steve Perry) was one of the opening acts. A cloud of pot smoke, a flying spaceship, my favorite band still. I have worked as a stagehand for 25 years and have yet to work for Mr Lynne. Go back to the beginning, very unique sound and story telling. My name is Bicycle Bob and I approved this message.
Yes, a big rabbit hole your got yourself into. ELO is a genius of orchestrating. Sounds you’ve never heard together, headphones definitely necessary. Loved your reaction, the smile was a sure sign of the pleasure your hearing. My favorite song is “Mr. Blue Sky”. Give it a listen🎶🎶💕💕🦋
Fantastic reaction 👌. This is my all time favourite group. I saw them at Wembley arena in 1978 Absolutely brilliant then. Absolutely brilliant now. Jeff Lynn was in another group called TRAVELLING WILBURY'S You should check them out .
ELO is one of my favorite bands of the 70's. They were SO good and Jeff Lynne was such a creative perfectionist. He put out some great music through the 70's and well into the 80's. This is one of my favorites, but honestly, they had a TON of great songs that I still love to this day.
Jeff Lynne - lead vocals, guitars, percussion, electric piano Bev Bevan - drums, percussion, backing vocals Richard Tandy - keyboards and synthesizers, guitar, percussion, backing vocals Kelly Groucutt - bass guitar, percussion, backing vocals, lead vocals Mik Kaminski - violin Hugh McDowell - cello, percussion Melvyn Gale - cello They are all part of the group..
So glad you decided to highlight this group, These guys will blow your mind!!!! The instruments / orchestra are the best!! I fell in love with them in 70's...and it's never ended!!! Keep going down the rabbit hole!!! " EVIL WOMAN" is a good one of theirs... And many many others!!!
I keep telling you damn kids we baby boomers grew up to the greatest music, during the greatest years of music production in the history of the world, 1955-1980!! I was borned on July 1st 1956.
ELO did so many amazing tunes in the 70s and you have some great suggestions for your next reaction. I would add 'Across The Border' and 'Tightrope' to that list, Jeff Lynne's a genius.
My favorite of all time! Jeff Lynne is a genius! Sweet Talking Woman- Hold on Tight- Don’t Bring Me Down- Literally anything by them! I’ve been waiting for you to discover them!!!
Now when you hear that song, it was back in the Analog Era. No Auto-Tune to get your vocals on-pitch. Want 8 harmony parts singing together? You're gonna have to perform it yourself, on-pitch, 8 times to get it on tape. That's not an effect added to create the sound of many-voices together, Jeff Lynne actually had to sing each part multiple times, then sing each harmony part multiple times. The dense sound of the voices & orchestra instruments were the pixie dust that got sprinkled on ELO's songs.
in addition to all the other great ELO songs mentioned by everyone else-Cant Get It Out Of My Head, Strange Magic and, a great instrumental-Fire On High
There are a lot of good songs from this album. Please check out Tightrope, So Fine, Do Ya and Livin' Thing. They all incorporate rock with orchestra and are smooth...
When you mentioned that you like songs with unusual choices of instruments, it made me think of "For Your Love" by The Yardbirds. It has harpsichord in it. Check it out.
A great reaction Sir. There is a superb live version of this in front of 60,000+ at Wemley Stadium, London as recent as 2017 with Jeff Lynne in his 70s. "Tightrope" by E.L.O. is a must... Heck, what am I saying, all E.L.O. production's are a must👍😊
