One of his best lyrics (or actually Bernie Taupin's lyrics) is in this song: "The threats you made were meant to cut me down; and if our love was just a circus, you'd be a clown by now!"

Listening to Elton is different than watching him. You see him shredding the piano hard and use his voice and facial expressions to get the crowd going. I had the opportunity twice to see him in Vegas and he's just so badass 🤙🤙

Though he's mainly known as a balladeer, Elton has some great rockers/uptempo numbers. "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting", "Bennie and the Jets", and "The Bitch is Back" are three of the best-known ones. One huge hit that no one has reacted to (that I can find, anyway) is "I Don't Wanna Go On with You Like That", his 1988 dance hit.

I never really heard this song until I watched the movie Sing with the kids and had to go listen to the original version... with that being said I think coming out at time he did about his sexuality that wasn't as understandable in society as it is today with the LGBTQ community just makes the lyrics to this song empowering..."I'm still standing"

"Funeral For A Friend / Love Lies Bleeding" is another Elton John masterpiece. It's one (two part) song and the album opener. A different song than others. Eltons Bohemian Rhapsody if you want.

High School freshman into sophomore year summer - this was the song that 12 of us crushing, rejected and brokenhearted teenage girls learned by heart and we - angry and having no sense, shame or fucks to give - belted it out in our school yard on the first Friday of the school year (senior day) while holding pictures of our crushes. No, we never got our guys, but dammit we had harmony and confidence for the rest of the year.

Elton John’s “Candle in the Wind” is one that’s not up-tempo and has strong lyrical meaning that you would appreciate. Definitely worth a listen. He is super talented and diverse.
@Michellejosph
@Michellejosph 2 года назад
there is two different versions of the candle in the wind the only thing is he has only performed the second version live once and only put it on one album with one other song and he has always refused to play that second version ever agian unless the family of the person he re wrote the whole song for asks him to

Please listen to "Candle in the Win" (both versions). It is one of the saddest most beautiful songs in his catalog. He wrote the first version about Marilyn Monroe and then reworte the lyrics when Princess Diana was killed and played them at her funeral.

The song is fairly autobiographical. Elton was huge in the 70s, but his career more or less crashed and burned. No one thought he would be back...with he did make a big comeback. The song is his anthem.

I wouldn't call it another type of Rock'n Roll. I would just call it Elton. He is just one of those rare pieces of talent. He started in the '60s, got his identity in the '70s, busted into the '80s, and 60 years later he still doing his thing. Legend.

Pop Rock with elements of hard rock. A lot of music of this time combines genres. Much of Pop Rock was such absolute pap, it was easy to dismiss as a genre. But at the same time, there was a lot of musical genius around who used whatever genre they felt enhanced their sound. It was a time when Genesis, Elton John, The Allman Brothers, Led Zeppelin, and Steely Dan were all popular and on the airwaves at the same time as Neil Sedaka and Captain and Tennile.

If you haven't listened to much Elton John, there is a TON to choose from. He's done rock, pop, glam, disco, funk, folk, country and now hip hop and dance remixes. He's great as a balladeer too, and even did a duet with the opera singer Luciano Pavarotti called Live Like Horses, which has some really uplifting lyrics by his long-time songwriting partner Bernie Taupin. I highly recommend either of these versions: Live with Pavarotti (lyrics are partially in Italian) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1-WYnki9kWk.html Live Solo Elton John (lyrics in English) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rpO1-kA4kAc.html I just subscribed and am liking what I've seen so far🙏🙏

Love the reactions, you have a very insightful view to new music. Having said that I am seeing a bunch of Live performances, this included, this is not what we heard when this stuff came out, this is not the song we fell in love with. I feel that Live performances cheat Reactors from the versions that shaped history. Yes some performances are great and better than the original, but they are not the songs that shaped you history and I feel you do yourself a disservice to not be on a level playing field in regards to music versions. Lyric, Radio or Album versions are the best. Live versions have to much artistic variances that can change the entire mood of the song depending for instance, how high and drunk Elton was that night, opposed to the polished version from the studio we all fell in love with. But that's just my opinion man. Much Love
