I did, I was 27 and loved it from the very beginning. Very catchy tune, as well. Bear in mind, I´m not from an english speaking country, so we hade to sit with the CD and stop it after every sentence and check out the words and expressions that we didn´t understand immediately. That is how all we non english speakers (by birth) dived into texts back then. Great times :)
The best line in this song is “I laid awake and strapped myself in bed with a bullet proof vest on and shoot myself in the head.” It just completely sums up how fucking nuts he was and perfectly incapsulates the chaotic energy that this song gives off. Also it’s just incredible writing.
100% agree. Ever since the first time I heard it, that one line stuck with me. Delivered almost like it's a throw away line, but then it comes full circle. Like some kind of symmetry in the syllables. Then the contrast with the meaning. It's beautiful like a joke with a great unexpected turn at the end.
whole 3rd verse is absolute bars but personally my favorite is “i’m not ready to leave it’s too scary to die i’ll have to be carried inside the cemetery and buried alive”
GOAT Eminem moment for me was the kamikaze ad he ran in publications that gave it negative reviews. “#1 in 103 countries…thanks for the support, assholes”. I appreciate it so much both for the throw back to this song and the sheer pettiness.
@Rheumattica You just proved me right LMFAO you're a fukn cry baby. And it does, just like he said idiot, and he listens obviously is what I meant because 99% of people who told people to listen to this song, said to react to this version. So... Suck it
@Rheumattica Remember, tip to grip, only the string should hang out when using your tampon. And also, I can say the same thing to you lol Like your opinion matters right now? Exactly, go ahead and reply, if you want my "Comeback" just wipe it from your pa's chin. #Muted
It's the raping lesbians line that got this version banned they remixed it to "Extraterrestrial, running over pedestrians in a space ship While they screamin' at me "Let's just be friends!" Even on the explicit versions released after the first run of the album
To give you the backdrop, at this time Will Smith's song Miami was on the charts along with Juvenile's Back that Ass Up, Jay Z's Hard Knock Life, Ice Cube's You Can Do It. If Hip Hop were a pool party, Eminem is the guy that shows up and yells, "Cannonball!" And splashes everyone. LOL
@@Riverpresley22 in the song he says "i told her ill grow up to become a famous rapper, make a record about doing drugs and name it after her" cleaning out my closet and marshall mathers aren't named after his mother.
@Rheumattica To who? People that don't like lyricism? I just noticed you cried on my comment too lol all that crying and being mean to me for no reason at all lol just because you're pathetic and on your period, doesn't mean you should come online and take it out on everyone. "They say music can alter moods and talk to you, but can it load a gun up for you and cock it too? Well if it can and the next time you assault a dude, just tell the judge it was my fault and I'll get sued" we all have opinions, but bad song? lol
This is the song that introduced the world to Eminem, EVERYONE my age (40) was freaking out over this lil white kid that Dre signed!!!!! U should do an Eminem week, 3 a day for a week….u wouldn’t regret it!!!! 🔥 🐐 NOBODY is safe if Em ever puts u in a song 😂
I remember the first time seeing this music video on MTV! Also, he was always a party when he was on TRL. (I'm showing my age. 😂) Leaving Heaven! Em addresses his father more than he ever has in his entire career, combined, on one song.
Eminem dusn't like Shim Shady but the industry and a lot of fans only whant Slim Shady. So he had to do that because he did get only one opportunity. He refers he dusn't like Slim Shady in a lot of songs and even did that back in the day. One thing is sure and that is that Shady is hilarious and there is almost nothing he won't say.
Shows I'm just getting old. The idea that its anyone's "first time" hearing this is almost unbelievable because everyone alive at the time heard this song. Guess I'm now just realizing how many people now actually weren't alive when this was released... ugh.
This reaction is the reason Eminem gained international acclaim lol. Those of us who listened to this as kids and young adults were literally shocked into laughter because we had never heard anyone who just didn’t give a FUCK like em
I saw the debut of this song on MTV AFTER DARK or whatever it was maybe BET, looked at my cuz and said THIS DUDE IS GUNNA B A STAR and he out of all emcees WAS THE VOICE OF MY HOLE GENERATION
Since we on the funnies u gotta do guilty conscience uncensored version u gotta do as the world turns and brain damage no double entendres just super funny great rapping lol
6:21-The funniest thing about this line is this the first song Slim made knowin Dre, and he’s insulting Dre in the song. “Dr Dre, dont just stand there (you lazy son of a btch) Operate.”
Finally best reaction yet. I guess you need to go review the whole Slim Shady LP. Tried to react to Low, Down, And Dirty by Eminem. Is Slim Shady first appearance.
After the Beastie Boys, it was a long time before a white dude got my attention. Marshall was it. His sht is fire from day one. Keep in mind I'm old school. Grandmaster Flash was my sht when it dropped, and I heard Sugar Hill Gang way back too. Can't forget Big Daddy Kane. Have a great day.
You have to listen to the whole album, which is the first one. This is the album where the blamed him and Marilyn Manson for the Columbine Massacre, which he mentioned in the second album, with songs, such as The Way I am and Never Knew. The first album is 🔥.
This is different from the original dirty version that's actually on the album. In the original, he says "my English teacher wanted to flunk me in junior high, thanks a lot, next semester 35".
The other version does flow a bit better , I guess it’s partially edited. He says my English teacher wanted to flunk me in junior high, thanks a lot next semester I’ll be 35.
Normally I don't mind pausing but the constant rewinding 2 seconds is really annoying and doesn't seem to help catch any lines just reply ones you already heard and understood. Not everyone minds it it just bugs me personally
I'm 50, same as Eminem, now you see why my generation see these days as oversensitive. I part of it is that it's new to you, but they played Eminem on MTV all day. Have you listened to The real Slim Shady? He performed that at the MTV music awards with all the people he talks about-faces in the audience.
