You should read up on this album, “Rumors,” and everything surrounding the band at the time of its creation. Wild and salacious stories. The lead guitarist, Lindsey Buckingham, was known for his unusual tones and signature picking style of playing guitar. He was able to create those airy, dreamy sounds you’re hearing. His style is unparalleled and incredibly hard to recreate - the current iteration of the bands uses 3 different guitarists to recreate what Lindsey was able to do. Fleetwood Mac has a DEEP discography, full of bangers. All 5 members (of the most famous lineup of the band) were incredibly talented rock gods in their own right. But Stevie Nicks (the female lead singer here)...My goodness, Stevie. What a babe. Her voice, her talent, her look, her persona. Just so alluring and enchanting. She has long been rumored to be a witch because of her outfits, lyrics, demeanor, etc. Only makes her more attractive to me.

He gets some of that sound because he finger picks it. If you listen close you are missing the effect of pick. Not many do it.

That guitar sound is called a volume swell. You pluck the string with the volume knob turned down and then gradually turn it up. I guess it’s imitating techniques used for steel guitars and organs. It gives the guitar a soft attack more like a violin. Very simple low tech, but making it sound musical takes practice.

He is using a volume pedal. That is the main effect. He is bending notes as he applies the volume pedal. David Gilmour from Pink Floyd does this all the time.

There's a REASON why Mic Fleetwood, the drummer of Fleetwood Mac as well a few other's, that are considered the greatest drummers of all-time, of any music genre. I doubt very many people of this generation know why, without having to look it up. And the reason why these few drummers are considered the greatest of all time of any music genre? It is simply -- consistent timing. And there are a few others that are in his league, compared to everyone else that are not. They are "The Cream of the Crop" of all the drummers of any music genre. They are: Stuart Copeland of the band, The Police. Alex Van Halen of the band, Van Halen. John Paul Densmore of the band, The Doors. The late John Bonham of the band, Led Zeppelin, and John's son, Jason Bonham. There are no other drummers of any music genre, that have the kind of consistent timing, that these drummers have. 😎

OMG! You never heard of Fleetwood Mac! They got back together to play at Bill Clinton's presidental acceptance speech. 😂🤣😂 I decided at 16 I was going to name my daughter after their song Rhiannon. And did when she was born 9 years later in 1984. Of course their studio stuff sounds better than live since they were stoned during a lot of their performances back in the day. 🙄 Still... they were awesome.

Fleetwood Mac, one of the greatest rock bands. Their album “Rumour” is a must have. By the way, since you love what sounds can b made with a guitar, check out Bread’s song “If.” The sound is outer worldly!

It doesn’t sound like it’s a guitar because of the volume pedal. It basically looks like a car pedal. As you play it it allows you to control the volume. So when it’s fully in the untouched position there is no volume. As you press it down (like hitting the gas) it adds volume. So what he’s doing is a “swell”… he’s playing the note with the sound off or very low, and at the same time pressing down on the pedal so that it fades in, or swells. It makes it sound more like a violin in a way. You can’t see his feet but that’s how it’s happening.

Lindsay Buckingham is the guitarist. He is considered a brilliant guitarist. Due to conflicts within the band, Lindsay has had breaks from playing with them. They had to replace him with TWO guitarists. He is that good.

Fleetwood Mac was originally a blues band with guitarist/singer Peter Green (RIP). Same bassist and drummer as here. Totally different sound than this. Check out their early history.
