Hi guys. Stevie wrote and sang this song in response to her partner's (Lindsey Buckingham) song "Go your own way" when they were splitting up as a couple. The whole album featured songs relating to the various problems within the group. It is still one of the best albums ever made by any group.
There were three singers in the classic Fleetwood Mac lineup. In addition to Stevie there was Christine McVie (keyboard player) and Lindsey Buckingham (guitar player - ranked in the Top 100 of all time, btw). Stevie has the MAGICAL voice but the other two are very very good. Check out Go Your Own Way to hear Lindsey and You Make Loving Fun to hear Christine.
I think Christine's voice is very underrated since Stevie gets most of the attention. There are several songs where Christine takes the lead that are excellent.
When Fleetwood Mac first came out I remember there were rumors that Stevie was a white witch. The first time I saw them perform, I believed it because you could not look away from her. She was mesmerizing.
So you've fallen under the spell of the vocals of Stevie Nicks. So many have.😁 If you ever listen to "Sara"(original studio version from "Tusk"), be prepared to again make your way through that soothing, mesmerizing labyrinth that is Stevie.
You're in my top 5 reactionist. You're both so sweet, well spoken (great vocabulary) kind hearted and total rock and roll folks. You know good music regardless of genre, but I think you're definitely rockers who appreciate the diversity and depth of some rock music. Lovely to watch your surprised faces when listening to a banger or discovering a new band. Musical empaths
@@Guitardudeftw probably isnt a decade that was packed with more classic films than the 70s. So many great directors made landmark films during that decade.
Stevie is usually the lead singer, but there are a few hits where either Lindsey Buckingham or Christine McVie sing. A shame nobody ever reacts to Christine's songs such as: You Make Loving Fun, Don't Stop, and Songbird. She also had a couple of solo hits: Got a Hold on Me, and Love Will Show Us How.
@@irishgrl that's interesting since McVie wrote and sang lead on more Top 40 FM hits than both of her singing-songwriting bandmates combined: nine for McVie, compared to five for Nicks and three for Buckingham. Not to mention she wrote 8 out of the 16 songs that made it onto their greatest hits album.
@@beterbutz i think nicks has a more interesting voice, more personality and feel to it. but mcvie has a far superior voice technically, in terms of range, clarity, the usual metrics people would judge a vocalists ability by. christine mcvie is a truly great singer. songbird is the vocal highlight of the rumours album.
You guys should watch a documentary on the making of this record, Rumors. It will open your eyes to what fueled all of their creativity for this legendary record. All the songs were interpersonal between the members. Two couples going through two breakups, and Mick Fleetwood, the drummer. Songs being sung about each other.
This was on the biggest selling album of all time at the time. I was about 19 or 20 when it was released. Yes, I find that time between 78-80 to be a transition period in pop rock. Them, cheap trick, supertramp. I remember being enthralled.
You should watch the live music video of this song. The fact that Stevie Nicks and the Guitarist we're dating, broke up and still did this song together. It kinda adds in a dynamic of Stevie and the guitar is going back and forth, like they are talking almost.
From the same album: “Go Your Own Way”, “Don’t Stop”, “You Make Lovin’ Fun” and “Songbird” are all incredible. The two couples in this band were breaking up while this album was being written.
This could be a huge rabbit hole for you! They are very talented band. Once again showing you that everything most amazing came out in the 70s! (Some time watch Stevie Nicks et al, performing live, especially when she was younger. A real treat)
Check Lindsey's live performance of "big love" ... Talent overload. Can't miss with anything Fleetwood Mac did. Demo of "sister of the moon" traps me Everytime too
Fleetwood Mac are a British-American rock band, formed in London in 1967. Their album "Rumours" (1977) has sold over 40 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling albums in history. All the songs on it are great. "Go Your Own Way", "Dreams", "Don't Stop", "You Make Loving Fun". "Second Hand News", "Gold Dust Woman" & "The Chain". Other great songs from other albums are "Over My Head", "Say You Love Me", "Rhiannon", "Landslide", "Tusk", "Think About Me", "Sara", "Hold Me", "Love In Store", "Gypsy", "Oh Diane" etc.
That's just with Buckingham and Nick's, they also had many great songs with Peter Green and Bob Welsh. Like Black magic woman, green manalishi which Carlos Santana and Judas priest did covers of. And not to mention all the Christine McVie fronted songs.
And just imagine, the person she's singing about is dueting with her. XD Fleetwood Mac was the Soap Opera rock band for many years. I definitely recommend seeing the full documentary on them. If I can remember correctly, the Rumors album was done completely with each band member in a separate room, cause they couldn't stand each other's presences. The song The Chain is representing what brought them altogether to begin with: their love of music and all of their hard work finally making it big. They all write and sing that one!
Stevie Nicks the lead singer from '75 has a whole solo catalogue of songs she has been a prolific writer. To really appreciate her singer, performer, writing talent a request for reaction to Sisters of the moon Fleetwood Mac live Mirage Tour 1982. Just watch the Rock Goddess perform this song like nothing before or since, fire 😊😲❤
Good reaction. It is Stevie Nicks singing on this one. On cover of the Rumours album is Mick Fleetwood (Drummer) and Stevie Nicks. The band is named after Mick Fleetwood and John McVie (bassist) Fleetwood Mac had 3 lead singers, Lindsay Buckingham (guitar), Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie (Keyboards). Each wrote their own songs and they usually split the number of songs between them on each album. the song "The Chain" was mostly Buckingham, but all 3 sung on it and was co-written by the entire band. Others you can do is "Go Your Own Way" (Buckingham), "Don't Stop" (McVie) and "Rhiannon" (Nicks) If you do "Rhiannon" do the version from the Midnight Special, it is killer. Thanks and God Bless Oh, and P.S. there is a huge rabbit hole of hits with them as well.
There were two couples in the band at the time going through break ups while making this album. I mean the members of each couple were all in this band. And they all wrote songs about each other and their relationships. And when they sing harmony vocals it's three of them around one mic, singing songs about their own breakup written by the person standing next to them. And it's the best album of this lineup. Just amazing stuff.
FM was my gramps’s favorite band and this was one of his go to songs. wish i could’ve taken him to a concert or gone with him to one. miss you gramps! ❤️❤️
Can't say enough good about her. Huge fan, also as a solo artist in the 80s. Believe she's still performing. Have u reacted to RHIANNON? Best version is live in 76 on Midnight Special. She was on fire!!! Spectacular performance.
This album is all relationship therapy that addressed the inner turmoil between bandmates. Stevie and the male lead vocal Lindsey Buckingham were IRL couple as well as bandmates, but they had a falling out. This album literally is about their rocky relationship - but done with so much class that they remained a band and played it all together - and went on to be their best album by far.
I saw Fleetwood Mac along with Loggins and Messina, and The Eagles in Tampa Bay Stadium on July 4th, 1976. It was an amazing Bicentennial concert. It happened to also be the day my divorce from my first husband became final. A day of celebrations, the music was devine, fireworks galore, the Eagles lit up a giant Eagle behind the stage at the end, it was also the first concert tour with Joe Walsh. What a day that was, a real stand out in 68 years of memories. Unfortunately, Fleetwood Mac hadn't released the Rumors album yet, still a truly wonderful day of music. This song is a standout, on a standout album.
Asia&BJ, Their "You Make Loving Fun", "Go Your Own Way" and "Silver Spring" are next for you!! "Silver Spings" is best live from their 1996 concert 'The Dance'. The tension between Stevie and Lindsey is palpable!
Fleetwood Mac had three songwriters and whoever wrote the song, sung the song. Hence, they had three lead singers. Lindsay Buckingham, Christine Mc Vie and Stevie Nicks.
Never get tired of this beautiful song. One of the greatest singers ever was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame twice once with Fleetwood Mac other by herself.
The layering in this track is off the chain! Stevie and Christine's voices, along with Lindsey haunt the background and make this song even more amazing. Asia, you are so on it.. Stevie's voice is completely captivating and does pull you along. The Rumors album is written from the break up of Stevie Nick's and Lindsey Buckingham, songs of heartbreak and flat out "I am over it "!!
Love it. Back to junior high for me, love you for taking me way back. Stevie is a great song writer and Lindsay is a great producer. With Chris on keyboards and back up vocals, Lindsay on guitar and back up vocal, John and Mic on rhythms; heavenly, a great band.
"As long as you follow" is a great one that the other female singer did and no other has ever done a reaction to...EVERYBODY SLEEPIN ON SUCH GREATNESS lol.. 4real. You won't be disappointed I promise you!
Christine McVie has lots of songs w/ Fleetwood Mac and has been the band since it was formed in the 1960s. Try " Oh Daddy" and " Songbird" really showcases her vocals. Beautiful pipes
This song had a big comeback a year or two ago.. the dude drinking his cranberry juice out the bottle riding a skateboard and feeling that cool vibe... ✌
great reaction! if you wanna hear one of their songs where Lindsey is the lead singer, react to Never Going Back Again. It’s an amazing song and nobody reacts to it!
I grew up with this stuff and always enjoyed it. But I have to say this type of music only gets better with age. The way this song hits me now is quite profound, like I'm listening to it for the first time. I'm with Asia, it does sound mesmerizing. Such an immersive song. And those guitar harmonics make you feel like you've been sucked into someone's dreamworld. Great reaction as always.
This is one of my top 5 favorite songs of all time. IMHO the top four FM songs are DREAMS, THE CHAIN, RIHANNNON, and LANDLSIDE, I would also add the other woman in this band also has a beautiful voice, her name is Christene McVie. My favorite of hers is SONGBIRD. To check out Stevies boyfriend Lindsey Buckingham, check out the live version of GO YOUR OWN WAY, from the 1997 dance tour....it is fire!!! and remember players always love you when they play you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is truly one of the albums with all good songs, some hits and some just good music. Do yourselves a favor n listen to the whole album strait threw side A and B. For a musical experiance like no other.
There's a lot of history with Fleetwood Mac. They were already skilled musicians when they formed the band. In the era of Disco, Fleetwood Mac topped the Pop Rock charts. For a little moment in the 70s they were the number one band in the world.
