If you watch the live version of The Chain from 1982 (and Silver Springs from The Dance concert film) you can see Lindsey and Stevie expressing all that pain right up there on stage. It's amazing how they can turn those emotions on and off in the service of their art.

That is what she needs to review. Awe is all I have for this band. I can’t imagine going through a painful break up as they were then continuing to work together, write about it, make an album, and tour it. Really?

@caps689
@caps689 8 дней назад
Stevie Nicks said the opening lines "Now here you go again/ you want your freedom/ who am I to keep you down" were written from Lindsey Buckingham's POV. Stevie wanted her freedom. The cover is Mick Fleetwood (drummer & co founder of the band) not Buckingham.

This is one of the best selling Rock LPs of all time. It is simply a masterpiece from the first to last song: a concept musicians today can't even fathom. I was around 11 when this came out and trust me it had a LOT of stiff competition and yet still became a top selling album. For music, the 70s were the best. The story behind this LP is that band members who were in relationships with each other were having fall outs and the tension found itself into the music. The LP's 2nd side is masterful.

Yes, Fleetwood is sporting two wooden, dangling balls, and no, the crass allusion is not lost on us. However, those balls are actually pieces of “lavatory chains” that Fleetwood ripped from a toilet earlier in his career. “In truth, I started off as a blues player. The whole ethic of a lot of blues music is slightly suggestive, might I say. And suitably, I walked out on stage with these two lavatory chains with these wooden balls hanging down, and after that, it just stuck,” Fleetwood said. The wooden balls became a perverse good luck token of sorts for Fleetwood, and they became a constant companion to his drum kit in subsequent performances.

The Chain (the studio version for first experience) is a BANGER with imo the best bass line ever. John and Mick aren't the absolute best at their individual instruments, but are widely considered one of the very best rhythm sections in the business among musicians. Love your comments on these songs. I saw Fleetwood Mac live in August 1975 at the Oakland Coliseum Stadium. Robin Trower was the headliner, Then Dave Mason, Peter Frampton and then Fleetood Mac and Gary Dream Weaver Wright. What a super lineup. The concert was called The British Are Coming, or The British Invasion. Day On The Green put on my the great late Bill Graham. Wow. Saw the Mighty Led Zeppelin on A Day On The Green in July 77.. And in 1974 June I saw Crosby Stills Nash & Young on A Day On The Green, with The Band, Joe Walsh & Barnstorm and Jesse Colin Young. Another Gem! The 1970s Rocked big time.

One of my favourite albums of all time. FYI, the dude on the cover is the drummer Mick Fleetwood, and was not the one in a relationship with Stevie - that would have been Lindsay Buckingham. Pre Fleetwood Mac, (or before they joined the band), they had their own gig called Buckingham Nicks. They weren't the only breakup within the band - John and Christine McVie were also having issues. I could go on, but there are literally hours and hours of documentaries re FM, so if you're interested, I'd go that route. 😎☘️

This is such a unique song... it's happy, but at the same time it's sad... so many influences in this whole album... the cool thing about them at this time, is they were all song writers.. but they had no ego on this album.. they would write a song, and put it on the table, and let everyone offer their own sounds to it. That's how it was on every song on this album. Each song had its own writer, but every song had everyone's influence... very cool. 😎

Had Rumors and the Buckingham Nicks album - analyze that album cover, still think of it whenever they are mentioned. You can see it's intense. Actually saw the Peter Green setup at a festival in SW New York in the 60s but didn't know who they were. My friend who was a drummer talked me into driving there mostly because Ginger Baker was playing with Fili Kuti. I definitely knew about Baker. Have some photos from then.

Fleetwood Mac started with a different line up in the 60s. Albatross was an instrumental released in November 1968. The piece was composed by Peter Green. R.I.P. Peter Allen Greenbaum (29 October 1946 - 25 July 2020),[1][2] known professionally as Peter Green, was an English blues rock singer-songwriter and guitarist. As the founder of Fleetwood Mac. Mick Fleetwood drummer and John Graham McVie (born 26 November 1945) a British bass guitarist. He is best known as a member of the rock bands John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers from 1964 to 1967 and Fleetwood Mac since 1967. His surname, combined with that of drummer Mick Fleetwood, was the source for the band's name.

The era that this album was released in was so packed with amazing bands and music that the competition was fierce. AC/DC, “Let there be Rock”, David Bowie, “Low”, Eric Clapton, “Slowhand,” The Clash, self titled debut album, “The Clash,” Elvis Costello, “My Aim is True”, Electric Light Orchestra, Foreigner, Peter Gabriel going solo after splitting from Genesis…. There was so much great music exploding onto the scene at that point it was amazing. And that’s just 1977. People get excited about the over-programmed, auto-tuned, synthesized music that is released now but they don’t understand what they’re missing.
