From that same generation,Dean Martin has the same kind of smooth mesmerizing voice that amazes you without having to do any vocal gymnastics. They were both class acts and they were very close friends
Saw him in concert at Madison Square Garden, it was called the Main Event. He was introduced by Howard Cosell....he climbed through the ropes just like a boxer for a heavy weight fight. He ended the concert with “My Way”...there were a lot of big stars there that night but when he hit that last note everyone was on their feet screaming....the little folks like me...and the big stars like Robert Redford...the DVD of the concert is around....do yourself a favor...watch it!!!
Frank's song New York has been sampled many times by many artists. You'll definitely recognize it. You almost can't go wrong with Frank's entire catalog. Although personal favorites are Just The Way You Look Tonight, Fly Me To The Moon and The Girl From Ipanema.
When I hear that I can only think of the Simpsons parody where Homer sang, “When I was 17, I had my very first beer, a very good beer, that I bought with a fake ID.”
Full body rushes !! I could see how much you liked Mr. Sinatra. It is so great for you and I remembered how much I loved him Thank you for both!! Keep it up!!
When singer Paul Anka was on vaccation or maybe some gig at the French Riviera he heard a guy playing this song in a hotel lobby. He immediately fell in love with the song and asked the guy right away if he could by it! According to himself he bought it with Sinatra in mind since he was fed up with the business and was thinking of quitting. This song became Sinatra's like anthem a song he finished every concert with. Paul Anka said in an interview that he knew this song would pay for his children's college!!
My mother and aunt adored Frank Sinatra. They couldn't hear enough. Used to drive me crazy. This was a good memory. Come Fly With Me, I'd say is one of his best.
While Frank is really super good, Dean Martin has my heart as the best crooner. I watched all the movies and heard all the songs of both. Amazing talent you cannot find these days.
Frank was also a natural as an actor. His very first roll in “From Here to Eternity” won him an Oscar and a Golden Globe Award for best supporting actor. There are so many great songs he did it’s hard to list them.
This was recorded toward the end of his career and his wonderful clear voice was getting a bit ragged, but it sure suited the lyrics. For me his '50s stuff is the best especially his Wee Small Hours album. His second best period is his Big Band years.
That movie has an unintentionally funny scene for speakers of Portuguese. Frank's character gets happy because it's payday and he has money to spend. So he goes: "Payday! Payday!" That sounds almost identical to "peidei" in Portuguese, which means "I have farted." Now you can imagine the audiences bursting into laughter with a man happily shouting "I have farted! I have farted!" 🤣🤣🤣
Elvis also did a version of this. People always say, “Yeah, but who did it better.”. Who did it better. A very tough question. They both made it their own.. I cannot choose, as most people cannot. You need to hear Elvis sing this and see what we mean. Great reaction. Take care.
I love all types of music...I’m 67 yrs old, grew up with 60’s, 70’s music but if it sounds good to me, I’ll listen to it but it’s so refreshing to hear someone listen to Sinatra, Righteous Brothers, Cab Calloway, etc! Thanks so much for playing it all! Good to know that music isn’t lost in time.
He was 1 of those rare few in a generation that shine as bright as the sun. This song is about what it is to be a man. Never will we see his like again.
Frank is an absolute legend. I grew up listening to him because he is my father's favorite singer and I appreciate his music more and more as I get older. I think Italian babies in the womb know who Frank is cuz we are pretty proud of our boy. ;) I'm really enjoying your channel. You bring a lot of thoughtfulness and vulnerability to your reactions.
Although this became his signature song, his daughters say that he always felt that it made him sound too egotistical, and that he wasn't comfortable with it.
My favorite line from this song…”Not to say the things that he truly feels And not the words of someone who kneels Let the record shows I took all the blows and did it my way”. Great reaction
It's basically a song about self responsibility and a realization that as long as you do things your way, you can't regret the outcome because you did it your way.
When you feel like its YOU vs THE WORLD, and we all get that feeling from time to time, THIS is the song that you NEED to build yourself back up to face the day.
3:30 What a great opinion and description. Although karaoke might be fun to sing this too, if you were at a concert, he controlled the stage with his voice and everyone was in awe.
This was my dad's fav song every time he had a few drinks wt his buddy they would put this on the jukebox and belt it out louder the the song playing I loved it and I absolutely love this song I think of my dad every time I hear it makes me miss him even more!!! thanks Rome
This is the one and only Old Blue Eyes: Frank Sinatra. I love this song. U need to listen to Sal Vallentinelli sing this song. He's a younger italian with a great voice!!!
New to your videos. I love the genuine reactions and willingness to listen to anything with an open mind. Great song. Great video. Keep it up. Blessed be.
Excellent reaction ! So glad you have open up to new styles of music. There is more good music than one can hear in a lifetime. But we can try ! I'll be watching.
just heard this for the first time today, its one of the highest level of music i have ever heard. the message, the soul, the grand beautiful music, perfects vocals and notes. music/art really does reflect life and you can really feel it in this song. it pierced my soul man
My dad was a huge Frank Sinatra fan. We played this song at his memorial when he died. Nine months later I was out with friends celebrating my first birthday after his death. I excused my self to use the men’s room at the bar we were at. This song was playing over the sound system (different than what was in the bar). To this day I’m convinced my dad was there with me. I can’t hear this song now without thinking of that memory and crying.
In his day all audiences were quiet when people sang, it was a sign of respect. The fifties and sixties changed everything. Frank was my mother's heart throb. She was a jitter-bugger and ball room dancer who born during the depression. She was a teenager during the 2nd World War. She loved all the crooners, Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, Perry Como, and Mel Torme to name a few.
This was not my listening genre, but when you reacted to I've got you under my skin it was fabulous. So I checked out that album (yes album) and his music was out of this world. I loved ALL of it!... Thanks for this video:)
Used to be a place near where my aunt used to live called the 3 Little Bakers. It was a restaurant that had jazz shows and Frank Sinatra covers were what they primarily played, but now it's a children's medical center. I'll miss that place.
Another thing to remember about this particular version of this song is that it was recorded late in Franks life. He was past his prime when this version was recorded - imagine when he sung it in his prime!
Wow loved your reaction video!!!! Frank Sinatra is my favorite singer of all time ! So every time I see someone in my newsfeed reacting I must definitely tune in and I’m never disappointed! Thanks for bringing some good vibes to my day ! Hope I see more ! Have you listened to THATS LIFE ???
We had duluxe adverts here with an old english sheepdog when I was little. they had a cover of this about painting and...... I can't unsee it decades later.
Sinatra was the best. I have this album and listen to it often in my car while driving. My biggest regret is I never had a chance to see him in concert when he was alive.
Frank "Old Blue Eyes" Sinatra is a legend. Elvis also does a rendition of this song that is amazing too. Check out Frank doing "New York, New York". AMAZING.
Hi Rome , Thank you sir for playing this classic & your beautiful & emotional reaction . He truly was the chairman of the board . I was crying listening to this classic , because this was my dads idol & I lost him in 2017. RIP POP.❤️🙏😔
Hope you are well Brother. Thanks for being real I heard this from my parents. If bands forget the horns violins, drums and percussion they forget the music. It's not the color of your skin it's what's in your heart. The Anthem STAYS.
Listen to Frank from 1953 - 1960 on Capitol Records, before his voice started to fray. Nobody has ever interpreted a song better than him. He sang like an actor with a brilliant voice. And he was an excellent actor, too.
Sinatra honed his craft as a singer for Tommy Dorsey's Big Band in the 1940s. It was where he learned phrasing and breath control. You will never hear the rasp of air when Sinatra inhales before he sings. If you see concert film of him, he will make a quick movement of his wrist to turn the mic away from his mouth as he inhales so you never hear that breath. Huge talent but decades of sheer hard work.
His music was never my kind of music but I identify his talent and unique qualities. Nobody quite like him. Thanks for being open to this classic, even though its day is long done.
an anthem. if ever there has been a "personal statement" song so matched to a singer, this is it. and the English lyrics were written by talented singer/songwriter Paul Anka, to a French song, for Sinatra
Originally, it's a French song called "comme d'habitude (as usual)" written in 1967 by Claude François and Jacques Revaux, and sung by Claude François (who was a very famous French singer). Paul Anka brought this song back to the United States and rewrote the lyrics in English; he was also the first to sing it there 1 year before Sinatra. :)
you better damn well believe he did it his way and if you know anything about him you know that is true!! this was a great reaction to one of all time great talents. loved it!!
Oh man, Sinatra is a gold mine of hits. You Make Me Feel So Young Come Fly With Me It Was a Very Good Year Fly Me to the Moon That's Life I've Got the World on a String Ring-A Ding Ding Just to name a few. Imo, he really dominated the 50's and 60's in terms of great singers. Not to mention, he was an actor as well. He truly is one of the greats.
Unlike many other legends, Frank seems to stay within a single octave range. And yet, he navigates that range masterfully, with great control throughout.
Fantastic reaction, loved it. I'd also suggest Fly Me to the Moon, a really light, fun song. It was a Very Good Year, an introspective and beautiful song. And if you wanna go way back to his early years, One for my Baby; the greatest "saloon" song ever written.
I love Frank Sinatra and this is one of my favorite tunes by him! He is also an excellent actor! I love him in comedies, musicals, and dramas! They called him “Old Blue Eyes”! He was so smooth and had so much swagger! He was also part of the “Rat Pack” which included Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford, and Joey Bishop! They were close friends who performed together in Las Vegas! ❤️❤️
Hey - just an FYI - Back in the 30's-40's popular (and jazz) music revolved around "standards," which were songs written by folks like Cole Porter, Irving Berlin and the Gershwin Brothers. So you would get many different artists singing their own versions of these standards. Under my skin is a good example - you'll find many versions.
I love this song. It exemplifies the life that both of my grandfather's lived. They lived their lives their way, and aside from my own father, they helped shaped me into the man I am today.
