I'm a bit of a Music Historian, and I love this song. Here's some more 411 about this song. The song, written by Garth Brooks and Pat Alger, was originally written for Country Music Star Tanya Tucker. Tucker liked it, but her and her producer thought there should be a third verse. Because Tucker, a strong woman, didn't feel that the woman in the song should let the guy get away with cheating. So a Third Verse was written. "She runs back down the hallway and through the bedroom door She reaches for the pistol kept in the dresser drawer Tells the lady in the mirror, he won't do this again 'Cause tonight will be the last time, she'll wonder where he's been" Tucker recorded the song, but it was eventually scrapped from her album. When Brooks found out, he decided to record the song himself for his album, "No Fences." He invited Alger to play on the song with him, and the 2 men recorded the song with no overdubs and no second take. Only adding the sound of the thunder onto the track. Tucker did end up releasing her version on her 1995 Box Set, 4 years after Garth released his version.

Since being turned on to country as a teen all Garth Brooks songs have been favorites of mine. The thunder rolls song though has hit me different than others. The reason is, during my senior year just before prom the M.A.D.D. (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) Group pulled the entire senior class to a trip we went to the four states fair grounds. A group of young actors played the part of girls and guys going to prom getting into a very bad DEADLY vehicle crash Garth Brooks the thunder rolls was playing in the background. It was years before I could listen to the song without balling my eyes out.
