When Garth reacted to this song, he said they played it the way he wanted to but couldn't. He absolutely loved it. Yes the 3rd verse is in the original but everyone took it out for the radio and video for the song.

I had never heard that metal band before now. When I saw the title I had very low expectations on their ability to fully pull it off and make it work and sound good. As well as not disrespecting the original as you mentioned. I was almost shocked by their execution on being able to fairly seamlessly transfer the song to metal. State Of Mind has my attention now. Thanks for another great reaction and introducing me to a new artist.

Garth’s original version of the song and video had the 3rd verse but he had to cut it from the video and the Radio because in the 90’s they couldn’t have that on CMT and the radio. He still plays the full version at his concerts

I’ve loved this cover since it came out. Gives me chills every time. Especially with the third verse. Brandon Davis is a good artist in his own right. His wife encouraged him to pursue his dream of music. They’re story is so sweet and inspiring.

Hey Nick, I love me some Garth. He was who got me into music and I agree this was a tastful remake. I was worried. You do know the third verse is Garth's. He sings it love with it in there and it always gives me chills. It's not on the single version because back in the early 90s it was too controversial for country music. The original video hints of the gun and all within the 2 verses and it was banned from the video stations back then. So in a way it's also cool to see State of Mine "finish" the original video.

That is the original song it had a third verse but the record company told garth brooks he couldn't realse it because it was too dark and rated R at the time
