He didn't tell jokes, he told truth in a funny way. The man was a philosopher just as much as he was a comedian (perhaps even more so).

I often say Bill Hicks was the Yin to Carlins yang like the perfect complimentary contemporary . Both were very powerful. Lenny Bruce was the pioneer so much so that George smiles remembering being handcuffed next to him in a cop car. All 3 were the mount Rushmore of the rebellious dark comedians speaking from the heart. Doug Stanhope I think is the closest thing living today to it personally.

I always had the theory that all those philosophers we highly regard today were their generation's comedian. Imagine Socrates on stage riffing like Carlin.

The beauty of Carlin is that he's pure honesty wrapped up in a genius observational study of the bullshit that surrounds us all of the time. He has take the time to stop and really look at the world and report back on the nonsense that is constantly trying to tell us what to think and how to identify. Such a free thinker and way ahead of his time. We did not deserve that man. Peace and love

Carlin is the goat. This isn't even a top 10 set of his imo. If you've really never seen him before, definitely check out more from him. He was THE act on HBO for years and would come out with a new special every other year. THe amount of truths he tells and predictions that we see happening now are incredible. I used to sneak downstairs at night to watch his specials when i was a kid because parents wouldn't allow the language lol. He really shaped alot of my world views with the most important being 'question everything.' Got to see him live in 2004 when he was practicing material for his 2005 special "It's Bad for Ya". Definitely would love to see more reactions to his stuff

same here, haven't voted since early 90's I hate politics. I even find it amusing to see a sign post saying, "Honesty, the best policy" inside a government office or the same sign inside a Court Room. If you despise homeless people who steals because of hunger, then there is no reason for you not to despise well dressed, well groomed, pretentious, sweet tongue, rich politicians who steals by the millions and gets away with it clean. George Carlin remains my favorite comedian for his intelligence and facility with words but I can’t watch his later stuff, after about ‘99. I don’t know if it was the loss of his first wife or just anger and cynicism growing for all the bullshit he saw when he looked out over the social landscape. In earlier bits, he cut through to the heart of things with surgical precision and served up truth like a master chef - his later stuff, to me, is more like he was wielding an ax, and I’m just not into slasher flicks. I’m not saying his observations were any less accurate, given his particular point of view, but it felt like he was just angry and out of control in comparison. If you want to check out the earlier stuff that was more skill and less rant, try his bits on 7 Dirty Words, Place for Your Stuff, Advertising, or Football vs Baseball and you’ll see pretty clearly what I mean.

The trick that he doesn't quite elaborate with voting, is that the only reason people who don't vote are pressured to vote is to counteract or outweigh the people who vote in terrible candidates. A lot of people don't bother voting either because they don't think it matters much, they're too lazy, or their disheartened about the whole process and have lost faith in it. It's convenient not to vote, but far too many people don't research candidates before voting for them; they take the rhetoric and advertisements at face value. Carlin is right about where to put the blame. But I think he could have illustrated things a bit farther.

His career went through many highs and lows and he had to reinvent himself a few times but he was always funny. My favorite era was 80s and 90s George.

what carlin did is, he took the european satire style, watered it down for american audiences and it worked, not many can say that they made that style work in america. this style of "comedy" exists mainly in central europe, but already for ages. one of those people was a thing amongst a bunch of reactors lately, a german named pispers, a bit harsher, more information, more sarcastic but the same type of stuffing the thruth down your throat in a funny way... satire is not really a thing in america now is it.

America needs to get rid of the electoral college, gerrymandering, the filibuster and money in politics (money SHOULDN'T be regarded as an acceptable form of communication, people!) and instate some ACTUAL, PROPER democracy. It's absolutely insane that a small minority is allowed to rule over the majority like this.

He wasn't just any other comedian, he was a *philosopher,* actor, author and social critic and a very smart man. Born and raised as a *New Yorker,* and was known for his black comedy and reflections on politics, English language, psychology, religion and various taboo subjects. He and his *"7 dirty words"* comedy skit(which was a pretty funny and relatable one and recommended) were central to the 1978 U.S. Supreme court case F.C.C. v Pacifica Foundation, in which a 5-4 decision affirmed the government's power to regulate incident material on the public airwaves. And widely regarded as one of the most important and influential American stand-up comics *OF ALL TIME,* and not to mention he dubbed by the newspaper to be *"the Dean of Counter culture comedians".* The guy said a lot of facts and yet was funny about it at the same time, told it like it is and wasn't afraid to speak his own mind and was a true comedic legend. Keep the George Carlin videos 😎

I have to say that most see where he's coming from, but few realize until they've heard a lot of his stuff that he never wanted us to agree with everything he said... he wanted us to think about what he said... Oh yeah... and laugh MF'r! 🤔😏 And vote... We can even vote to get rid of that damn electoral college BS. But it's kinda like winning the lottery... George Carlin was a deep thinker with hilarious delivery. I don't agree with everything he had to say but that makes no difference to me- I still liked him. The only thing he got wrong here is the cowboy joke. REAL cowboys do exist, and they are sexy as hell. Their hats, boots, belts etc. have a real purpose and real meaning history behind them, just like the urban hip hop look does. I am not offended just wanted to clarify. And you don't have to actually live on a ranch or in the hood to dress that way. If that culture speaks to you for whatever reason, then you do you. And I disagree with his views on voting too,
