I was born January 1970 so I grew up listening to heart. Wow I love every damn song they’ve ever done. This is one of my favorites. The power in her voice is mesmerizing.

Heart is one of the best musical bands ever!!, and "Alone" It is a hymn to the music!!, The best song in the history music!!! The power of this song is amazing!!!!! ...the best song ever!!! I go crazy when I listen to this song, ...the melody, the piano, the guitar, the power, the energy have, ...the Ann Wilson's voice, everything!!!! It's truly crazy!!! my goddddd!!!. How could a song like that, so incredible, have existed!!!?? The answer could be, because there existed Ann Wilson with your sister, and a group like Heart, in the best deacade of this history music!!, the 80's!!!

Funny that you are mentioning Toto. The original version of this song is made by a band called I-ten. They were the two songwriters Tom Kelly and Billy Steinberg with Toto and some other musicians.

And here I totally thought you were only good at doing JANET reactions 😅 but I am loving how you break everything down BTW can you do "Black Cat" by JANET a song that she wrote when she was only 19 years old 😊 it's the first metal hard rock song by a female black girl artist that hit number one on the charts, even surpassing Tina Turner! 😮 That's why JANET deserves respect on her name other than Michael!

Heart are amazeballs! Yes you might have hit the nail on the head. Emotions were more easily let run. At university there was always a friend with a recent break up, then that called for the traditional pub crawl, and driving him with the windows open screaming Heart and Alanis Morisette songs. Good times!

This is an 80s classic, and is widely regarded as the gold standard for 80s power ballads by heavy rock bands. You mentioned other power ballads by bands like Toto, but I think what sets the best power ballads appart is they are performed by hands that are historically hard rock bands. This band was a lot more commercial in the 80s, but they started in the 70s as a hard rock /folk band much like Led Zeppelin with classic songs such as Crazy on You, Magic Man, Barracuda, Heartless, etc. These are the Heart songs that are now considered classics more so than most of their 80s and 90s output. But when Heart recorded this song they are a heavy rock band at their core so the bombast comes natural to them, and the guitar poses are real vs. manufactured. Ann Wilson today wasn't fond of the 80s fakeness (fake fingernails, fake big hair (extensions), fake everything) and a lot of that is on full display in this video. But the performance is honest and performed with conviction. Celine Dion tried to cover this song years later and it didn't work because, as great as her voice may be, the song was too mechanical, she showed no true emotion in her phrasing, and she just isn't a rock performer. In fact I cringe when I've seen videos of her singing this song and AC/DCs 'You Shook Me All Night Long" because she looks silly when she gets out of her lane.

If you haven’t, you should really watch their performance at the Kennedy Center Honors Led Zeppelin. They were asked to perform Stairway to Heaven. Led Zeppelin was of course in the audience (no pressure!) and it brought tears to Robert Plant’s eyes. Be sure to watch the full version, as opposed to the version that was edited down for broadcast on CBS.

This song happened upon my Spotify playlist and the first thing I thought was, OOH I WONDER IF ANTON HAS HEARD THIS!... And sure enough.. I'm a month late lol.. Carrie Underwood performed this song on American Idol and that's the performance where Simon told her that she'd not only win the competition, but outsell any other winner in the show's history. He was correct. 😎

Another great reaction. Like the way you delve into it on a personal level too. As a kid of the 80s I can say there was great societal optimism in young people at the time. It seemed like anything was possible and great things were coming. This came across in the music during this era.

That voice! Ann and Nancy Wilson are incredible. I went to a tattoo parlor in Colorado Springs and got inked by the drummer from Heart. He and his wife owned this tattoo parlor. He was amazing. Did a great job and was so nice that he wouldn't even take a 50$ tip from me.

The Wilson Sisters aren't just ANY FEMALE DUO, Heart IS the GREATEST FEMALE LED 'Hard Rock' band EVER, and ANN WILSON is at an entirely different level then anyone else. Only Stevie Nicks is close, but as GREAT as Stevie is, Fleetwood Mac is mellower, and doesn't ROCK like Heart!!
