The first time I went to a Home Free concert was in an older venue that had wooden floors with wooden seats attached to them. When Tim hit that note and sustained it, all the females in the place got a cheap thrill!
This song is done in a country reggae beat. It showcases the higher & lower ranges of both Tim Foust & Avi Kaplan. That last note of Tim is impressive with how low he goes, but more impressive is how long he sustains the note. On the "Sing Off Show" that Home Free won in 2013 Tim goes even lower on this song "Ring Of Fire" & he impressed the judges so much that they gave them a standing ovation. And Adam Rupp once again was stellar in his vocal percussion.
I like how Avi switches his signature cap for a cowboy hat at the end, almost like a show of respect for Tim’s subterranean final note. “I yield, and I salute you, O’ Lord of the Bass!” 😊
Agree with others, please get a set of headphones otherwise you miss the nuances of the background vocals & Tim's low notes. You will be amazed at the difference. Love your enthusiasm for these guys.
I completely agree with folks on this comment about quality headphones or a quality quality sound system especially when you go down the Pink Floyd route or some of the other progressive music such as Jethro Tull or yes there's so many it just is required to get the understanding of the production quality I mean think about steely Dan on lousy speakers it just is not the same thing You need to experience what the producers and the artists put all their efforts into You're almost disrespecting the music not having a quality set of headphones just in my humble opinion
Technically, Johnny Cash actually did a cover of this song too. It was written by his future wife at the time, June Carter, and June's sister Anita actually released the song first. Sure, Johnny's version is by far the most famous, but it is really June's song. Johnny did push to add those iconic mariachi horns to the recording though which are awesome. The HF guys put their own fun spin on it.

Seeing them in concert, I will tell you, Tim’s bass notes made the floor shake beneath us and at times it you could literally feel it vibrating inside you. It was incredible and absolutely awe inspiring. We had box seats in the balcony, and we could feel it that strongly. I can only imagine what people felt who were in the orchestra section.
At this point it might be good for you to check out “Home Free Sing Off all performances with judges comments”. This was the show that catapulted both Penatonix and Home Free into the public’s eyes. The judges just loved Home Free so much. Shawn Stockman loved Austin’s high tenor voice and said Tim’s bass was so good. Said he’d only heard a good low bass sound from his band mate Mike McCary. They loved Adam’s beatboxing. They said he made tasteful drum sounds.

They suddenly began to realize the extent of their own abilities and creativity. Before they had been a successful professional acapella group, but during the contest they began to realize that they could do much more. They won the competition . Season four of The Sing-Off was won by Home Free. During season four, Voiceplay also competed on The Sing-Off. Voiceplay is a more theatrical group than the other two. They help each other and there is very little rivalry even during The Sing-Off. competition. Home Free and Voiceplay became close friends during the competition and helped each other. Yes, Tim can go low. I’ve heard him in concert and his voice goes through you. That last song is a Tim original Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget. Pretty funny lyrics. I really want you to get headphones to hear the bass. Try Helplessly Hoping, Brothers in Arms, I Can’t Outrun You. Btw, it’s Tim and Chance on bass. Austin is the high tenor (redhead), Rob (glasses) tenor and Adam is the beatboxer. You can also try Adam Rupp Drum Solo (2015). He’s amazing and it’s just him and a microphone doing drums.

Only those living under rocks have never heard Johnny Cash's iconic "Ring of Fire" - I think he'd be pleased that HF was bringing his song to new generations. This one was earlier in their career when Adam Rupp’s brother, Chris, one of the co-founders of HF, was still in the group. Adam Chance took Chris’ place when he moved on to work on his solo career. They are so much fun! Watching videos and seeing them in concert, I think they would be so much fun just to hang out with. I think they would have me laughing nonstop.

Shortly after the Richmond concert, which is the one I attended, they performed at the Maryland Theatre in Hagerstown, MD. If you’re in the DMV, that would have probably been the closest to you, about 1.5 hrs. outside of DC.
Ring of Fire in a more modern, somewhat reggea-like version, but still respecting the original. More than 4½ years ago this was the first video I saw/heard from Home Free. I got there because I was listening to Pentatonix at the time and Avi was my favorite. Immediately there was something that drew me to Home Free. From then on I followed them and after I think 2 videos I was a real Home Fry. I hardly follow PTX anymore. Avi still does, because Avi Kaplan and Home Free let me feel music and not just hear it. Their great harmonies, the unbelievably good beatboxing/vocal percussion and of course that incredible deep bass that makes the ground vibrate and your speakers explode. Personally, I thought Avi fit better with Home Free than with PTX. But that's my opinion 😊
