Video • GRAND FUNK RAILROAD - ...
Mark Farner - guitar, harmonica, vocals
Don Brewer - drums, vocals
Mel Schacher - bass
"Inside-Looking Out", often written "Inside Looking Out",is a 1966 single by The Animals. It was a substantial hit in their native land, reaching number 12 on the UK Singles Chart, number 21 in Canada, but was at best a minor hit in the United States, reaching number 34 on the U.S. pop singles chart. The song is very loosely based on a work chant entitled "Rosie" collected by musicologist Alan Lomax and released in his album Popular Songbook.
In 1969 it was covered by Grand Funk Railroad, who on their album Grand Funk added some marijuana references to the lyrics such as changing the original's "rebirth" to "reefer." A reworking of portions of the song was also recorded by the Austrian band Novak's Kapelle in 1969 as "Hypodermic Needle". It was later covered by doom metal band The Obsessed, released on their 1999 compilation album, Incarnate and again by The Greenhornes on their 2001 self-titled second album. In 2001, Eric Burdon released a live cover on Official Live Bootleg 2000.
Dan Auerbach does a live cover on his recent shows.
Other covers included by Fringe, Gerry Joe Weise, The Mops, and Layabouts. A sample from the Grand Funk version is embedded in the song "High 5 (Rock The Catskills)" on the Beck album Odelay.

Just like you're saying, music perfection. A couple of more you might want to check out of theirs? Actually any song from any of their albums. Aimless Lady, High Falootin' 'Woman, I can feel him in the morning. Just pick an album and play any song on it and you'll get the same rush you got from Inside Looking Out.

Truly one of the great bands and absolutely should be in the Hall of Fame! First time I saw this video it actually wore me out and I couldn't figure out how they could jam that hard for that long and still be standing! How many bands have you seen rock out like that? Absolutely one of my fav bands! This band had everything, Funk, soul, blues and rock.

You probably would love some other live songs where Mark has this chrome guitar. Black Licorice, Heartbreaker, etc.

These boys owned the midwest back in the 70's. Always went to see them when they came thru town. I still go see Mark Farner ( Mr. GFR) when ever he comes close.

Great reaction !! Love you and how much you are enjoying GFRR !! In their day, they ROCKED !! GFR Always gave it 110% and Left their hearts on the stage. They closed each show with this song. Mark's guitar was an Eastwood Messenger that fed-back terribly so he covered the f-holes with tape. It came with like a "boost" gain switch, which was kinda ahead of it's time. They had a RABID Fan base (mostly "Chicks"). When they opened a show for someone, they always "Up-Staged" the main act, even Led Zep (Half the crowd left when Led Zep came on.)!! Led Zep never let them open for them ever again !! When they opened for Rod Stewart and the Faces, the crowd Boo'ed Rod Stewart off the stage !! When promoters finally realized just how popular they were, GFR became the "Main Act". GFR became known as the originators of "Stadium Rock". They filled stadiums across the USA and Europe and sold out Shea Stadium in New York, in 72-hours !! The Beatles took 3-weeks to sell-out Shea !! I saw them twice in 1971 and they were AWESOME !! That year, at Pirates World in Dania, Fl. the Promoters sold 15,000 tickets for a outdoor venue, that only held 10,000 and the people who couldn't get in rioted and over-turned 3 City of Miami police cars !! If their manager (a friend) hadn't taken every penny and all their rights, even the guitars and Amps !! He left them NOTHING, or they would have been the biggest Band EVER !! Their leader and front man Mark Farner is still rock'in today, after decades of legal battles to finally, get the "rights" back enough to play GFR songs again !! GFR is the best thing to ever come out of Flint, Michigan (except maybe the GM Buick). There is NO GFR without Mark Farner !! WAKE UP R&R Hall of Fame !! It is criminal GFR is not in the HOF !!

This song was an epic song back in its time. What's so funny it still is. i would recommend another epic song by JOHNNY and EGAR WINTERS called TABACOO ROAD and it was about 69 or 1970 when they snag it. Very Bluesy.

When I was in HS (long ago) if you went to a party either Grand Funk or Credence was on the stereo. They were mega-popular. Just straight up good time rock, no artistic pretensions. So they were dismissed by the critics as a garage band. They didn't care and neither did we

The crazy thing is, Mark Farner has a beautiful voice. This is the only song that I’ve ever heard him sing with that rasp in his voice. You should listen to “Heartbreaker” live in LA 1974. It’s amazing! In 1971 they sold out Shea Stadium in around 72 hours. The only other band to ever sell out Shea Stadium and it took them around 3 weeks. “Heartbreaker” live in LA 1974 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-21_yRb7qYNE.htmlsi=NIuQI7Q7INHq469Z “I’m Your Captain/Closer to Home” live 1971 at Shea Stadium ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-A_t59To7Snk.htmlsi=o8txkWz4NQPYKtr2

You probably know their only number one hit, 'We're an American Band.' And lead singer guitarist Mark Farner not only plays keyboards bass guitar and some drums as well. He also wrote over 90% of the bands music.

The long necked guitar you mentioned was the bass guitar, standard size is much longer than a six string guitar. Though there are short scale basses which are similar length to six strings. Great reaction!

Saw them live in 68 and again in 70 at a pop festival. Then an old friend of mine who accompanied me to the 68 show came by my house with two tickets for their performance at a casino in Biloxi, Ms. He, his wife, and me and my wife enjoyed another great performance around ten years ago. Great band even after they lost Mark. If you want to see an EPIC live performance react to Heart live at the Kennedy Center honoring Led Zeppelin. Fairly recent show with Jason Bonham (John Bonham's son) on drums. It will make you very emotional to see these old legends' reaction.

I liked your reaction especially when you were so excited it looked like you were about to stop it but you didnt.i like your choice of words o describe them. And by the way the necks on electric bass guitars are longer because they take a thicker string and it allows more vibration so that deep tone is balanced. Thank you so much you gorgeous lady.
