Bruce Springstein introduced Jackson into the Rock hall of fame. Bruce said Late for the Sky was Jackson's masterpiece. I agree. The entire album is excellent.

Dig into more Jackson Browne. He is an amazing songwriter and performer. I’ve been a fan since his beginning. Late For The Sky is a stunningly great album.

One of the great poet laureates of my generation. Genius songwriter, astute arranger and blessed with a voice that could sing the phonebook and the audience would be held in thrall. He's my Music Man!

Jackson Browne started his career writing songs for other artists such as the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (he was briefly a member in 1966) & the Eagles (Browne co-wrote "Take It Easy"). But in the 70's he started recording his own songs. He had a lot of hits 70's-80's such as "Doctor, My Eyes", "The Load Out/Stay", "Rock Me on the Water", "Here Come Those Tears Again", "The Pretender", "Running on Empty", "Somebody's Baby", "Tender Is The Night" etc.

Jackson Browne has such a beautiful voice, with a melancholy tinge to it. He also surrounded himself with the top studio musicians of that time ( The Section) to be on this album and it shows. Beautiful melodic bass by Leland Sklar, soulful guitar by Danny ( Kootch) Kortchmar, drums played for the song perfectly by Russ Kunkel. Top studio musicians all. All still with us and performing.

@truckrboat 6 месяцев назад
I don’t believe these guys all played on this album. Jackson was forced to use his touring band of David lindley, doug Haywood, Jai winding and Larry Zack to record this album to save money. David Geffen wanted it done fast and cheap
@helenespaulding7562
@helenespaulding7562 6 месяцев назад
@@truckrboat huh. I heard Jackson say, in the new documentary about about these guys, that when he was planning his Running on Empty project, he wanted the same studio musicians who had been on his past albums. So I just assumed it was The Section on this. Were they all on The Pretender album?

This was released when I was 17. Listening to it, I reckoned that Jackson Browne had the answer to all of life's questions. I had no idea what those questions might be but I was sure Jackson would come through. Now, I realize that he has no more idea than this once 17-year old had and is still figuring things out for himself, like we all have to do.

Jackson is a master songwriter. So glad you finally got around to checking him out. Gotta check out The Pretender, Running on Empty, Doctor My Eyes, and The Load-out/Stay for starters. They're among his bigger hits, and they're all a whole lot deeper than your average hit song. For a Dancer (also on this great album) is another song much beloved by his fans - just have some Kleenex nearby.

Ah good man. Never thought anyone would do this despite asking many times. Probably my favourite album. Jackson is a poet with some of the greatest lyrics out there. Jackson was inducted into the Hall of Fame with a speech by The Boss - well worth watching Almost all his lyrics are personally inspired. Try Of Missing Persons, written for Inara George when her father, the great Lowell George, died. I played it reoeatedly thriugh the nights after my father died. When I was in the process of divorce this sing came to me repeatedly too: "Awake again, I can't pretend And I know I'm alone and close to the end Of the feeling we've known". This is the album I come back to Thank you so much for giving this great artist and great song, some exposure From this album akso, For a Dancer (another written about soneobe he knew), Fountain of Sorrow and Before the Deluge are all superb I can tell you that Jackson is overflowing with music. When I have seen him live,bhe introduces his songs with a little talk but he stands or sits and as he talks, he cant gelp but pick out chords or little runs on the piano - music runs through him like his blood.

Easily a top ten album for me. I love Browne's lyrics. Late for the Sky is perhaps the greatest song ever written about a failed relationship. Such a beautifully sad song. The whole album is fantastic. Lyrically my favorite song on the album is Farther On but For a Dancer is IMO the best song on the album (and that is saying alot). You definitely should listen to more of Jackson Browne.

I remember when this album first came out I listened to the whole album over and over. I think he is a musical genius who has a way of perfectly expressing in his lyrics and music the themes, complications, and questions that we all face in our relationships and lives. I think you're now officially a fan of Jackson, welcome!

Repeat offender here. Thanks so much for this Christmas surprise. FOR A DANCER and FOUNTAIN OF SORROW are damn near harrowing to listen to. But I still do regularly. This is my deserted island album if you can only have one. And THE LATE SHOW is the go to song on LATE FOR THE SKY. THE SHAPE OF A HEART and SKY BLUE AND BLACK are my nugget requests. I repeat THE SHAPE OF A HEART and SKY BLUE AND BLACK come highly recommended.

I feel like this track gets ignored so I’m very happy you hit it. So good and brings tears to my eyes every time. I actually first heard it on the 1976 movie Taxi Driver starring Robert De Niro. It’s quietly playing in the background during one scene. This right here gets me every time… “You never knew what I loved in you, I don't know what you loved in me. Maybe the picture of somebody you were hoping I might be. Awake again, I can't pretend And I know I'm alone and close to the end of the feeling we've known”

No contemporary male singer/songwriter has dealt so honestly and sincerely with the lyrical genius of the vulnerability of romantic idealism and the pain of adjustment from youthful dreams to adult survival as Browne. Late for the Sky, For A Dancer, Fountain of Sorrow, Father On, The Road and The Sky, and Before The Deluge are beyond beautiful. I feel his Masterpiece album is 'Late for The Sky'; you owe it to yourself to listen to it and 'The Pretender' Album. Jackson Browne became an American Songwriter Legend from those albums. Thank you for playing songs from any of his albums. And thanks for your intelligent, insightful, heartfelt commentary. Plus, all your hard work.

Good reaction to one of the great songwriters ever. I was a young man when his songs were popular and quite honestly for a time I had almost forgotten about him. Currently though, I have a half dozen of his songs on my playlist. He has that combination of great lyrics and a great voice. Then to top it off, he had such an ability to compose his songs in a way that just sucked you in.

Such a pleasure watching someone listen to this for the first time! When you consider the majority of his work never got air time because of the length of the songs; and yet he still sold millions and all the other accolades you mentioned, speaks volumes for his talent. No need to recommend a song...just pick one and it will move your soul.

Thanks for this great reaction video!! I love Jackson Browne and saw him in concert at a No Nukes Concert in Santa Fe New Mexico in 1981. I was 16 years old and had all of his albums. He is am amazing song writer and singer/musician. He is truly gifted. Be sure and check out some of his lifelong live performances. He is just brilliant. He was so young writing music as if he was an old man. He is definitely an old soul. He has some interesting interviews of his younger days and talks about the crazy times living in California. Brilliant !!

Actually Joni is the who got hurt. He left her. First time she ever had a guys leave her. Her ego couldn’t take it. Hence her making up stories of abuse which dogged his reputation for quite a while. Mitchell eventually owned up to it.

it's always interesting to see these first time listens - the reviewer tries to hit the highlights - but they always miss the true significance of the artists they are highlighting - as far as Jackson - because they don't know him and his incredible career and catalogue of songs - they miss the depth of his talent - the breadth of his talent - and maybe most importantly - what Jackson has meant to his fans who have followed him since 1972 when he first appeared as a solo singer/songwriter - Jackson has been the soundtrack of my life all these many years - I can't imagine what my life would have been without this great body of music by the singer/songwriter of my generation - and as an important footnote - missing david lindley and jeff young - two long time collaborators who passed in 2023 - thank your Jackson for all the great music and the memories

Seek out the albums "Running on Empty" and "The Pretender". BTW, the band behind him is the famous LA studio guys, the Wrecking Crew, the best available -- they played for just about everybody from The Beach Boys to Linda Ronstadt and Joni Mitchell, to name just a few, back in the day. They were very expensive, but worth every penny.
