I am so jealous that you’re about to experience Jason Isbell for the first time! He’s our best American songwriter right now. No matter which song you choose, you can’t go wrong, but I would urge you to listen to Southeastern from start to finish. It’s pretty much a masterpiece.
Awww man, to mirror so many others, keep the Jason Isbell reactions coming. If we were Vampires, Elephant, Live Oak, Cover Me Up, and basically ANYTHING from the albums Southeastern or Something More Than Free. Also, thanks for singling-out Jimbo Hart on bass. I love what he adds to Jason's tracks. Happy journeys!
Thank you Jack first time hearing this amazing song. I listened twice and Oh my the lyrics are searing Again another song making me tear up about 4 in the last 2 days Incredible songwriting and actually the whole band is great Thank you Harri for introducing me to this artist ( well actually Jack 😉) Great reaction 💜✌️🎵 And yes I hear Neil Young that you mentioned it
He is a great singer/songwriter/storyteller, just love his stuff. As a bonus he is married to the great Amanda Shires, thanks to Jack for this and to Harri for the reaction.
You did his song "Elephant" just a couple of months ago. He's got a ton of good stuff. He's probably the best writer out there right now. Personally, I'd like to hear you do a reaction to his song "Anxiety." That's not one that anybody else would request, but if you know his backstory, it's a really good lyric.
Jack - Coincidentally, I just watched an hour-long interview with Jason. He is very grounded, insightful, and intelligent, and I haven't even gotten to his performance. Jason is an incredibly talented singer, songwriter, and musician. The interview that I mentioned was actually the first time I encountered Jason. That was just about a week ago, and now I have heard many of his songs. Harri, another great reaction. I suggest that you check him out. He is worth the effort.
Interesting caught the Neil Young vibe. He's closed out more than one show with Cortez The killer. What I still find hard to believe is that he got himself fired from a band called the Drive-by Truckers. Such great talent. I'm So glad he cleaned up.
Well done sir. I love Isbell. Checkout some of his older stuff. Southeastern was a fantastic record also, AND theres a few bangers from his days with The Drive By Truckers. Goddamn Loney Love is a highlight......and yes he writes all of his own stuff. Cheers.
His album Southeastern is on Rolling Stones top 500 albums and he is considered one of the top songwriters of this generation. Southeastern was written as he found sobriety. That album and this one are among his best in my opinion, but there is tons of great stuff for you to discover including his work with the Drive By Truckers.
I believe he is the best songwriter going these days. Just great. And yes, the musical is always tasteful and well-played. Great band. Keep going with him. Check out "If We Were Vampires" (and have the tissues ready). "Cover Me Up" and "Stopping By" are just a couple more of the many great songs Jason has penned.
Saw Isbell and the 400 Unit about 5 years ago, maybe? He had just beaten his addiction and was very grateful, honest, appreciative and thankful on stage. His voice is OK. He does have that Neil Young vibe. It's his songwriting that takes center stage. Most people like a good storyteller and Jason is one for sure. He was a member of the Drive by Truckers prior to his solo career.
Check out the song Miles by Jason Isbell if you're looking for a Neil Young influence. But anything by Isbell is solid gold, he's the best there is right now.
that guitar work and tone sound like Neal with his band Crazy Horse also.. Speaking of Mr. Young have you check any of his bestie and Willie's boy Lukas Nelson?
The guitar is Neil Young or mid-career REM, for sure! Excellent ear. Also- lots of Jason Isbell songs remind me of Ryan (not Bryan) Adams- their vocal tones and lyrical content are both very similar.
