CROCE was such a thought-provoking artist....and, his music, to me, was so heartfelt. LOVED HIM! Wish he wouldn't have passed, so young. I loved his Time In A Bottle and Operator....and, his funny side: You Don't Mess Around With Jim and Bad, Bad Leroy Brown....it's a shame, though: would've LOVED to have seen what he came out with, had his career been longer.... That song always chokes me up when he says, "so life won't pass me by" only to have that happen in a very short time. I believe the other guitarist in the video also died in the plane crash. I even remember when it happen. It was the first time someone I was a fan of died. It was weird because I was really sad but didn't know the guy. Very confusing at the time. I think I was 9 yrs old. I remember it wasn't that big of an article. I thought it should have been bigger and on the front page. Very different times. "Rapid Roy" is a great and up tempo song of his.😢

This song is also in this year’s movie “Somewhere in Queens.” It plays very early in the film, and at the end it’s a newer cover by a different artist. It plays over the end credits after the Chicago song.

Another great folk rock singer songwriter who we lost so young. This is the music I grew up with. Unique storyteller & ballad singer. He touches your soul. He had a lot of great hits in his short career. "Time In A Bottle", "Photographs & Memories", "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown", "You Don't Mess Around With Jim", "Workin' At The Car Wash Blues," "I'll Have To Say I Love You In A Song", "Roller Derby Queen", "Rapid Roy", "Lover's Cross" etc.

Such a raw talent, and gifted song writer. When you hear his live performances, you realize how little he needed studio effects for his music. Jim's the kind of guy who could sit down with just a guitar, and entertain for hours.

As I was growing up, music was an important part of my life, and it still is. I happened to meet a number of musicians. John Denver was one. Harry Chapin was another. He stopped by my college one Wednesday evening and played a few songs on his guitar in front of the fireplace. He was making his living as a film maker then. I bought him a malt, and we talked about world hunger - something he was passionate about. He was giving 90% of his meager income at the time to hunger charities. I saw later that when he became a professional musician his band was mad at him for giving away so much of his income. Good artists are passionate people.

Just pure talent, and the music was real. It moves you because it's relatable, and even though the subject matter may be complex, Croce had a way of making it simple for everyone to "get". Maury's guitar playing is also spectacular. The world lost not one, but two great talents when that plane went down.

Jim was one my favorite artists as I was in my high school days back then. I can't think of one song that he did that I didn't like. " Time in a Bottle", "Photographs and Memories" and "You Don't Mess Around with Jim". My other favorite gone too soon is John Denver. His song "Grandma's Feather Bed can still get me out of "the glooms" in a hurry. Keep up the great work!

Yes, very early 70s. Croce was killed in a plane crash in Sep 1973 right after I started my freshman year of high school. The buzz and utter disbelief at school that day was overwhelming. He was such a voice for the times. There wasn't a soul that he had not touched in his all too brief life.

It was such a tragedy when Jim died in a plane crash back in 1973 and I can remember when it happened even as a kid because I liked his music even then. Ironically, I just bought a Greatest Hits CD of Jim's recently at a local Salvation Army and it is great!

The saddest part of this song is knowing Jim Croce died in a plane crash on Sept. 20, 1973 and this album didn't come out until Dec. 1 of the same year. This was the album that made him a household name the one that had all his hits on it. I was driving to work and still remember being so shocked at hearing he'd died on the radio I had to pull off the road and sit in shock.

Love, love, love Jim Croce! He was gone before I was born but I grew up listening to his music thanks to my Dad. Still some of my favorite to listen to around the house or in the car. Highly recommend Carwash Blues for its storytelling and humor. James Taylor is another singer songwriter great and you can’t go wrong checking out Sweet Baby James. 😊💗

I'm old, but I revisit those artists and their songs frequently, and I feel young again. 3 albums into his career they released Jim's greatest hits. That's actually amazing when you think about it!

The moment I listened to Operator was the first time I'd ever hear Croce. It's such a beautiful masterpiece of a song. I immediately started listening to his whole catalogue. It was eye opening and it also opened a new genre of music with the likes of James Taylor and Van Morrison. A whole bunch of other incredible artists that are escaping my thoughts atm. Croce to me, is timeless and no matter what mood I'm in when it hits my ears, I immediately have a smile on my face.

I grew up with Jim on the AM radio (WFIL in Philly). Wonderful talent but... we need to remember his partner Maurice T. Muehleisen, that died right next to him in that place crash. What a fantastic team these two were. So many memories.

Jim Croce was a modern troubador. He wrote about the people he knew and met and the places he had seen when he was a long haul trucker and other various jobs before his days as a performer. His other big songs were Bad, Bad Leroy Brown, Operator and Time in a Bottle. Other artists like Croce that I like are Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young (Crosby, Stills and Nash and Neil Young by himself are good too). Bob Dylan and Jackson Browne are worth checking out too. jim croce was every family road trip for me. it is nostalgia. hello operator and time in a bottle come to mind. but the whole greatest hits album is perfect. tarantino has a way of surprising me with his soundtracks every time. when the zombies remix of "shes not there" started toward the end of kill bill 2, i laughed out loud with joy in the theater cuz i love that song so much. i didn't see django in the theater, but similarly i rejoiced in the jim croce song alone in my room when i heard it because it already was one of my favorite songs ever after every family road trip. it just does not get better than jim croce. do time in a bottle next. it cannot disappoint. the others like bad leroy brown are fun and silly. but time in a bottle is the real shit.

There were a lot of folk-type singers and bands around Croce's time. Croce's songs, however, seemed to hit deeper in the heart than most others which made his early passing even more painful. Seals and Crofts - Diamond Girl and John Denver- Country Roads are just a drop in this deep genre of American music. As for watching movies and being impressed by the soundtrack you have to see THE GRADUATE and take in the songs by Simon and Garfunkle that carry the movie.

Great artist with his lead guitar partner who were both legendary who died so young from a plane crash. Jim was one of the best storytellers with such nice melody and superior acoustic guitar playing.Another great singer songwriter was Dan Fogelberg. Croce's voice brings me back to summer roadtrips listening to 8 tracks sitting in the middle front seat of the family station wagon. I rediscovered his music about a year ago and he's now in my regular rotation. Just discovered your channel today and you got a sub from me!

Polo,listening to Jim and Maury,the other guitarist was great in the early '70's.Most people who were into rock music back then loved Jim Croce.I played him on my stereo at home,and even my mom liked listening to him.He has many great songs and Operator maybe his best,but there are many more.Please play more from Jim.Thank you for doing his one.

I grew up in the 70’s in California. Back before California was wrecked. Jim Croce was always on the radio- and I had his albums. So sad he died young!

@@wingandhog California was THE perfect place back in the day! Best weather, beaches, farms, mountains for backpacking, skiing in the winter…. Why oh why did it have to get wrecked?!?!

@@Crushenator500 I LOVE California! I HATE that SanFrancisco has been destroyed! I would move back in a split second if the taxes were not insane- and it felt safe again. In my opinion, born and raised in Nor Cal- there is no prettier place on earth! California has everything I love…. Except the dang politics and taxes!

Jim was a people's person and spent a lot of time in food kitchens and volunteering for the poor. He has been missed for a long time now.

I grew up listening and enjoying the music of Jim Croce played on the radio and entertainment shows. It was a terrible shock when Jim Croce passed away at 30 years old, so young!!! I was in high school when Jim passed away. I agree with you Polo it was definitely about your talent, you had to have the goods! Jim Croce’s music is still beautiful and relevant!❤

Back then, they were artists. Today they are commodities. Heard that in a documentary (Netflix) about album cover art. (The title was something about squaring a circle.)

Jimmy Croce and his accompanying guitarist for a few years both died 50 years and two months ago in a tragic plane crash. This song made it to No 1 posthumously, as did his song "I'll Have to Say I Love You in a Song." They died on Sept 20th, 1973. He was just getting huge.

I remember driving with my dad all the time and it's 240z and he would always play Jim Croce's Greatest Hits and The Eagles Greatest Hits. I love and know all those things by heart!
