We saw Cocker live when he opened for Tom Petty at the Gorge, 12-13 yrs ago. Joe isn't country, though. Check 'Through the Bathroom Window, and You Can Keep Your Hat On'. I think he may be a genre of his very own...unfortunately.

It was said that Joe Cocker felt the music so hard, he couldn't stop his body from moving, as if it was playing every instrument at the same time.......By all accounts, this amazing man, was the most gentle person you could ever meet, and wore his soul like a blanket, for all of us to see ****RIP GREAT ONE****

For me, this performance was the single greatest highlight of the original Woodstock event. Joe has owned this tune since that time but in that era he and his ensemble produced other standards such as Delta Lady and Feeling Alright for 2 examples worth finding. In fact, find Mad Dogs and Englishmen his raucous tour film from the day and be amazed how any member survived it.

Fun fact about this song: It was from the massive Woodstock concert in 1969 and the thing was such a logistical nightmare that the female back up singers in Joe's band were not able to get there, which is why his two band members were singing falsetto! This is a song by the Beatles that Joe Cocker stole and made his own by providing a soul and unearthly grit the Fan Four did not have. You can hear more in his live performance of YOU ARE SO BEAUTIFUL. He also covers Ray Charles in a brutal rendition of UNCHAIN MY HEART. You two are great together. Thanks for the show. Asia's laugh is infectious.

This may be a cover but this is one of those covers where the artist makes it their own. Much like how David Bowie did an absolutely beautiful take on Across the Universe. Coincidentally both of these songs were done originally by The Beatles.

@@michaelyork7844 Nah. This is off Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Ringo Starr actually sang this for The Beatles. John and Paul wrote it. I'm not big into The Beatles but this is one of the few songs he did sing. It is a fun trivia question. I do think it would be fun to see someone listen to either the cover or original and then listen to the other. But, you thought this was Joe's song because he made it his own and the band performed it so well. Like I said, I wasn't big into The Beatles but I loved David Bowie. I thought Across the Universe was a song original to Bowie. I remember right after graduating high school in 2007 a girl I was dating loved The Beatles and we watched the movie Across the Universe together. I couldn't believe it. David still has the better version of the song. Long live David Bowie

Joe started the "Air Guitar" craze, ,,Think about it. : ) This is Woodstock footage, 1969. Joe was an epileptic and had seizures while performing before. What a brave and original performer!

This was performed at Woodstock and Joe Cocker's backup lady singers could not get to the concert in time because of a 20-mile traffic jam the rest of the band improvised even though it didn't sound that good

Don't think I ever sat through this performance without crying wether a few single tears or full blown all out whaling cry.. It just reaches in and pulls it out what ever sat there.. And there it goes, washed away by tears.. Filling up and then Freeing up that space inside
