John Denver was my favorite singer at the time. I loved the fact that he represented nature in such a positive way.

Hi there, young man, John wrote this song in Minnesota, it was a rainy day, and he was looking out the window. He co-wrote this with the late great guitar player Mike Taylor, and the late great bass player Dick Kniss. These are the guys playing with John , just 3 guys playing on that song. Truly beautiful, Wonderful reaction fella. Good work. ✌️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Allan from Scotland.

My Mom had a John Denver album, when I was in Elementary school. I’d always borrow it at night and play it on my little record player, to go to sleep by. It’s some of the most peaceful music I’ve ever heard, and I will always love his version of Country Roads better than the rest(except Home Free, they make Everything better). I was around 12, when God decided it was time for John to come live with him, and I remember crying all day, and cried myself to sleep, listening to this song, that night. (Big Hugs for this one, Ace)!* ❤

John wrote so much beauti ful music. His songs were also nature filled and that was because he cared about the world and the people in it.

My grandmother bought me a little ceramic rocking chair for my eleventh birthday that played this song, I have now passed that on to one of my grandchildren! Her name is Sunshine so it's was a fitting decision to leave it to her!

My dad was a musician and loved to play this on his guitar when I was a little girl back on the 80’s. I still cry when I hear this, thinking of my father who’s since passed.

It gives me memories as a kid sitting in our downstairs family room with my dad, with a fire crackling in the Franklin wood stove listening to John Denver on the 8 track player😊

I use to sing this song when I was little to my cat when he was old and sick and had to be put down, then again as a teenager when my grandfather passed. It always reminds me of my dear grandfather ❤❤❤❤❤

John Denver is my favorite singer of all time! I first got introduced to him from his "Wildlife Concert" when I was in middle school! I ended up listening to it on CD every day in high school! If you want a new take on the song, he did it slower in the "Wildlife Concert" and has Jim Horn on the Sax. My favorite 3 songs from him are "Poems, Prayers, and Promises" (live versions are better like "The Wildlife Concert"), "Follow Me," and "Shanghai Breezes" (again from "The Wildlife Concert")! Such a great writer, singer, and storyteller!

Somehow my dad got a tiny catamaran and kept it in our canal for my friend and I to use. He attached a 3 1/2 horse engine on the back and taught me how to fix the parts that might break during a voyage (Fort Lauderdale, FL) ... and provided all parts needed, including a gas tank and all of the gas needed. My friend and I would go out on that nearly every day. We had matching radios, hers was black and white, mine was brown and tan. This song played so much during the time we were enjoying that boat. We had sunshine on more than just our shoulders, there was a lot of sunburn, but we certainly learned about freedom and the responsibilities necessary for that. Praise God for John Denver!

The first time I ever heard this was in the library at my Jr. High school, in 1972. The school library had cassettes, and cassette players, and headphones we could check out during lunch break, or after school. My best friend suggested I check out and listen to John Denver. The first record I ever bought for myself was a John Denver album. I still have it, along with over two hundred vinyl albums, and over nine hundred CD's I've collected in the past fifty plus years. I like watching react to and enjoy the music that I grew up with.

This was my very first album (and only one for a long time) I was about 12 I think. I played it over and over and laid on my bed listening to John's sweet words. I wish he was still with us.

There was later a made-for-tv movie from 1972 that was based on this song called "Sunshine." It was so popular that a few sequels came out of it. Denver himself was popular for his holdiay TV specials throughout the 1970s, which occasionally featured this song. I believed it was on one of these that I first heard the song growing up..In the mid-1970s, Denver was huge. An amazing artist, and a beautfully minimalistic song.

This was one of the first songs I ever learned on the guitar, and it was the first time I ever had a girl mesmerized by me singing a song. A bunch of us were camping at a lake in upstate NY. It was a peaceful late afternoon with the sun going down over the water, and as I was singing, I could see one of the girls we were with just locked onto me with this awestruck look of total desire as I played it. Nothing came of it (my brother was really into her so I would never screw that up), but I could see that look in her eye and I knew! Maybe that’s why I love John Denver so much! I forgot about that until just now. Great memory. Thanks for the reminder!

First heard in 1974 on the radio-became a number one song-although this is all acoustic-the hit version also had strings behind it. I remember being in Church and there was radio interference coming across the microphone sound system-when this song started playing in the background the sun started shining through the stained glass windows-the pastor stopped preaching and let the song be heard exclaiming God wants us to experience the "Light" and listen to John. Once the song was over, the preacher said Amen and went back to his sermon.

Love that one, Tahoe! it was also about "getting out the vote" for young listeners, and Cass lays claim to the song.. which of course, was written by JD, but he plays it off... what a talent!

It would be better, as a first time listener, to listen to John`s original version first and then listen to the version with Mama Cass.
