Please react to Lea’s My Lord and Master from the King and I with Julie Andrews/Ben Kingsley. She was young teen then but what a beautiful voice and the song composition. I’m crazy with Broadways.
I was so lucky to watch her and see this live decades ago, it was life-changing. As the original Kim , she set the highest standard for everyone who played the character afterwards. I would encourage anyone to go see it. This still easily reduces me to tears. Thank you for featuring her in your channel. Echoing someone else's suggestion, her 'Movie in my Mind" from the same musical is another epic one for you to see.
@@GOTGames I was so fortunate to see Lea Salonga in Miss Saigon in New York in the early 90's and her performance was phenomenal. I love Miss Saigon so much that I saw it in LA in the late 90s for the second time but I was hesitant to go when I found out that Lea was replaced by someone who was unknown to me but my family wanted to Miss Saigon even without Lea, so I went with the mindset that it was not going to be as good as with Lea as the lead star...but I was wrong. Rachael Ann Go was just as talented as Lea and to prove that, checkout their rendition duet, side by side, that even Lea was amazed of Rachael's vocal power. Sure watched this long time ago...1991. Lea is a Philippine treasure. First Asian (Filipina) to win the Tony Award for Miss Saigon in 1991. Love you Lea and mom Ligaya🥰🥰🥰
I saw her in Miss Saigon at the Theater Royal, amazing show. Then I again in NYC, as well as Mis Les. Some of the best live experiences, and I have been to many. I had no idea who she was when I first went, and was simply stunned.
That gave her the TONY AWARD She’s the first Asian to have received a Tony. Am glad you appreciate her performance Try checking out “movie on my mind” with Rachel Ann Go, also a Filipina singer❤️
@@teresafangon6414 what Tony award did Jose Mari Chan receive? 🤔 I know it was Lea who was the first Asian to win Tony and Laurence Olivier best actress
I watched Lea perform Miss Saigon on Broadway. My parents took our whole family from San Francisco to New York to watch. It was my first time on an airplane. First time my brother & I ever gone anywhere outside California. But my parents was hellbent to celebrate & support Lea Salonga in such a groundbreaking role. Also, my dad was in Vietnam during the war. So, his connection to the musical ran deep. I think we were the only Filipinos in the audience that night. But I guarantee you, we were the loudest voices after the curtains fell. My mom was so proud of Lea. My dad had tears in his eyes and he nearly never showed emotions. An experience I haven’t and will never forget.
I watched Lea’s Ms Saigon Broadway in NY flying from Chicago just for Lea. So touching story. Lots were crying silently including me. She’s the best. First gala presented in London where the late Princess Diana attended.
If you thought that was a phenomenal performance, you MUST also check out the song Sun and Moon from the same play. It's my favorite songs from Miss Saigon--such a beautiful, tender love song.
I saw miss saigon on broadway around 96 or 97. I cant remember the year, but it was absolutely fantastic. Being half vietnamese, the story really hits home
Yes, Miss Saigon is a tearjerker. A great show to see live if you ever get the chance. I saw Lea Salonga live when she debuted on Broadway and again when she came back to Miss Saigon 10 years later. She is the real deal! If you want to review other songs from Miss Saigon, try ‘Please’ and ‘I Still Believe’ (find the versions with Lea, it is worth it).
Lea is just perfect and amazing performer. She is a living legend. Sometimes, it takes me to watch Lea's cover in order to feel the song even more. I love her. This is what I’m talking about. This song is one of the firsts I have ever fallen in love with! 💜 What a legend. And to think she was a teen when she played the role. Just wow.
This was the role that won her the Tony Award for Best Lead Actress in a Musical in 1991 on Broadway, the first Asian American woman to do so. As a fellow Filipino, it was a very proud moment. I’ve seen her perform many times, most recently here in Washington, D.C., and her voice remains crisp and powerful. She sounds as good in person as on a recording.
Regardless of nationality or race Lea is the bomb. I saw her in an interview and the commentator noted she was the first woman of color to win both the Olivier and Tony. I had to think…..”what color?” Is she talking about. To see her perform she transcends color or race, she can play any pert regardless.
I was attending theatre school in Loughton, England & got to see this live in the West End..it's intense, gritty, & heartbreakingly beautiful! I cried my eyes out!
Great reaction. I had the pleasure of seeing Lea Salonga live on Broadway in New York City in 1991when she made her Broadway debut in Miss Saigon. It was amazing her performance brought me to tears.
oooh, you should def check out "movie in my mind" from the same musical. It literally makes me cry every time I'm listening to it. And the performance is just on another level
THANK YOU... A BROADWAY LEGEND, she was introduced once! Here's another Leah with another Filipina, Rachelle Ann Go ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bWys8rQ8EXI.html
I was fortunate enough to see her in January 2001. Shortly before the show closed on Broadway. It was amazing!!! 😍 I even got her to autograph my show poster at the backstage door. It's framed and has been hanging on my wall for the last 21 years! 👍😊
She won a Tony in the US and a Juno in the UK for this performance in Miss Saigon. I believe that she was the first Asian person to ever receive those awards and this was the beginning of her career. She is an incredible performer.
Incredible heroine from Philippines, more power since 7 years old till today, tomorrow forever incredible, terrible heroine from Asia to whole Shalom world 🌎,mabuhay music 🎵 🎶 world Our Father*talent AMEN*
I had the privilege of watching Miss Saigon in Manila year 2000 with Lea Salonga playing Kim (thank God it was not the alternate plying), I'm already 47. You should buy Miss Saigon original 1889 soundtrack.
She puts all the emotions into each performance. I heard this any times and hits me hard each and everytime. Hits really hard when you know how the play goes. I have seen it live in Boston but not with Lea. It is an amazing production. If they tour again I would suggest it to anyone.
Please react to Lea Salonga's scene from Ms. Saigon where she killed Thuy. Just look for "Tony and Olivier winner Lea Salonga (Miss Saigon)" This is soooo good and as far as I know if you will do a reaction to this, you will be the very first. Thank you.
Like others have said i saw her perform in this show in London and have and listen to that original soundtrack often. She destroyed me!!! I left the show as most people did utterly broken and silent!!! Such was the power of her performance both vocally and with her acting ability. She is really an amazing artist who hasn't received the attention she so rightly deserves! The tears you have in this reaction were the tears she made me shed during this show and every time i hear the album. As good as this song was the most powerful performance by her in this show is during the song "This is the Hour" 😭😭😭 There ... are ... No... Words!!! Check it out but have something to wipe your eyes and nose with. It's devastating. She is perfection! There is another song "Bui Doi" in this shiw that is specifically about the children left behind in Saigon. It is a gut punch of a song that will rip you to shreds. It's an important song and you must react to it. It's beautiful and heartbreaking. For another amazing vocalist you might know nothing about i hope you'll check out the beautiful and talented Bernadette Peters. Especially her singing "Being Alive" , "No One is Alone", and "Faithless Love." She is a Broadway legend and has been in movies and Television though most of her work is from the stage. She is phenomenal too!
Just watched your reaction and it's 2024. I was quite emotional as I might be one of the audiences during that time in Manila and this chance of watching her was unforgettable experience. This gave birth for my love for broadway shows. Thanks man for your reaction. Jo fr the South of France
This is my favorite Musical of all times. If you ever get to see the full production, you should. Bring tissues. Even if you just watch the whole thing online. Do this production, of course, if you see it online. It's just an amazing show with SO many good songs/performances
i've seen Miss Saigon live many times, and it's an absolute heart breaker every time. The story is timeless, and tells the tragic story of a girl whose life is torn apart by war. You HAVE to see the duet with Lea and Rachelle Ann Go at the 25th Anniversary Concert of Miss Saigon singing Movie in My Mind. You will be absolutely BLOWN AWAY.
@@GOTGames Since you literally feel her love for her boy in this song, watch You Will Not Touch Him/Thuy's Death privately. It's powerful and I personally sob.
That was gorgeous. And yes, as a mother of 3, very difficult to get through. But hearing you talk about your boys, that's what broke me. My kids are 21, 19, and 15 now, and I would still give everything for them. It's been a rough road, but worth every second.
This show is so heartbreaking… it’s a modern Broadway retelling of the opera Madam Butterfly set during the Vietnam War. And yes, in the end, she DOES give her life for her child.
My colleagues and I were obsessed with Miss Saigon when it came out. We practically know the lyrics to all the songs. And yes, we watched it with the original cast when they came to the Philippines decades ago. Lea and the rest of the cast and crew were fantastic. I also had a chance to watch two more musicals with Lea and she's really a league of her own. She's nice too. Got to see her in a restaurant with her child and since our table was beside each other, i was able to get her sign my Cinderella ticket.
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VKtFfqinmWo.html Please please you HAVE to do "I'm Here" from The Color Purple, performed by Cynthia Erivo. This is a video from a live broadway performance. Listening to Ms. Erivo talk about how playing this character affected her personally just makes it SO much more powerful. One of the greatest vocal performances I feel I will ever have the pleasure of hearing!!!! Also, I'm sure I'm not the first to say this, but it is so very admirable how you let your emotions flow freely as you experience music. So many people these days can't do just that. Thank you for being you!
She is an icon of the Philippines! Pure talent. The Philippines witnessed her grow from Annie in Repertory Philippines to become the Lea Salonga today. She’s one of the first persons of color to break the glass ceiling in theater so we couldn’t be more proud of her. I’ve had the best fortune to watch her several times as Kim in Ms. Saigon. Each performance always perfect because that’s Lea. Never settling for anything less. And I’ve cried my heart out in every one of those performances. Overwhelmingly powerful every time! Amazing amazing Lea Salonga!! You should also see Too Much for One Heart. She is damn so consistent with quality!!!
I’ve been fortunate enough to see Miss Saigon three times. Every single time I’ve watched it, I cry. Such a power musical. She will always be Kim to me.
Lea originated the role of Kim in MISS SAIGON in London at age 18 and won the Olivier award at age 19. She originated the role in Broadway at age 20 and won every major American theater award (including the Tony) shortly thereafter. She returned to the broadway production for about 5 months in 1999 (she was 27-28), then did a short run in Manila at the end of 2000 - that’s where this vid is from (she was 29) and then went back to the broadway show right before it closed for the final 3 weeks in January 2001 (still 29 years old). I will echo suggestions for you to watch Lea’s audition for MISS SAIGON. She was only 17 when she tried out. It will also blow you away. And again - her name is pronounced LAY-ah, not Lee-ah.
I saw her in this role and Miss Saigon is by far my favorite of all of the Big Time musicals!!! You need to watch the entire musical but you must watch the version with Lea in the lead role! REAL MEN CRY!! It’s actually a beautiful part of your reactions💙👍
You just have to review all her songs in this musical. Movie in my mind, I still believe, Sun and Moon, last night of the world☺️ she’s very emotional and intense! Just phenomenal!
Another song you might wanna try reacting to is "The Movie in My Mind". Or try "Sun and Moon". Both are also songs in Miss Saigon Musical. I love your reaction videos. You sound so real and honest.
She was 18 yrs old at the time she sang this song… you would be amazed how she put the right emotion when she has no experience of such situation at all. Bravo she is truly a Star
If you want the Disney Lea Salonga, go and listen to “A Whole New World 23 Years Later” in Good Morning America. She sang it with the original singing voice of Aladdin as well, Brad Kane. You can also find videos where they put their original recording beside the anniversary version and it doesn’t disappoint honestly.
Lea is something else, another level, absolute queen. Thanks for your reaction Miss Saigon is a masterpiece by far my absolute fav ever (: if you really really want to cry, watch Miss Saigon full (spoiler: she does give her life for the little boy) or react to her rendition of Via Dolorosa it will blow your socks off
I like the way you React Sir. Thank you So Much for Believing the Filipino Talents. Especially Sb19. May you please React Also Sir For Steel of Sb19. Solo performance Of All By Myself? THANK you So Much
Kindly listen to these - (Showdown of Birit Queens! Regine Velasquez vs. Angeline Quinto, Julie Anne, and more) and (Lea Salonga and Brad Kane perform 'A Whole New World' on Good Morning America)
I didn't even notice the tears bursting from my eyes!!! I was fully enthralled... Wow!!! She's captivating.🙌 She won The Lawrence Olivier and Tony for this performance as Kim in, "Miss Saigon."
How I wish producers and/or directors would allow her to play Jenna in Waitress. She'd be perfect for the role as she is a Pop singer as well. They should ignore the age barrier for this role! Dammit!
My favorite performance of this song was when she sang it in the middle of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The video is low-quality, but her performance was amazing: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3nNDdWsWprg.html
Find the entire show video - I cry every time I hear the opening of the overture. Such tragedy, such beauty. Please, watch this show! (spoiler: she does......)
May I suggest another title called "Too Much For One Heart" performed by Lea Salonga which is originally from the same musical Miss Saigon. It is one more stunning performance. Link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yHmsJLzNgDY.html
Have you reacted to her singing Still Hurting from the musical Five Years Ago? There’s a rehearsal and a performance version. Both are very good but the performance version is hurtingly beautiful …..
I know this isn't Leah Solonga, but I feel you should listen to Olivia Newton-John's Warm an Tender. She wrote and recorded it after the birth of her daughter. I think, based on your comments about your children that you'd appreciate this song.
Lea Solonga Highlights Of Miss Saigon Gives a better reveal of the whole Play . From her Meeting the GI's . To love . A child and promise. of America , to the Finale , There is even a song choice for her original test.
Go watch Eva Noblezada's performance of this song. Nothing against Lea but you will see sooooo many similarities with her and Lea and I am sure Eva will do the same thing Lea is doing to you right now. I was the same way when I first went down your same rabbit hole lol. And Eva does the same thing to me as Lea does. I actually got to watch Lea in concert this year, wish I could physically watch her performance of Miss Saigon in person.
How you did not break into tears at 05:07 beats me 🙂! Thanks for that video! I have known Miss Saigon since the late 90s and I saw her and Simon Bowman on Broadway! I was totally moved to tears. I have the DVD and I cannot even put it into the player without breaking into tears. One of the best Musicals that deals with why we should not go to war with each other!
