One of Greatest rock voices. Led is made up of 4 great musicians. Jimmy Page- guitar, John Bonzo Bonham -drums, John Paul Jones-bass and organ, and Robert Plant whose voice is an instrument

People who love music need to hear some of Led Zeppelin's lesser known music. This is one of them from their first album. My favorite album of theirs and one hell of a debut. Then, Robert Plant's voice was unmatched. He was 20 yrs old. He didn't know where that voice would take him and the band. Jimmy Page was the founder and the foundation which is very apparent in this song. Such beautiful acoustic guitar in this. The rest is rock and roll history. I've loved their music for almost 50 years. It never gets old!

The general context in those years was of revolution, uncertainty, Vietnam War... Young men being drafted and taken away to fight an unwanted war.... you can hear the sound of the big plane leaving and the chaos of war right after it... the guy has to leave the place but is never going to leave his "babe".... as many other songs of the time, a majestic cry for peace and love

"Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" -- this suped-up psychedelic blues stomp is a cover of a song first recorded by Joan Baez in 1962. Baez heard songwriter Anne Bredon performing the song on the radio and began performing the song herself eventually recording it. Led Zeppelin's guitarist Jimmy Page heard the Baez version, suped it up, and wow, there you have it. "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" is the second song on their debut album. Fire!

One of my favorite songs by then. It's off their first album. Here is a man that is clearly conflicted, and like you said, you can feel all the different emotions in it. I loved your vocalizing near the end! I can't remember if you have done Ramble On and over the hills and far away, both from their fourth album, the same one that had Stairway To Heaven on it. Both of those have such dynamic range and it's so fun what they do, every layer in these songs is fantastic. Both are fan favorites as well.

I first saw Led Zeppelin at the Rose Palace in Pasadena, California in 1969. They performed this song at that concert. I saw them two more times in the early 1970s in Tempe, Arizona.

Nope. They never credited it as their own. Only the arrangement. They credited it as traditional because they heard it on a Joan Baez album. She credited it as traditional. Zeppelin didn't know it was by Bredon. In fact, Zeppelin's version is 90% original including most of the lyrics. The song construction and arrangement has nothing to do with Bredon's song.
