Yeah, I'm continually amazed that so many rap fans are dismissive of Lil Dicky just because his bars are clever and funny. Meanwhile, they idolize thousands of rappers who spout the same "tough guy/gangsta" nonsense as everyone else. By adding wit on top of the bars, Lil Dicky actually takes it to another level that many better respected rappers could never. I have to think this is the result of rap's roots in street culture. In a true hood environment, betraying any sort of perceived weakness could make you a target or be bad for your health. This leads to whole generations of people being afraid of anything that isn't tough guy posing 24/7. That fear is the real weakness though. Someone who's truly strong doesn't care what you think and can just be themselves, even if that self is goofy and self-deprecating, because they're confident that they got it when it's go-time.
