Most of Linkin Park's music has a depressing undertone to it. The lead singer suffered from severe depression and ultimately lost that battle. Chester Bennington's is a sad story. He was an amazing musician and he is missed.

@@peterwale6821 my guess is that he had already accepted that this was how it was gonna end, so his mourning wasnt long, if at all. dark as it may sound that's how i was with my grandfather, he was suffering so much before the end as he had severe Tuberculosis, that when he passed only a single tear shed down my cheek. i was ready for him to go and i knew that death taking him meant that his suffering was at an end, so i guess if anything it brought me comfort knowing that.

Chester Bennington struggled most of his adult life with depression and addiction. He considered Chris Cornell to be one of his biggest influences and when Chris committed suicide, Chester lost all hope and wound up killing himself on Chris Cornell's birthday. Chester's widow maintains his twitter and people post their testimonials how Linkin Park's music helped to turn their lives around by letting them know that there were others out there who felt just like them, she turned the tragedy of his death into something good by getting people to talk to each other about their depression. Other good song by them: My December, One Step Closer, In the End.

I'm going to have to disagree, while they were better if you saw them live, listening to any song recorded in a studio is way better than a live recording. Not only do the crowd ruin the feeling for me, most performers slightly change the song being performed which hurts my autistic mind as they aren't singing the song correctly. The only group i can say honestly sound better live is Heilung. In no way am i saying anything bad about Linkin Park, their music was a big part of my childhood and will always hold a very special place in my heart. This doesn't change the fact that Live

I'd have to say this live version is missing out on the power of Chester's voice when he screams the refrain. Obviously he'd destroy his vocal cords if he screamed full-out for a two-hour concert, but although his singing voice is excellent, it's nothing compared to the raw emotion in the studio track. Really, in most cases the live version can't really be appreciated until you have the album version to compare it against.

It still hits me every single day. Chester Bennington and Robin Williams. I can’t even put it into words. I’m glad there are so many works of art they both put their all into. I’m glad they helped open up the conversation about mental health a little more, and I’m glad that they were both always trying to help others with their art. I just hate that they’re gone. I haven’t been able to enjoy the art they put into the world since they passed, although lately LP has been popping up on my playlists and it’s bittersweet, listening to songs that literally helped save my life, but know Chester couldn’t do for himself what he did for millions of people around the world.

"The other guy," is Mike Shinoda the co-vocalist and the band's principle songwriter/producer. The end bit was the J. Robert Oppenheimer quote they sampled on A Thousand Suns. This was the A Thousand Suns tour. It was an interlude to the next song, which I believe was The Catalyst.
@neomp5
@neomp5 2 года назад
numb is one of their most mainstream songs. if you only listen to their most popular songs, you can end up walking away with the mistaken impression that they're a rock band. their roots are in hip hop, and they have experimented with every genre under the sun
@neomp5
@neomp5 2 года назад
that outro was based on a few interludes from the album "a thousand suns". the words being sung in the pitched up voice are from the song "the catalyst". i'm not sure if you can find a live version of that song that isn't the cut down version from the radio edit. the official music video also has the radio edit. the full length album version is the best version, but if you want a live one, try the one they performed at the griffith observatory

@bepbep7418
@bepbep7418 2 года назад
They ARE a rock band. In fact the category they're in is called Nu-Metal. Nu metal (sometimes stylized as nü-metal) is a subgenre of alternative metal that combines elements of heavy metal music with elements of other music genres such as hip hop, alternative rock, funk, industrial, and grunge. Nu metal bands have drawn elements and influences from a variety of musical styles, including multiple genres of heavy metal. Nu metal rarely features guitar solos or other displays of technical competence; the genre is heavily syncopated and based on guitar riffs. Many nu metal guitarists use seven-string guitars that are down-tuned to feature a heavier sound. DJs are occasionally featured in nu metal to provide instrumentation such as sampling, turntable scratching and electronic backgrounds. Vocal styles in nu metal include singing, rapping, screaming and growling. Nu metal is one of the key genres of the new wave of American heavy metal.
@neomp5
@neomp5 2 года назад
@@bepbep7418 incorrect. nu metal is firmly in the rock genre. it sometimes, but not always, features things like imitation rapping and turntable scratching, but it is still entirely rock. LP's music was not. it was built around hip hop beats, and then they added guitars on top. this is nothing like nu metal. their genre was alternative hip hop

That is the quickest regret of calling a song "definitely super upbeat" I have seen in a long time. A few seconds and the first words you hear are "I'm tired of being what you want me to be." and the face you made was just... comedy gold. Thank you. Edit: When you followed up with "the messaging is sad", I couldn't hold in a smirk for you to hear the main message of the song that makes it all a positive outcome. When making this edit to my comment, I still didn't get to the part where he says "And I know I may end up failing too, but I know you were just like me with someone disappointed in you." and realise they are opening the eyes of the rebellious youths to the fact that their parents were once just like them and went through the same bs with their parents with this song and calming them down, but I can't wait to see you realise that. Edit 2: Priceless. Also, nice save. Edit 3: Took you long enough to recognize Oppy's famous Destroyer of Worlds quote.

The thing that made Linkin Park so damn powerful is being able to put words to the complex emotions that people feel all the time. Depression, sadness, anxiety, anger....for people of my generation to sing along with the songs helps to express these emotions and somewhat heal in a cathartic way.
@ChristopherShandTheGreat
@ChristopherShandTheGreat 2 года назад
This song is and always has been one of empowerment, to me. "I'm tired of being what you want me to be.". "All I want to do/is be more like me/and be less like you." To me, this is a story of every child who was pushed and forced to be things that they weren't/didn't want to be, only to discover later on in life that they never got the chance to be who they truly are inside. That constant pressure to be what you aren't is soul crushing, and leads to depression and emotional numbness (hence the title). This song is about that realization and choosing to live authentically, and that last line is the most empowering part: "You were just like me with someone disappointed in you.". To me, that is the realization that it likely wasn't their fault; they were just doing the best they could with what they were taught. It's a song that's filled with the rage of being a disappointment, the joy of self discovery, and the beginnings of forgiveness through the realization that we are all expected to be so many things in our lives that don't necessarily align with our core being. Fuck that's a great song...

One of my favorite Linkin Park songs of all time. The PERFECT song embodiment of crippling depression, especially from a personal standpoint. 5 months ago marked the first time that I EVER thought of committing suicide by slitting my wrists with a box cutter. I willed myself to NOT reach for that blade, though. That guilt is still in the back of my mind, because I suffer so heavily from separation anxiety and fear of abandonment, I was going to inflict the same emotional pain on my family. As depressed as I may get, I'll never act on it, because it scared the hell out of me the first time.

If u didnt know the lead singer Chester took his life a couple of years ago, one of the saddest moments in my and many other ppls life which he saved with his music. I dont know if there is a short version to it but after his death they held a tribute concert to him and they played the insturmentals of this song and all that was seen on stage was a Micstand with flowers around it, and when no vocals started and just the insturmentals the whole crowd started sining, one of the most heart breaking and yet amazing moments of music history. RIP Chester.

His voice is amazing, but in this stage performance he's obviously saving his voice for later on songs. In the recorded version he goes all-out. You should do a reaction to the recorded version as well.

There's a video tribute to Chester right after he passed away, its called One More Light. They included one of his last concerts where fans were touching him and thousands of lights were in the background of the other fans. It definitely pulls at the heartstrings. The song was made for his friend Chris Cornell after his suicide and they used it for his suicide, you can feel the hurt that he was suffering from his life and the loss of his friend.

from a psychological point of view the singer (Chester Bennington) is describing what its like to have an overbearing individual (whether that is a parent spouse etc) constantly putting you down for your choices and questioning why you can be more like they are "I'm tired of being what you want me to be , Feeling so faithless, lost under the surface, Don't know what you're expecting of me, Put under the pressure of walking in your shoes ", and how the individual wants to break away and be more independent "All I want to do , Is be more like me, And be less like you" but they feel an overwhelming sense of depression and have a hard time breaking free, constantly feeling like they are being dragged back down "Caught in the undertow, just caught in the undertow" as someone who struggles with depression and a childhood trauma (for which i am getting counseling and therapy) i understand where is coming from on a deeply personal level, but i also agree with your comments about it from a song perspective, musically it is extremely well written and structured

The music video revolves around a teenage girl, everyone in the world around her seems to be rushing right by her like she’s not even really there. She’s an artist often sketching and most people don’t seem to giver her the time of day. She sits at a table with other girls and they all leave immediately, her teacher slaps her desk with a ruler because she’s distant and not really paying attention and her mother seems to be going over the same disappointed “what are you planning to do with your life” schpeel that you see every mother in every story about a young aspiring artist giving to the young aspiring artist. So yeah the depressing undertones are definitely deliberate.

this song saved my life... for a depressed person this is not sad, this is one of the most uplifting songs one could find. the feeling of not being alone, of having someone writing about what you exactly feel, in such an amazing way feels like the warmest hug! and that's the beauty of art... I wish someone could've done the same for Chester, that's the sad part....

I, like many people, went through a phase of teenage angst. And so, I listen to a lot of music that would let me vent. Funny thing thou, I also had a phase of adult angst, and Linkin Park was my weapon of choice to get all my feelings out. They were like therapy, and I am very grateful for this band being in my life at the time. RIP Chester...your presence is missed.

I remember being blown away by them the first time I heard them in 2000-2001. You've reacted to "What I've Done" and "Waiting for the End" also, so earlier songs such as "In the End" or "Crawling" would be good choices.

There are only two people who when they passed away, it hurt me so much that I cried for months afterwards. Chester because it was such a shock to the system and the other was Robin Williams. Both had issues with depression and it paralleled my life in such a dark way. There were so many questions I asked but the most prominent one was why? And will never know. He was The voice of my generation.
