It doesn't matter what genre of music you like, or grew up with, or was subjected to constantly, or forced to play. What DOES matter is that you do listen to music outside that influence now. Like it or hate it, you're expanding your horizons, and that's just great.
Didn't think I'd see Opera here and I am so here for it!! I was lucky enough to see him live (RIP Luciano) and he was magic. He and the 3 Tenors together... chills for days...
I saw him live on the Met stage in Louisa Miller. He was too big to wrap his arms around the soprano but big enough to wrap himself around the audience.
So basically he is singing about a man who has to answer 3 questions or challenges to win the heart of a princess who he loves(if he loses he will be killed), he is basically singing about his love and the certainty he will win the competition and the woman he:adores
When I was a little kid, my grandfather used to listen to Enrico Caruso records and he would have tears in his eyes. I’m 75 and I understand why he had those tears.
In Russia in the 80s even the smallest town will have an Opera House, all of my friends can all cite an example of seeing Adults cry for the 1st time on such an outing. Universally beauty is hard to deny. Also Russina Opera is one of the few times you would not think we were speaking Klingon 😉
@@lolabroadhead3972 I have records of the the Red Army Ensemble, they give me the same emotional experience, the same as Pavarotti's singing. I wish I could describe it. In a different way a Welsh male voice choir does the same. ( Perhaps being 87% Welsh accounts for that.one)
@@iriscollins7583 I think with the Red Army it is so many voices that can do the same thing is overwhelming emotionally. It is the same with a Drum line I find. It is a shame that it is considered something niche or snooty. But that is why I love watching reaction videos to all sorts of music, especially inow I live in the UK, where the radio stations do offer a range of music. You would be hard pressed to know an Elton John or Led Zeppelin track. I have never seen a Welsh Choir live yet, but there is always Men of Harlech to binge on instead 😉
Jerry Hadley was another with that power. Tito Schipas voice, while small and somewhat limited in range was also very beautiful. The most recent voices to stir my soul were Leonid Sobinov and Jean-Paul Fouchécourt.
This is so beautiful. My Mom used to listen to him, his voice is magical. I don’t think we will ever see another one like him. I surprised her for her 70th birthday to see him live, I had goosebumps the whole concert and crying. I love your reactions ❤️❤️
In addition to his duet with James Brown, check out his duets with Celine Dion and Tracy Chapman - wonderful!! He did these for charity in his hometown and artists couldnt wait to come and sing with him. He held concert in New York Central Park with 500,000 in audience.
Son I'm proud of you. That's the way to LISTEN to a masterful artist performing. Good job guys. Pavarotti was a gift to us all. There are other performances of him singing this song where he holds the notes even longer when he was younger. Ty for this reaction. Best wishes for much success to your channel.
He was so extraordinary! My mom has his records & used to play them when I was a kid! 😁 You guys are too funny! 😂😂 In my family it's usually listened to when they are trying to relax.
Probably the greatest male operatic voice and the control is unreal. For another amazing operatic voice try Montserrat Caballe, she did an entire album with Freddie Mercury. The notes that she could reach were amazing.
Absolutely one of the greatest tenors of all time and this aria was a sort of signature piece for him. Many tenors have sung it but few if any could compare to Pavarotti’s rendition. The audience would go wild as the first few bars were played, knowing what was coming.
Your reaction made my heart smile. I grew up with classical music in my house. My father would make us listen to it and he would translate the opera and tell us about the life of the composer. I hated it at the time but I am so glad he did. Without classical music we wouldn't have the music we have today. Fun fact Pavarotti would breath in a round sometimes and once I learned that I knew when I watched him I was watching a man with a true gift from God. I truly enjoyed your reaction especially at the end your faces were so awesome. 💙
Great to see that you're becoming aware of your spirits soaring. The moment it hit, your eyes lit up and you flew back in your chair! Dynamite reaction 😊
Nessun dorma, (x2) None shall sleep (x2), Tu pure, oh principessa Even you, oh Princess, Nella tua fredda stanza In your cold room, Guardi le stelle, Watch the stars, Che tremano d'amore That tremble with love E di speranza And with hope. First, thank you for playing the video thru without talking or interrupting it. Secondly thank you for reaching out of your comfort zone and learning about other forms of music. You will not regret it. Good for you.
I think you'd enjoy attending an opera. Good operas to start would be La Boheme, La Traviata, Il Barbiere do Siviglia (The Barber of Seville), Carmen, Die Zauberflote (The Magic Flute). Most operas have screens with the translation from the language the performers use to English. However, it's not needed if the opera is well performed. You'll quickly understand what's happening.
The voice versus orchestra is one of the most operatic things and the tenor is the most amazing voice in opera. You should explore Jussi and Caruso then explore some Bass voices. You should hear the sopranos, the contraltos, the full cast of characters and composers.
I love you two, honestly. I never, ever use that word, but when you said," I been working on my cursing.." cause you got a newborn. Dude, I can't stress it enough, you two have something that is SO sought after. Nurture it, make it grow. God love you.
Wow! You both were REALLY taken with that! Well done. It's great to see how a completely different genre of music can capture your generation so brilliantly. Well done, again!
His aria of "E lucevan le stelle" from the opera Tosca is priceless. He performed it in 1978 (has english subs) and is about a man who is about to be executed. It shows Pavarotti's brilliance. Even if you dont react to it, you should watch it. It will make you a fan forever. I have subscribed simply to watch you develop your taste in real music.
Nothing more romantic than the voice of Pavarotti. I've played the violin since 10 and studied opera since about 8 or 9. This has always been the top of my favorite opera songs list. I love the 3 Tenors (which you should definitely checkout), which is Pavarotti, Domingo, and Carreras. I was blessed as a kid to actually see them in concert once in LA in 1994 (I believe was the year) and got to meet them behind the scenes. Amazing. They performed Nessun Dorma as a trio and also checkout their performance of "O Sole Mia" . It shows how great of friends they were and their sense of humor while performing.
It is so good to see your appreciation of the greatest tenor of all time. You need to watch the videos from the 3 Tenors at Los Angeles in 1994. It has some of the greatest arias by Luciano. I think you will enjoy it.
If you decide to go to the opera, you have to choose wisely or you will not like it. I would recommend The Magic Flute by Mozart. Very entertaining even for a modern music listener. Or maybe Madame Butterfly by Puccini
La Traviata is a wonderful opera to start with … or Die Zauberflöte (Magic Flute) make sure you take tissue with you for sure . The emotion you feel watching it play out on the stage is mesmerizing will suck you in and you feel the pain and the joy . I think everyone on earth should go too at least one in their life . Most amazing way too get in touch with feelings you may never know you have deep inside .
That was such a cool interpretation that you just did. I am so impressed with your willingness to listen to all genres of music and to find something unique to appreciate about all of them. I've been watching you for a few months, and I am amazed at how much you just take everything in like a sponge and learn from it. That is a real gift. Have you ever considered going back to school to study music? You are obviously very smart, and I really think you could be a music critic or producer. Love you guys so much!
(Actually, to put it over the top, he’s channeling a bit of the character of “Calaf”, from the opera. Pavarotti always played this scene like he was in a state of spiritual possession.)
Nessun Dorma means No One Sleeps. The story is about a prince who will be competing in a contest in the morning to win the hand of a beautiful but cold princess. If he fails to answer her three questions correctly he will lose his head. He is not worried, he is sure he will win (Vincera, Vencera=I will win! I will Win!). He has kept his name secret, the princess has sent her servants all over town to find out who he is. No gets any sleep tonight. Check out Vesti La Giubba (Put your costume on). And keep a box of tissue handy. Opera is a play with music. The actors sing rather than speak their parts. About the orchestra: This is the largest orchestra I have ever seen. And they are the best of the best. The conductor is Zubin Meta, the most prestigious conductor in the world. Did you notice the overhead screens showing him conducting? This orchestra is so large, not all of the musicians can see the conductor, so they are watching his directions on the screens. The conductor watches Pavarotti, takes his cues from him, and conveys them to the orchestra through the movements of the baton, his hands, and his arms.
The story with this piece is interesting. Basically, he loves the Princess, and answered her three riddles correctly, so she has to marry him, but she finds him repulsive. He offers her a deal - if she can guess his name by dawn then she can have him executed. She then orders her people to stay up all night and find his name by dawn, or else she will have all of them killed. He then sings this song in triumph, because none of them know his name.
Most can take a small dose of opera when the song is superior and so is the singer as in this case. the world is full of great music not heard by victims of the corporate playlist media. Congratulations... you just stepped into the upper zone of greatness, and you KNEW it. Now try some Duke Ellington and George Gershwin as well as well.
I just respect anyone who listens to diverse music across the board.. My Playlists have always gone from Classic Rock, to Alternative, to Rap, to Old Skool Rap, to Classical, to Opera, ETC. It really is the way to be in my opinion.
I actually saw him in Dallas back in the 90s. I think 1993. I had to take the day off work ,because it was a 4 hour drive, one way, to get there. My bosses wanted to know why I needed the day off, so I told them I was going to see Pavarotti. They just laughed and didn't even know who he was. One of them actually asked me if he was an Italian golfer. LMFAO I'll never forget that performance as long as I live. He was out of this world .
Pavarotti was one of the best. You need to react to him as the three tenors. It is so joyful to see them play off each other in the middle of a concerto. Also, for a more youthful spin, react to Il Volo. Love love them.
I listen to Opera to soothe me when I have had a rough day, I pull up some of my favorite voices, Pavarotti, Bocelli, Domingo, Carerras... pop the cork on a nice bottle of wine and chillax :) Andrea Bocelli Con te Partiro is a beautiful song, he's the Blind Tenor, very beautiful voice.
Crazy!!!!!!! It's been 15 years since Luciano is gone but his voice will remain with us for eternity. A voice that made him the greatest, most immense, immeasurable, good in nature and character gave an example of behavior and professionalism that had no equal. Great Luciano, those who don't know you call you Pavarotti but for us you are Luciano. The greatest voice. Thanks for existing.
This music hits your soul not your ears it’s different and it will help you change your day his voice is one of the most beautiful sounds ever put on this planet. You should check out his song Caruso it will blow your mind
I have been playing and singing on stage since I was 6 years old, 72 years now and still counting, and how you guys reacted to this warms my heart. I know that this is totally our of your genre, and your reactions were priceless. Please do yourselves a favor and attend one symphony orchestra and one opera in your lifetime. The experiences will be well worth it.
Nessun Dorma ( "no one sleeps") is an aria from Puccini's opera "Turandot", sung by all the great ( and near great ) opera stars (male and female)........this is probably the most moving rendition of all....R.I.P., Maestro Pavarotti.....
Awesome performance. I have had the CD of the full concert since about the time it came out, and still love it. Another fire performance from this concert is by Placido Domingo, singing No Puede Ser. Search for 'Placido Domingo-No puede ser-7/7/1990 Rome'. Domingo was often disregarded when compared to Pavarotti, but in this song he showed that he could bring the fire as well. No Puede Ser is a song about a man that was told that the love of his life was just using him. In this song he expresses his doubt, because he knows her, and his heart tells him she is a good woman. It is a song full of passion, heartbreak and redemption, and Domingo does it full justice.
Loved the Pavarotti reaction! If you want to hear a really good female opera singer, there is a video called the Queen of the Night Aria and her singing is amazing.
I was so happy you liked this!! It’s so beautiful, it gives me chills and brings tears to my eyes. I remember saying I feel like he’s talking to God and he took me with him. And then you made a comment about God too and my jaw dropped! Plus, he was up in age for this recording. He’s even more brilliant in his prime.
I have to say how much respect i get from you. Awhile ago you reacted to my favorit rock band Led Zeppelin and as a musician i was very moved to hear how you perceived the individual instruments and honestly pointed out that we learn , we hear how much the different instruments add to the whole. Not least Led Zeppelin where all four are extremely skilled. Rock's equivalent of The Beatles. Not at all like Zeppelin's way of writing classical rock is Deep Purple , one of the most skilled musicians in rock history , Smoke on the water , Highway Star , Burn , Picture of home ,Lacy and many many more i can warmly recommend. Thank you for the humble honesty of my generation of music . Bless...
Great reaction! Although opera is not my favourite, there is no denying Pavarotti was absolutely incredible!! I think you guys should see something live. It doesn’t have to be opera, maybe a symphony?? Being in a room with a lot of instruments is an amazing experience. I also think you should check out ‘Time To Say Goodbye’. The version by Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman is amazing imo. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-g3ENX3aHlqU.html
Always takes me straight back to Italia 90. I really thought England were going to win it. They did win the Fair Play Award, which is something, I suppose.
Pavorotti took being an opera singer to a previously unheard of level of worldwide fame. never before had an opera singer, let alone a male opera singer, achieved what he did, globally.
Who ever recommended this 2 you guys is the fooking man Pavarotti is gold best tenor in my opinion, the passion he presents is unimaginable Vesti La Giubba which is about infidelity or to put on the costume n Italian sense is great 2 by him a 1893 cover i think haha.
He was known as the King of the high C’s and yes he hit higher notes than that regularly in opera. In the aria “ah mes amis” he hit 9 high c’s in quick succession which cemented him as one of the great tenors - for me he is the g.o.a.t. when it comes to male singers.
Nessun dorma is Italian, as was Pavarotti. Glad you discovered the Pavarotti - James Brown duet. Good for you both for not interrupting it in the middle. You two are cute together and are fun to watch.
Pavarotti was one of the greatest operatic tenors in history. Nessun Dorma is an Aria (solo) in an Opera named “Turandot” composed by Puccini in the late1890’s. Sadly, he died before he completed it and another composer finished it. If you enjoy operatic singing, search RU-vid for “The Three Tenors”. They are Pavarotti, Carreras & Domingo. They performed outdoor concerts after the World Cup Games in the 1990’s. They were close friends and their interactions with each other are funny. Specifically, search for “O Solo Mia” by the Three Tenors and enjoy.
Everytime I listen to Pavarotti do Nessun Dorma, it is goose bump, wet eye time. And I'm 74 years old and don't speak Itralian But that pure voice. Holy Cow...
I hope by now you have attended a live opera performance. Luciano Pavarotti is the reason I became hooked on opera 40 years ago and have been to many live shows in Seattle. Some I didn't like at all, others I slept through. Start with the more lighthearted, comical operas like The Barber of Seville, The Magic Flute, The Marriage of Figaro, then go on to Carmen, LaTraviata, Madame Butterfly, Aida, etc. Fortunately, the theaters provide the lyrics in English on a screen above the stage. You will LOVE it.
Amazing tenor. When Frank Rich of the NYT reviewed someone's performance, he said it was "as sturdy as Pavororotti's dressing room stool, missing one leg". That's a reference to greatness.
This a aria of victory, he is wishing the night away because in the morning he will win a challenge with the princess and she will be his. He says “in the light my kiss will melt the silence from your lips, victory!”
Opera singers have to do lessons and exercises, for years before they start performing. Learn 3 languages just to understand the most common operas. He learned to hold his breath for a very long time, to sing without taking extra breaths. Over years of effort they can expand their vocal range by one or two notes at the top, high notes, and bottom, low notes of where their voice naturally sits. They also learn to read music well enough to sing the written notes without music, on pitch. Then learn the usual major operatic roles note for note, so they can sing them correctly, without the sheet music..
I don’t care what music you’re into. There is no way that anyone cannot appreciate the talent that was Luciano Pavarotti. I get goosebumps and tears when I hear this performance.
I'm sure that pretty much every genre of music has something that appeals to everyone if they open up. As you are now. It feels great not to just say no without giving it a try. That goes for food too. Just new experiences period. It's what makes us interesting as people. ❤✌
