You may have missed the dialogue in the beginning but she said that the guy pursuing her gave her a necklace but she doesn’t roll like that and offered it to her friend. The rich guy overheard her and changed his approach by getting her some flowers and paying a guy to use his truck to pick her up in. 😂.
No one song or style ever truly represented Madonna. Much like Cher, she was constantly and brilliantly reinventing herself to remain fresh and relevant. Madonna is iconic. I hope you explore more because this is just one facet of Madonna.
This was a remake of Marilyn Monroe’s “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend”…in her movie “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” the dance, the set, the dress, all taken from this… ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bfsnebJd-BI.htmlsi=OMpy8Zfl6biVCy3E
Great reaction! Madonna, the best-selling female artist of all time, delivered an early classic with this song. 1985 marked her breakout year! She didn't come from wealth; she worked tirelessly to achieve fame. At just 19 years old, she traveled from Detroit to NYC to become a star with only $35 in her pocket. She's truly a legend
Dude: The guy that finally wins Madonna in this video is Keith Carradine. He played the FBI agent in the Dexter series and is the brother of David Carridine of the hit series Kung Fu. Back when this Madonna Video came out in 1985 I don't think anyone knew who he was.
Wooah!! I didn't know that! He looked familiar but I didn't know why. I thought Agent Lundy in Dexter was hot for an older man, now I know why! I always thought this guy was hot too!❤
Keith Carradine was pretty famous; perhaps it depends on one's age, but he was in Robert Altman's Nashville (1975) and won the Oscar for Best Original Song ("I'm Easy").
Madonna is the biggest selling female artist ever. Her voice, image and music style continually changed. Please check out the Like A Prayer video next and you won’t believe it’s the same artist.
Here's a good start: 1. Vogue 2. Papa Don't Preach 3. Frozen 4. Like A Prayer 6. Don't Cry For Me, Argentina 7. Hung Up 8. 4 Minutes (with Justin Timberlake) 9. Justify My Love 10. Like A Virgin
🇬🇧 80s Madonna is favourite. "Papa Dont Preach" 1986. "Holiday" 1983. "Crazy For You" 1985. "Borderline" 1983. "La Isla Bonita" 1986. "Lucky Star" 1983. "Express Yourself " 1989. "Who's That Girl " 1987. ❤🎼🎶👍
Madonna is a world wide icon and music legend. She is recognised not only as the queen of pop but the highest selling female recording artist of all time with over 400 million records worldwide. In the USA she has had 12 no.1 hits and 38 top 10 hits. She also has 9 no.1 albums. Madonna came from a working class family from bay city Michigan. About 1 hour drive out of Detroit. She went to New York in 1977. She arrived in New York with only $35.00 to her name to become a dancer. She is now worth over $850 million dollars
This was her 2nd single I think, 'Like a Virgin' (1984) was her first. Check out 'La Isla Bonita' (1986) next please. Some other great tunes from the same 1986 Album, 'True Blue'; 'Papa Don't Preach' 'Open Your Heart' 'Live To Tell' and many more... Cheers.
@@shadow1674 That’s the official video. With scenes from At Close Range. Live from the Confessions tour is just on another level. Can’t describe it. Look it up on RU-vid, it’s there.
I was a kid of the 70's & 80's, and while I was never a Madonna fan, I have nothing but respect for her and what she brought to the table at the start of the MTV video revolution. I have enjoyed a few of her songs, Material Girl being one of them, but if not for the video medium of the time, I don't think she would have reach the star level that she did. And that can probably be said for many of her contemporary's from the time as well, but videos took everything to a whole other level(for good or bad).
Madonna is a self made success. She didn't come from money, hers was a Brooklyn working class family upbringing. She had a strong work ethic, a vision for her life and commitment to take the world by storm. And she's done just that. She's starred in several big screen movies as an leading actress, including the big screen adaptation of the Broadway musical, Evita. You gotta check out her hits "Dress You Up", "Live to Tell", "La Isla Bonita", "Express Yourself", and "Vogue".
Madonna "Like a Virgin", "Vogue", Papa Don't Preach" She is one of my favorites ❤ worth checking more.😊 She's still performing and is as glamorous as always! 😂 Peace✌️ and Love❤️ Gary😊
...and daisies are the cheapest flower-- so he quickly scored the old dude's classic truck and gave her something she hadn't had before! Score! Material things aren't always expensive-- they're symbols! 💘
Although we live in a material world, even then, its meant sarcastic and tongue in cheek. The real message is that in the end it's not about money and material things, it's about love! The video is an hommage to Marilyn Monroe's 'Diamonds are a girl's best friend'.
The whole sequence when she is in the pink dress is a tribute to Marilyn Monroe singing ''Diamonds are a girl's best friend'' from the film ''Gentlemen prefer blonds'' .. the way she is dressed .. way she sings it .. the way she moves. Watch that and you'll see.
As an older woman, brought up in the 60'sand 70's we used to fight this concept! Money means nothing, as a girl/woman you should get yourself self-sufficient then you can choose the man you want without money getting in the way!!! Oh, and not a fluffy scarf, it's meant to be an expensive mink stole!!!Bless your cotton socks!! 😁❤️
Madonna is the best selling female artist ever, welcome to a fantastic journey if you decide to check into more of her stuff. Please go chronological as it’s the best way you can truly appreciate her art and huge influence on the pop world.🙏🏾 🙏🏾🙏🏾💗💗💗💗💗
If you are gonna dive down this rabbit hole you must do “Papa Don’t Preach” and “Like a Prayer” (and “La Isla Bonita” just because it is one of my faves!) ❤ you Shon!
This came from Marilyn Monroe's song Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend, from the movie Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. You must watch the video. You'll love it.
Madonna"s ode to Marilyn Monroe. Just like a prayer or her Grammy performance of like a virgin. Great reaction as usual my friend and Peace out 🙏 ✌️ ☮️
Your enthusiasm is infectious and I'm glad you appreciated the humor as well as her performance. Another clever/funny Madonna video is "Open Your Heart"; I think you would get a kick out of that one.
When i was young, our middle school burned down, so in 7th grade I went to high school. A sophomore gave me a diamond necklace, i didn't even know him at All, and i tried to give it back, it was left in my locker, and he cried cuz he saved for it All summer. My dad was mad i was receiving a expensive necklace at 11-12 yrs old. I had a crush on his older brother to make it a real mess. His brother and I ended up Great friends. His younger brother found a forever girl just for him. I found My forever husband and been together 28 yrs and married 26. 🎉
The "Material Girl" persona Madonna crafted is actually dripping with irony. In the video, she starts off seeming all about the bling, but in a twist, she turns down an expensive necklace and lights up over some half-dead flowers. It’s clear she’s not genuinely the "material girl"; it’s all just an act for the stage. Sadly, this clever irony flew over many heads and left her misunderstood for years. When it comes to diving into Madonna's career, "Material Girl" is a standout kickoff, but make sure you don't skip over "Like a Virgin"-it's a must-see and will naturally pop up in her live performances. If you follow her journey chronologically, you'll capture all the nuances, and it’ll make your reviews even more compelling. This method will also keep the passionate fans satisfied-they can be a lovable but particular bunch who will appreciate your thorough approach. Trust me, stick to the order, and you can't go wrong. After all, there's a reason 1.6 million people flocked to Copacabana Beach to see her rock the stage even 40 years later. Keep those fantastic reviews coming! Your thoughtful insights and engaging style are a hit with Madonna's fans, and your channel is bound to keep growing. Plus, a little side note-your fitness and looks definitely don’t hurt your appeal. Best of luck with your future reactions, and we can't wait to see more Madonna magic from you!
Madonna was like 30 when she made it. Like the same age as Michael Jackson lot of people didn’t know that. Bless her for never stop pushing herself to the top 😅
Once upon a time she was a very good entertainer. There are several of her songs, such as: Live To Tell, Into The Groove, and Crazy For You that I really enjoy listening to.She is an example of a lot of celebrities though, who should have retired and found a hobby or a different type of job(IMO). This song was put to a video that parodies the movie "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" that starred Marilyn Monroe. This is a copy of a costumes and dance chorography that was performed in that movie. BTW:The song she was doing in the dance routine was about materialism, but her talking conversations in the video was about not wanting to have men thinking they could win her over by giving her expensive things.
She still is an amazing entertainer. Her latest world tour was fantastic, sold out, and seen by millions. Almost 2 million people packed the beach at Copacabana last month to see her….. I and apparently millions of other fans starkly disagree with your call for early retirement.
One of the lines is "experience has made me rich and now they're after me". She has the comforts of wealth. Women, like men, are leery of gold diggers and people who want arm candy, not a real person to love and be loved by. In a way, the song is more about being realistic of the (material) world we live in, but still wanting authentic connection. Notice the lyrics are all word play using financial terms, but which mean something else - "can't raise my interest, I'll just walk away".
You are so charismatic! I’d definitely watch a Madonna deep dive on your channel! You must do it!! I think you’d completely appreciate seeing just how much she influenced/impacted pop culture/music. BTW, the song is supposed to be tongue in cheek, satire of sorts for the materialistic greed that defined the 80s…which is why she drove off with the guy that kept it simple.
***TRUE BLUE*** one of the first big hits....***HOLIDAY*** .... ***LIKE A VIRGIN*** (made gen x bad girls in black a thing) ***BORDERLINE*** those are ollllddd ones... ***LA ISLA BONITA*** ...***VOGUE was a whole thing in the 90s...people were "vogueing" in clubs and parties...it was a dance move...***LIVE TO TELL*** ...too many good ones. She's still famous for a reason...we can't wait to see what she does next on TikTok. lmao
If you want to see how far Madonna experimented with style and vocals during her career (and still staying Popular) check out "Frozen" which is an amazing gothic atmospheric track from about 13 years later after this one.
You should react to all 12 number ones. She more than earned her spot she is a legend. Madonna is the highest grossing female artist of all time with over 400 million records sold. She has like 37 top 10 singles - this was before the streaming era where any song from an album can chart - you actually had to buy a physical copy of a single back then. Her most recent Hot 100 hit was last years collaboration with The Weekend and Playboy Cardi called “Popular”. Your interpretation of the video is correct. It was the producer guy who threw his expensive gift in the trash. What you may have missed was her on the phone telling a friend that another guy is trying to impress her with expensive gifts and the producer overhears her.. Then at the end of the video he pays off a farmer guy to buy his beat up old truck.
For a very long time society has looked down on women who take control of their own sexuality. Madonna was no exception. Mea West was my particular favorite. There are still elements who vilify them and the controversy over a woman's bodily autonomy rages on. My husband always says, wisely, if he ever has a uterus he'll offer an option. Smart man.
Hard to even tell you where to start with her music because between the music and the awesome videos, there's just soooooo much to recommend. But I will give you three for your list: 1) Like a Prayer, 2) Human Nature, and 3) Bedtime Story.
Madana put ou an ablum every other year for like 16 years straight and each album had hits on them . She reinvents herself almost each time too. She will always be remembered as "The material girl" but there are many faces to Madana. She has a ton of amazing music and has been influencing music and fashion for the last 40 years. She is a true icon.
Loved Madonna as a teen! A musical icon for sure ❤ Edited to add, you should listen to Diamonds are a Girls best friend by Marilyn Monroe (someone else mentioned it before as well I think 😉)
This has always been my favorite Madonna song; from the beat to the switch at the end, "experience has made me rich, and now they're after me." Also, that dress made quite an impression on 14 year old me.
Yo Shon. She is playing the part of a material girl in the movie they are making, however in reality she is put off by a diamond necklace and wants a real person - love your reactions / gotta do Lenny Kravitz Are you gonna go my Way - very awesome
Michigan girl makes good 😁 always reinventing herself.. often controversial, this song, so 80's 😁- Woman was, is ,a sublime dancer/ singer/performer- and no one else could make it cool to wear your skivvies,( underwear), outside of your clothes 😂❤! And they say nothing good comes outta Pontiac MI, ( they don't actually say that 😂 ). Woo-Hoo! Madonna! And, got to say it, sorry...Hey Ohio, do you like apples? We're No #1! Go Wolverines! Woo-Hoo! How yah like them apples? Couldn't help myself, you can take the girl outta MI, but you can't take the MI outta the girl 😁. Madonna, pretty damn awesome❤, Material Girl? Think The First Lady Of Pop being tongue in cheek- made you laugh- good reaction😂! If you want to hear her real voice, check out " Like A Prayer" sooo sweet & lovely !🌹🤩
The video is irony in full bloom…she’s singing about being a material girl, but she’s really not …the first clue was at beginning of the video when she says “ he thinks he can buy me” with diamond necklace.
For info, Madonna is the most successful female recording artist in the world as certified by the guineas book of records. Only The Beatles, Elvis and Michael Jackson have been more successful. In the uk she has had almost 70 top 10 hits
There's sorta two scenarios playing out in this video. One; she's this actress playing a role where she only prefers men with money, but in real life she prefers the simpler things in life. I think you missed what she said to her friend on the phone, when the guy who gave her an expensive gift, saying "it's nice", but isnt' impressed by it. Then she tells her friend on the phone, "you want it". Meanwhile this other guy (who is rich himself) over hears it all and realizes she isn't impressed with rich guys, so he then goes out of his way to court her with flowers and a date in a an old truck. Madonna throughout her career always like to flip things. And for a long time, hated this song because people started referring her as "the material girl". This is why whenever you see her perform it, she makes fun of the song if not does something really unique and different with the performance of the song. Also, Madonna was raised in the Detroit area in a middle class money. She didnt' come from money. In fact, when she left college she had very little money and embarked on a dancing career before she fell into becoming a singer and now this huge iconic entertainer.
***MARILYN MONROE*** Here is the original performance of Diamond Are A Gir's Best Friend from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes...She totally completely copied it! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hEyWqVfY4vo.html
