I believe it was Henry Rollins who said that Dave Mustaine was the only person he knew who could make a man cry just by talking. He writes some of the best lyrics in the metal community

Dave Mustaine wrote most of Megadeth's music & lyrics... Megadeth has been his band since he was fired from Metallica in 1983. He's probably one of the best songwriters in rock & heavy metal music... as well as a shredding guitarist 🤘🤘🔥🔥 'Sweating bullets' is a great example of Mustaine's ability to tap into disturbing psychology and cynical mentality...But his ability to create songs on both the heavy and the subtle side is just xceptional. If u listen to Megadeth songs like 'Breadline'... 'Trust' ... 'In my darkest hour' ... 'The Scorpion' ... 'A tout le monde'... and compare them to thrash metal tracks like "Head crusher" ... 'Ashes in your mouth' ... 'Blackmail the universe'... "Devil's island" ... 'Take no prisoners'.... You see the breadth of his creative abilities.

Megadeth have a song called Mary Jane.. It's not actually about the herb.. Its about a witch girl that's grave exists out in the sticks of Arizona around the bassist David Ellefsons house. Dave Mustaine singer,guitarist and main founder of the band stayed out there with him around 1986/7 and they wrote the song together around it. Still you can listen to it as a Mary Jane song.. And should you know why you'll know why. Lol

Countdown to extinction was Megadeth bestselling album commercial wise reaching number two on billboard 200 at the time! Dave is one of my biggest inspirations as a starting guitarist he is and always will be one of the best to ever do it.

Also, I see others are suggesting songs from this cd. Well, I have two of my own, the title track (Countdown to Extinction) and one of the most underrated songs they ever did, Ashes in Your Mouth. This is Megadeth’s top selling album, and it is probably number two as far as musical quality (Most Megadeth fans as well as most others acknowledge that Rust in Peace is their best, as well as one of the best metal albums of alltime.).

This song was, supposedly, about Dimebag Darrell Abbott, the ultra-talented and unique guitarist from Pantera, who died way to you young 13 1/2 years ago, on stage, here in Columbus ( He was shot to death by a former fan.). This is a great city, but that act was a black mark for us, here. Dime was a true original, just like Dave is. I’m sure Dave has to wonder, sometimes, why he survived all of the mistakes he made, yet Dime went so young and so quickly through no fault of his own. You can’t always predict life. Rest in Peace, Dime.

Mustaine's style here reminds me a little of Suicidal Tendencies' "Send Me Your Money." You should check that out, and you should probably also check out Suicidal Tendencies' "Institutionalized," which is more hardcore than thrash and is kind of surprising in it's talking-rather-than-singing approach to vocals!

Dave Mustaine vocals/lead and rhythm this album had Marty Friedman but Dave wrote the music. He struggled with addiction mostly alcohol (why he got the boot from MetallicA supposedly). Dave is one of if not the best metal guitarist ever.

Dave did hit the ganja. And was an alcoholic. And a heroin addict. And cocaine. And freebase. He tried to clean up a few times before he finally straightened up through the 90s. All of this early and even middle-career stuff was in the maelstrom of binge and purge. This album was sort of at the apex and intersection of Dave pre and post drug-addled lifestyle and you can feel how he's really taking a look at himself and his life and expressing the chaos and conflict that drug addiction brought. The next album, Youthanasia, is sort of reaching forward towards taking a stand to make that change. The themes in the music really take another direction in the Megadeth albums that follow. By Cryptic Writings Dave was back to telling stories again - it's more art for art's sake. You can feel he's more focused.

I agree that sometimes self medicating is necessary, and a bit of mary Jane helps calm that war in my head too. My old form of self care was sitting in the -15 to -20 degrees blizzards singing songs that were healing for me, i live in the south now though so i dont have blizzards to relax in 😭

Megadeath #1 favorite band. Dave was also kicked from Metallica (sp) cause James & Lars couldn't handle him. Yet, they were really bad alcoholics & druggies. Dave, is a awesome man in real life. Dave put me on his shoulders when I was 8 at our country fair. 🤘🏻👊🏻

Like many music videos, this one REALLY compliments the lyrics of the song itself. I honestly get annoyed when some channels watch "lyric videos" as opposed to the ones made for broadcast. Put the lyrics up in text form, but watch the damn video made for the song. And yeah, you did watch the actual video, so you automatically got my Like. 6:15 - Mary Jane doesn't always help with the "war inside your head".... sometimes, it makes it worse. I know you put the "I'm not telling you what to do" disclaimer in there, but as someone who literally has a "war inside my head", the only thing that quells them for me, is music. Mary Jane sometimes makes it worse, because certain "voices" become more pronounced with really bizarre ideas. Self medicating is not really a bad thing(if done right), because no doctor can truly understand what is going on with you without a common point of reference. At least, this has been my experience.

Finally someone is doing my favorite song by them!!! I saw them live and it was the best concert ever!!!! Great reaction!!!! Please check out Holy Wars. You will appreciate the deep meaning in that song. Not everyone can pick up on the message. Dave was an original member of Metallica but obviously stands out on his own. The self medicating talk was so intelligent. There’s so many options out there for different types of help such as you mentioned meditation, exercise and yes I listen to the thunderstorm apps also!!! Absolutely love you 😘

Before getting heavy into hip-hop, megadeth was one of my goto bands. The main guy is Dave Mustaine. Go down this ranbbithole. Also look into Pantera. First time I saw Dave was when I saw Metallica in San Francisco in early '83, with both Dave and Cliff. I was blown away. I later found out Cliff had just joined Metallica the same month I saw them. Might've even been Cliff's first or second show with them. It was the first time I saw a bassist do a 'good' solo. Love the memories of those times, the clubs, and seeing so many bands.

Megadeth is one of my top 10 bands of all time. However, this isn't really one of their best in my opinion. I think it can come across as a bit corny, but it's still pretty good. Any of the stuff from Rust In Peace, Peace Sells, and Killing Is My Business is GOLD and worth checking out for sure.

I think you have to be an addict to understand this exactly. Dave is pretty transparent about his reckless behaviour and the bad choices. This same album "Countdown To Extinction" has a song called Skin O Teeth, which Dave introduces as "this is a song about how many times I tried to kill myself and just couldn't get the f**king job done..."

It’s funny that you mention MJ to calm the brain…one of the main themes behind this song is Dave’s longtime fight with addiction. While making this video, they went this route instead of having him play, because he was so strung out, repeating the lyrics was about as much as he could do. Should really check out some of his interviews. I remember one in particular, he was speeding in his sports car, and got lit up by the police…so he ran. He said something along the lines of “I had more substances in me than on me…I had no more intention of pulling over than I did pulling my own eyelids off”. Also, fun fact…he met Ellefson (bass player) while they were living in the same shitty apartment complex…Ellefson wouldn’t stop playing the bass line for “Running With The Devil” by Van Halen turned all the way up on 11, and so Dave threw a flower pot down at his apartment to shut him up.
