Yeah, my instincts tell me the slow part of the song is the high.... the euphoria of the high... then comes the comedown and prospect of having to endure sickness so much that you start doing whatever you have to for another fix. It's the whole vicious circle perfectly captured in a melody and lyrics.

Every list I've ever seen says this is the #1 metal song of all time. Dang straight it is.

This song is a major factor of my becoming sober. To this day if I ever feel the darkness of my addiction creeping upon me, this song helps me stay on the right path. Forever grateful for this piece of art and truth. God bless

-Their instrumentals are absolutely brilliant! -they twice performed with the San Francisco symphony orchestra and both were out of this world -they made the Guinness book of world records for performing on all seven continents in one year including in Antarctica😂😂😂 -they actually made a movie and went to therapy to save the band at one of the worst times of their lives. It's very eye-opening. -their first guitarist founded a band called Megadeth after being fired for drunkenly beating up other band members.. and people are still arguing over 40 years later about who is the best band... -their music actually made Lovecraft, Hemingway and the Bible quite interesting😂😂😂 -they're on bassist number four and that is a whole Pandora's box by itself... Metallica is one of the most influential Heavy Metal band and it consists of James Hetfield, lead vocalist and rythm guitarist, Kirk Hammett, lead guitarist, Robert Trujillo, Bassist, Lars Ulrich, drummer. Metallica formed in 1981 and this exact album gave Metallica their first Grammy Award. Metallica has also been introduced into the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame. Metallica has even played with a symphony called The San Francisco Symphony twice and it sounds amazing. Metallica amazingly got a Guinness World Record for becoming the first musical act to perform on every continent. After Ride The Lightning and Kill 'Em All, by the time Master Of Puppets (1986) came along, I was a white knuckled Metallica fan. The album came out the same year as License To Ill by the Beastie Boys.

My introduction to Metallica back in the day was Seek and destroy ! You can't go wrong with these guys!

Original bassist was cliff Burton who passed away in a tour bus accident in the 80s. Then they had Jason newstead.

If i were deserted and could only have one artists complete body of work- it would be Metallica! They can take you on a journey like no other and check every box. Best band ever.

I don't listen to Metallica much anymore, but I had backstage passes to them 5 times in the early 90's and so many fun memories. Hanging out in the SF Bay Area where they are from it wasn't unusual to see them out checking out other bands shows too. So many times driving down the highway and passing other cars headbanging to Metallica too.

I was in the Army in Germany when another soldier had me listen to "My Friend of Misery" and "Enter Sandman." I bought the black album the next day. That led me down the absolutely incredible rabbit hole of Metallica. They have been my favorite band since 1991! This album isn't fire, it's a freaking inferno!!!!

I don't wanna make to many words about metallica but the first 4 albums and the phantom lord ep plus the demos are untouchable. Imagine when this came out in the 80's all rockfans go crazy on this band cause they brought a new level to metal music. The sound has stand the test of time

The only complaint I have is: if you like it learn about it. Heyfield has the perfect voice for metal; Lars has Amazing 'Feels' on drums. Mustaine was still with them on this album; lead guitar I believe..... i know he created a lot of their Riffs; but Lars and Hetfield did most of their compositions. Burton was a top 10 bassist of all time when he passed away..... Later they get Newsted for bass then recently Trujillo. After Mustaine left and began Megadeth (after MASTER); their Lead guitar is Kirk Hammott; who has some great instrumentals W an orchestra! Amazing group & its worth knowing artists!! RIP Cliff Burton, gone Way too soon.

A great starter tune one one of the all time metal greats. The great metal bands tackle serious issues, struck out against the man and constructed music with so many layers that it has blown the minds of music producers, vocal coaches, composers etc who have reacted to this. next stop for Metallica I would recommend would be the official video the their track "One" and anti war master piece. Speaking of anti-war master precises, where is my Black Sabbath war Pigs reaction? You said you would. The greatest anti war track on the planet. I have a list of mind blowing greatness to drop on you from those guys, there is a lot of Bluesy funk in those tracks. Metallica will blow you away track after track, the Masters of shredding. The Unholy Trinity of Black sabbath, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin were the influence and inspiration to the likes of Metallica and Iron Maiden etc. Other suggestions to blow you away, Iron Maiden Hallowed be thy name, live version from the 80's at Hammersmith, and Deep purple Sweet Child in time Live version to. Metallica is a vast rabbit hole!! Cliff Burton was the bassist on the first 3 albums (this one was the 3rd). While touring in Europe for this album their bus crashed and Cliff Burton was killed. After his passing, their music slowed down.. ok, not "slowed" but wasnt really as hard and thrash as before. The first 3 albums are considered by many to be the "real" Metallica.
