I grew up with this song. Love this song. The Moody Blues was an underrated band back in the day. Glad to see young folks that appreciate good music, and I hope your generation will keep it alive. By the way, you mentioned the flute solo, another good song with some good flute playing is The Marshall Tucker Band "Heard It In A Love Song"
You are listening to a true rock masterpiece. The Moody Blues are one of the most versatile groups ever. Between them they could play 35 different instruments.
The Flute is one of the few non reed instruments that you blow into without putting your lips around the Mouthpiece. One of the hardest wind instruments to master. I played the flute 65 years ago but gave it up for the clarinet.
I loved your reaction. One of my favorite songs when I was a kid. This singer makes you feel what he’s feeling. A hauntingly beautiful song, and the orchestra adds so much.
This is one of my fav songs ever! I heard this when I was growing up in the 70's and I used to sing along but I had no idea what the song was about. I thought it was Knights in white satin and I pictured a bunch of old English Knights running around in white satin! LOL... this song touched my heart as a young girl and today it still does each time I hear it. Thanks for a great reaction video. Be sure and watch the original video of this song.. it's phenomenal.
"Nights In White Satin" is their most famous song. Moody Blues are one of my favorite groups from the 60's-80's. Love their mix of rock with classical music. Lots of great songs such as "Go Now", "Tuesday Afternoon", "The Story In Your Eyes", "Question", "Ride My See-Saw", "I'm Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band)", "Gemini Dream", "The Voice" etc. All of their music is great! Many of their records are concept albums & meant to be listened to all at once. Sadly Ray Thomas their flute player & singer passed away in 2018 & their drummer Graeme Edge passed away in 2021.
Concise, intelligent and insightful comments without rambling on n on ; love it. Also enjoy seeing your face light up when you like what you're hearing. Thanks for the awesome music and reactions.
You have grown to realize that music isn't just music, but art. It opens your minds to worlds and experiences that make life worth living. Music that can evoke an emotional responses really is art.
You are one of my favourite reactors! Your face literally says how music makes you feel, its absolutely brilliant to see you appreciate all the different eras, genres and incredible talents 😊
One of my favorite songs ever. You need to listen to this whole concept album "Days of Future Pass". It tells the story in song of a day from morning to evening.
I've seen the Moody Blues a couple times in concert. Always great, always. Just wish they would have done the poem at the end. It's needed, and wanted. :)
The Moody Blues were one of the first to use a moog synthesizer. Soon after began what became known as Progressive Rock with Yes, Genesis, ELP, King Crimson, to name a few. I'm sure your many followers will recommend early 70's Yes to start with. Enjoy your journey! With Peace and Love to you and all! (Michael)
Nice reaction video brother, I love his voice and emotional impact he delivers, I grew up listening to him in my childhood and now in my twilight. Subscribed.
The singer, Justin Haywood, wrote it as a teen, and for a full orchestra. This is the next to the last cut of the album, Days of Future Past, one of the first Concept" Albums. The Moody's catalog makes an anthill look simple and shallow. For rock flute, there's the Moodys and Jethro Tull.
Ha! 😂 Satin is a fabric used sometimes for bed sheets. Kind of like silk. Love your videos. Probably the one channel I like at the very beginning cuz I know the reaction will be on point. Keep up the work. And if you get a chance, check out some Ted Nugent - Stranglehold. Think you'll like it. Studio version.
this Albumwas written in the early 1970's.its about the day from nature to man ,each song on the album describes the parts of the day !nights in White satin was the last song on the album!.the moon is like white satin fabric ,when the moon is full1.i used to do psychedelics and listen to this whole album,i love it !likes its written in my soul ,they are great and always a powerful message in their songs, check out"Tuesday Afternoon" also " the question" they are so love spaced it opens your heart !Like God saying "I love you !my children
You should listen to the studio version of the song. At the end there is a section of spoken verses with great lyrics before the ending that you just heard. There are some great lines in those verses ("young lovers wrestle as one, senior citizens wish they were young"). Love to hear that you now appreciate many genres of music. Song reaction sites like yours are one of the most wonderful results of our modern social media-driven age!
Bro, This dude wrote this when he was 19 years old! And all of their songs have the same kind of messages so hope you check more of their stuff out. Pease brother. Also in the original there is a poem at the end which wasn't included here but you should hear if you really like this song it really wraps it up in an awesome way.
Shon this is my day of firsts ... first reaction site ever, and first time seeing someone who is truly bllown away by The Moodies of your generation. The original was on they're album Days of Future Past , I recomend it so highly. As a heads up listen to the album Darkside of the Moon by Pink Floyd if you wish to become totally blown away , but you must react to the whole album , all the music runs into itself , so you can't just listen without hearing the whole storyline ... Interested to see your take on one of "modern" days masterpieces. Keep on producing man , plenty to chew on. 😂
Shon,if you want a kick ass madman flute solo, you MUST listen to Locomotive Breath live video version by Jethro Tull! You have NEVER seen anyone slay a flute like Ian Andersen! I dare ya....😉👊
Ultimate rock flute is Jethro Tull...A wild dude. I Recomend Crosseyed Mary Or Locomotive Breath. Heavy Rock with a flute. He's the Goat Bro. Plus he looks crazy. It's hard to believe the talent just looking at him. So great.
One of the most iconic songs ever, for many of us who grew up with this music will say this song is one of our all time favorites, it was epic at High School dances😁Thanks for reacting to it!
With the flute, you blow over the hole in the instrument. My friend played flute in the highschool marching band. Until you get used to it and how to breathe, she said she'd get a little dizzy playing it.
This is a powerful song, a masterpiece of lyrics, instrumentation and vocals. Like "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin, "Nights in White Satin" touches emotions, almost sending you into another place, space, time. I never tire of hearing this hauntingly beautiful song. Listen to the audio version to hear the poem, which follows. "Tuesday Afternoon" is the next Moody Blues song you should hear. You will not be disappointed!
One of my first thoughts when I heard this song, was me riding on a donkey down the Grand Canyon at sunset. Why I don’t know. One of my buckets list things to do. The Stage is another song.
Wow! That's an oldie... But a goodie! My father used to slow dance to that when he was a teenager! If you want something that feels ''grand'' kinda like this, you might want to checkout High Hopes from Pink Floyd.
I have this entire show on DVD and it has a amazing. You should check it out. Moody blues has a lot more famous songs. Trust me it’ll be worth the watch.😎
Nights in White Satin, to my understanding, is talking about nights spent in white satin *sheets* with one's lover. Edited to add -the guys can DEFINITELY rock when they want, but they chose to go a different direction here.
What I always suggest to anyone who hears this as their first experience of the song, is to find a video from when it was first released, and compare them. Then you will realise how amazing these guys are, to sound like this after all the years that have passed.
This song and album came out when I was about 18, and it blew me away. So cool that you're groovin' to it now. Flute solos: all right, my man, you GOT to start listening to Jethro Tull. Lead singer is Ian Andersen, who also happens to be the songwriter, a fine acoustic guitar player (this is NOT acoustic music); a KILLER flute player; and a maniacal performer unlike almost anyone else. "Aqualung" is their best known album, but don't start with that song, even though it's rich. Try Locomotive Breath, Wind UP, or Psalm 43. For their live stuff...there's so much, but "Thick As a Brick, from around 1977, should do the trick. Please keep up the great work!
I loved this song when I was a child, but I was very sheltered & didn’t know anything about s*x, lol, so because I’d only heard it on the radio & never seen the title written down, I always thought it was, “Knights in White Satin” & I was picturing a knight in white satin (a very smooth, shiny material) riding a horse somewhere! Of course that means I didn’t listen to the lyrics like, at all, but what can I say. I was just a kid!
Justin Hayward had an incredible voice, so smooth, so pure. The Moody Blues would often tour with an orchestra just to add to the incredible live experience. Love and respect, bro, hog fam Canada 🇨🇦 ❤ I agree Ray Thomas was spectacular on the flute.
How's it going, Shon. I would really like to see your reaction to Fleetwood Mac's " I'm so afraid" Live in Boston video. It is a masterpiece. Love to see your reactions. You the best my friend.
Nights In White Satin is to The Moody Blues what Bridge Over Troubled Water is to Simon & Garfunkel. Yet of the Moodies works I think these songs of theirs are just as good: The Actor / Never Comes The Day / Gypsy / Question / Melancholy Man / Dawning Is The Day / One More Time To Live / You Can Never Go Home / For My Lady / Lost In A Lost World / New Horizons / Isn’t Life Strange / When You’re A Free Man / Driftwood / Nervous / It’s Cold Outside Of Your Heart / Words You Say /
One of my favorite Bands. You'd also like 'Tuesday Afternoon' from this album as well I think and I should mention, some Moody Blues songs should to be played along with it's intro tune for the best results. Departure / Ride My See-Saw (1968) from the 'In Search of The Lost Cord' album. Must be played together, 'Departure' is only 45 seconds long btw. In The Beginning / Lovely To See You (1969) from 'On The Threshold of a Dream. Each a stand alone but best played together. Great songs made even better when played together. Cheers.
Time to change direction to symphonic metal. Nightwish, the song is Ghost Love Score, live in Wacken. You have not seen anything like this….. you will LOVE it….
Loving your channel, youre a great reactor. You need to check out "The Who - Baba O'Riley (Shepperton Studios / 1978)" make sure you watch this performance!
Hello, Thank you for react to nights in white satin i'm happy that you enjoyed it, it's a classic one from the mid 70's and i'm happy that it bring so much joy to you and indeed it's a great song and great performance thanks. Greetings from the Netherlands
I really wish you had listened to the original studio recording of this iconic song. It's SO much better. Why do so many reactors insist on choosing an inferior live performance done when the artist has grown old? Those might be worth seeing, but only after the original. It's not just this song, it's several others as well where this keeps happening.
