"I Dont know how to start this.." dj premiere said nas had the song written out, he never verbalized the song out loud, so he didnt know how he wanted to make it sound.. what you hear on this song is his first and only take he needed.. dj premiere knew he was gonna be a good one after that happened
YES. Illmatic and It Was Written are a pair of rap masterpiece albums. NY was spitting fire around 90-98 between him, Mobb Deep, The Beasties... Honestly the aggression of this city/state was almost romantic through these lenses, which is a serious problem but makes for amazingly well pocketed flows
"Never put me in ya box if ya sh*t eats tapes". A dated reference to when we used cassette tapes in boom boxes to listen to our music portably. Sometimes the tape heads in the boom box would become magnetized from over use without cleaning, and the tape heads would eat up the tape from your cassette and get it t tangled up so badly with the heads that you had to snap the tape just to untangle it...which of course ruined the cassette. (Also, Nas was 16 when he wrote this...17 when it dropped)
Welcome to the journey. So many good Nas songs and albums. You get to watch him grow from a teen/early 20's on illmatic to an older guy on his new projects.
Sugested UK rapper/producer for you to dig into; Roots Manuva. Tracks like: Witness (1 Hope), True Skool, Man Fi Cool, Body Hot. I’ll stop there lol so much great music ❤️
I'm sad that a lot of younger people reacting to this don't understand "never put me in your box if your shit eats tapes", which is one of my favorite lines...
My fav thing about this album is unlike most albums whete u have a a producer, Nas assembled the best producers in NYC at the time, had them bring their best beat and had a different producer for each track.
Hes on my Mt.rushmore of hip hop! In a time when west coast "gangsta rap" was the only thing, he was a thinkers, contemplaters rapper. The beats are God level...c'mon
Arguably the best rapper ever. You wanna combine rabbit holes, given you checked out some Wu recently, look at 'Verbal Intercourse' - considered one of the best verses ever from Nas, on track with Rae & Ghost from Wu-Tang. Those were the days, my man!
Perhaps one of the craziest albums ever made is Too Much Trouble - the Baby Geto Boys' "Bringing Hell on Earth". Tracks such as ... - Only the Strong (witht Geto Boys) - Invasion of the Purse Snatchers - Take the P - Fugitives on the Run (with Scarface) ... are just crazy hard! Maybe too hard for a YT channel :-)
I see why i had got a 2k14 song vibe from this he's the one who made hate me now W flow and W reaction from stax breaking down things for someone like me with low comprehension
dang! the beat it's so sick! and the line "I never Sleep, Cause Sleep is cousing of dead" or something like that, im not speak very good english but you reactions area awesome maybe you can react to "Nas -Nas Is Coming (Ft. Dr Dre)" or "Onyx & Biohazard - Judgement Night (Music Video Version)" 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽
MCA does indeed pay homage to NAS on Too Many Rappers, but he inverts the line with, "Stay up all night, and I MC and never die, Cause death is the cousin of sleep" Also, I highly recommend the band Living Colour's remake of Biggie's "Who Shot Ya?" if you still are looking for that rap/metal fusion vibe.
You should react to One Love by Nas the song is a letter to his boy locked up then there’s a song by Cormega which is also called one Love I believe and it’s Mega answering the letter from jail ❤love your channel! Keep on doing it, mang!
Bro, have to do whole "Illmatic album" arguably greatest hip hop album of all time! "I Gave you Power", and "Rewind", greatest storytelling songs! Need more Nas bro!
Hi New here since you did this one try the original by Billy joel live at the old gray whistle test a killer blues performance. I think you will like it.
"I never sleep, coz sleep is the cousin of death." Sleeping on something/not being alert at all times, will get you killed. Also cousin can be read as 'a kin', literally family but also 'akin', same as, synonymous. Thats my take on it, might not be accurate.
