For more Nightwish with Marko on lead vocals: The Islander (Tampere show), While Your Lips are Still Red (Wembley), Master Passion Greed (never been performed live and never will), and Endlessness (lyric video, Marko left before this song could be played live).

This is Nightwish saying "thank you" to Pink Floyd. It's a tribute. I've played this version at least once daily since I discovered it a year ago (same time I discovered Nightwish). Holy shit Marko nails this one!!! Oh my God, his vocals are perfect. Brilliant arrangement by Tuomas and of course Empuu and Jukka are incredible on guitar and drums, respectively. I will be eternally grateful I discovered this very special band. I'm just gutted I didn't discover them in 1996 and can never be part of their entire journey. Thank you Nightwish

When a band performs a song without lead singer and it enters top100 best metal covers ever list, you know something is special. When they dare to do it with PF song and no one questions the quality afterwards, that "special" enters another dimension.
When Marko announced that he is leaving Nightwish, my biggest fear was that he will give up music completely. Luckily, that did not happen, so while I would love to see him return to Nightwish, I'm happy that I can still enjoy his singing. For the next song try 7 Days To The Wolves, I don't think you did that one
At 73 I've seen and heard some amazing music over the decades. When I first heard Nightwish I felt as though I had finally heard a band that I'd been waiting for. I have yet to see Nightwish live, (a dream), and feel an unfortunate envy of those who have. (Especially the lucky buggers who were at Wacken, 2013! Thank the gods for the DVD) NIghtwish's changes are, no matter how jarring at times, just part of their evolution and I'm just glad to be able to witness it all, while enjoying their individual and collective talents. As a die-hard Floyd fan, I got goosebumps on my kidneys when I first heard this tribute. And still do every time. Totally enjoy your reaction(s), seeing a younger person explore and be enthusiastic about so much great music. Well done!

Master Passion Greed is NW's ultimate angry song. Jukka trying to kill his drumset, Emppu slashing heavy riffs and Tuomas creating the background for some of Marko's best singing. It's one of my all time top 10 NW songs, it's awesome🤘🏽
For all my life (66 y old Dutch bloke) I am a fan of Pink Floyd and have see them several times. This is not a cover, this is the ultimate tribute from an exceptional band to a exceptional band. Nightwish, by the way, I only started following after seeing Floor Jansen participating in Beste Zangers. Nightwish and Floor now belong to my category of exceptional bands/musicians (Queen/Freddy Mercury, David Bowie, Santana, Bob Marley, Frank Zappa, U2, Cranberries, The Cure). And seen them all in my younger years.
Brilliant isn’t it. Marko’s voice is incredible on this. I honestly think this is better than the original. I was lucky to see this performed in a small venue in Brum in 2005.
There is no Universe where this rendition is better than the original. There isn't a guitarist on the planet that can burn a candle next to David Gilmour.
The keyboard was doing bells. And I agree. This has to be THE BEST cover of this song EVER. It's more like a re-imagining of the song, or at least the composition and some of the instrumentation. It's a World-Class cover, just like Nightwish has always been. Tuomas absolutely is a genius. :)

I have seen Pink Floyd in concert 5 times, and have heard them play this song live on several occasions. I have also seen NW in concert, but sadly without Marko. This song is an amazing tribute to Pink Floyd. Simply amazing!
So glad you got to this one...its just incredible! You want Marko and opera? From this same show, Phantom of the Opera! You really can't know the extent of Marko's vocal abilities until you hear his solo work. Must hear the song Tides by his band Tarot. The vocal performance will give you chills!
I love Pink Floyd and saw them perform this live at BC Place in Vancouver, and I'll tell you. Nightwish's version has more emotion, which really drives this song to the next level. Cheers
I dont know what it is about the keys in the beginning that just puts me right into a sort of trance, until Marko starts singing, then is a back and forth thing between Marko's voice and Tuomas on the keys, then Jukka and that "marching" drum mixed Emppu's guitar solo... Ugh... This song is hypnotic
and THAT is why Marko is so much more than the (ex) bass player and backing vocalist (with a few exceptions) of Nightwish. He is a legitimate front man, massively talented, a genuinely nice guy. He has fronted, been a member of or guested with over 40 other bands and counting. I have nothing but respect for him and wish him well in whatever he decides to do in future. 🤘
One of the documentaries they talk about how they get as good as they are. They start the practice cycle when an album is made, they play the songs over and over again. After recording they have a performance practice for the tour along with practicing all the songs again. So by the point we see them live they have played the songs 100s to 1000s of times. So in addition to be crazy talented they have an insane amount of practice with the songs and together.
It was the first time i prefer the tribute of the original.. and I'm a huge Pink Floyd fan 🤟 Nightwish put a little more emotion into that song, faboulous 👌
It's a brilliantly brave version, and really highlights Marco's great vocals. No matter how good a base player Jukka is, and no matter how great Bloodfest 2022 is, I can't help thinking that Marco's shoes haven't been quite filled...😕😕

Marko might be comiiiiing baaaack!! Marko has done an interview explaining why he had to leave. It was for his and the others sake. Depression and other issues that made touring impossible. But now he is better, adhd medication, a baby coming in the fall. AND... he could be ready to come back, but some discussions with the band/management would be needed first. Sounds awesome.

Marko Hietala has just told more about him leaving Nightwish. He says in an interview that he suffered for years from deep depression and anxiety, which led to suicidal thoughts. He believes that the separation from Nightwish did not come as a surprise to others. - My condition must have scared the band members for a long time, he states in the interview. Hietala's wife Cami, 35, got her husband to seek therapy again in 2020. Hietala was diagnosed with attention deficit disorder, and he no longer wanted to continue the tour life after the corona lockdowns opened. Now the couple is expecting a baby in October. Hietala already has adult twin boys from his previous marriage. - The situation is different now. I have had time to create a career, there are gigs and a secure livelihood. With a new member in the family, I'll stay at home for a little longer to watch that too, Hietala plans.
And to think, this was the night the band fired Tarja. Jukka was also suffering from a major migraine. You can feel the pain everyone was in. This is the greatest tribute to Pink Floyd that has ever existed.
You have to remember that nowadays Tuomas and Emppu have had nearly 2 decades more of experience. Sadly none of the other members from The End of Era concert are performing in the band anymore.
Marko is a f*cking beast. I had the chance to see them when they came to Minneapolis/St. Paul - unfortunately I couldn't due to health issues. One of my biggest regrets. We love watching your look of amazement. It's the same look we all had when we first watched these.
I think Kiss head member (Gene Simmons or Paul Stanley) once mentioned that Nightwish uses top-notch quality audio gear in their live gigs (mics, sound systems in general) which other bands use only in studio recordings.

Though my wife and I took our daughter to her first weekend music festival (Cropredy) when she was 3 months old. The combination of nappies, small tent, and breastfeeding baby actually worked surprisingly well!

Just a comment on your atmosphere comment. This is a nod to the greatest atmosphere building band,being Pink Floyd. I love this night wish tribute more than the original( which is equally excellent) and Floyd is my favourite band.
