I have always loved this song but only *just* watched the video properly - I never realised she was singing the song to her Beau to invite him to her incredible world, and recognising how brilliantly she connects that understanding that was what made me teary today.

Way to go Stan! Olivia back in the day was the hottest woman on the planet in my ever so humble opinion. The very first time I saw her on TV back in the 70s I was instantly in love and couldn't take my eyes off of her. The movie 'Xanadu' bombed at the box office but I loved it with her acting and singing and the music from the Electric Light Orchestra it was 'Magic'! Capt. Kirk times 1000!

This movie is a guilty pleasure of mine. I watch it about once a year.

Yes, ONJ is an amazing singer, entertainer. And she actually did do some modeling in the late 60's / early 70's to earn extra cash when she was still working to make it in the business. You should react to "Sam" or "Jolene" live from her 1982 concert. Actually any song from that concert would be awesome!

She's a fav of mine too, we love ONJ...You got much right about her. Except, she was NOT a dancer. If she were here today (condolences to her family), she'd be the first to tell you. She has danced some, but was not (never considered herself o be)a dancer.

I’ve even gotten Agnetha Faltskog songs mixes up with ONJ like “Can’t Shake Loose” which is sung by the blonde ABBA singer and for a time thought it was ONJ. ABBa was great in the 70’s as well as ONJ…..so comparing them is no insult

Great review! If there could be a do over to this video, I would say more Olivia close ups! Until her passing I had forgotten just how contagious her music and her spirit is. It's like finding a childhood object and having a rush of joyful memories. ELO for the music bed and we have a treasure for the ages.

Xanadu is a metaphor for opulence or an idyllic place, based upon Coleridge's description of Shangdu in his poem Kubla Khan Shangdu, the ancient summer capital of Kublai Khan's empire in China. And it is not pronounce "Ex-anadu"...It's pronounced Zanadu. This clip you are watching is actually the final scene from the movie Xanadu starring Olivia. The movie revolves around her character who is a MUSE...one of the daughters of Zeus, who comes to Earth to make a mortals dreams come true. She meets a man who dreams of creating a place full of music and dance and art where people can enjoy themselves and ends up opening a Night club called Xanadu. That's the grand opening of the club in this scene where she is singing the title song.
