I don’t speak Italian, but I can follow the emotions of the story, if you can’t follow the emotions of a story told by Pavarotti I would say that’s because you’re just listening to it, you’re not really feeling it. When you start feeling music not just listening to it, it changes everything.

I wouldn’t imagine you or your friends would sit around to enjoy opera. My friends don’t sit around and listen to Hip Hop or Jazz or Gospel. However I am fascinated with Bluegrass because it is uniquely American. I just think some of the commenters were upset that you didn’t acknowledge his greatness singing this particular piece. Rod Stewart doesn’t have the best voice in Rock nor does Robert Plant but for the time and songs they performed they were perfect. There is no one else who could sing Kashmir or Young Turks and it be a banger. Even I appreciate Eminem for the talent that he is and Angerfist for being awesome at Hardstyle Techno. You don’t have to love it to appreciate hearing it done well. I enjoy your reactions but I can’t love or agree with them all. Thank you for taking the time to be honest.

@@robertopics No you must not understand the language and do you know why? Because you can read the translation before listening AND you can also just feel the very strong emotions in Puccinis work. There are so many people who reacted to this version by Luciano, who did not understand one word but they cried because they felt it. Like i did when i heard it the first time.

Oh my dear, you only started at the top, with the best operatic tenor in thee world 🌎 I could listen to Pava sing Nessun Dorma every. day. for the rest of my life & never get tired of hearing him sing it. The man’s voice is sublime & if you understood what he was singing, you might get why he’s unsurpassed when it comes to this aria. He makes it otherworldly. @@kimperna5048 😆 how many other tenors have you listened? Pavarotti might be the greatest tenor in history (at the very least one of the greatest), but he is I'll suited for this part. He is not terrible because the greatest even at their worst are better than the majority. Do yourself a favor and listen to Corelli's version one of the really live versions and you'll see what I mean. This is a piece written for a spinto/dramatic tenor and Luciano isn't one. His timbre is too light and nimble even at his age in this version and the voice doesn't match the lyrics. Now Franco's Voice transmits the heroism, and the going against the odds attitude.

I like that at least you're honest but there's a great scene in Shawshank Redemption where the main character plays an opera song over the loudspeakers in the prison yard and everyone stops to listen (mainly because they never hear music, but still.) Andy, the main character says this and it's really true. “I have no idea to this day what those two Italian ladies were singing about. Truth is, I don’t want to know. I like to think they were singing about something so beautiful it can’t be expressed in words, and makes your heart ache because of it.”

In music, you do not need to understand the words. You have to feel it! Luciano Pavarotti was the best Tenor of the world. Luciano was among the truly great opera stars of the 20th century. His career highlights included opera house performances, celebrity duets and The Three Tenors - a musical legacy that lives on through countless Cds and DVDs. Born in Modena, Italy, Luciano was the son of a baker and amateur tenor, ans his wife - a cigar factory worker. Good Luck with your chanel. Greetings from Amsterdam The Netherlands.

I'm an operatic lyric soprano. It's great that you took the time to listen, and I appreciated an honest first reaction! That's the first step. I'd love to share my thoughts. :) *** "Summertime" from Porgy & Bess ----> The only all-black opera in history, albeit controversial to some. This aria has been covered by famous jazz musicians like Ella, Louis Armstrong, and more. It's a jazz/folk inspired opera. It's amazing how jazz and opera combined to form one of the most well-known arias in opera. Take a listen to these famous black opera singers. Summertime -- Kathleen Battle, Audra McDonald, Angel Blue, Leontyne Price :) ** Opera: Was born in Italy to pay respects to ancient Greek theater. ( music, dancing, singing, costumes, scenery, etc...) 1. Operas are in different languages(. Spanish, French, German, Italian, English, Russian, etc..). For those that speak the language, well, they don't have to translate. 2. Translations: My favorite website. www.ariadatabase.com.I have a handy dictionary lol. Even I don't know it all! I"m still amazed at the imagery the words paint. Much like a quarterback has to know his playbook, so does any vocalist. :) 3. Formal: Much like R&B, Latin, Pop, Polka or even Jazz. There are distinct characteristics, and true, not everything will catch your ear. 4. Modern Operas: Opera is innovating with the times. ( The Shining, Hercules vs. Vampires, Dead Man Walking etc.... ) 5. Keep exploring and listening to new styles.:)

@@AzaleaLala In my experience, "most people" don't. It depends on where you're from and your background. Personally, I'm "classically trained" (I hate that phrase, but it applies). I'm from a lower-middle-class background where this type of thing wouldn't be on the radar, but I'm a reasonably intelligent fellow who saw fit to go to college for music. At that point, I LEARNED to appreciate something beyond the country and rock I grew up on. If you're from an educated background where this style of music is the norm, great. But there are people who are not from that background. Just like in many aspects of life, some people don't understand what questions to ask, because they don't know what it is that they do not know -- and until you realize what you don't know, it's hard to know what knowledge and understanding you need to pursue. I say this because, at this point, I am a reasonably-educated classical musician (degrees in music performance, music theory, and music education), but with my upbringing, I would appreciate nothing like this, were it not for that education (and my parents were not college educated either). I'm thankful for the experiences and education I had, but I can still recognize that someone without those -- BOTH experiences AND education -- may not be able to really appreciate this type of music. Because I couldn't either, years ago. Maybe that's why I became a teacher, so I could help others to understand, even if they came from backgrounds like mine. Have a little patience for those who are still willing to learn. Anyone who has the willingness to learn something outside their comfort zone has the potential to truly appreciate it. When I first hear Pavorotti sing Nessun Dorma, I didn't have to understand Italian to enjoy the beauty of such a masterful sound. The feeling and emotion in the presentation brought me to tears. I then Googled the translation. I began to listen to Pavorotti specifically, then moved to other opera greats. I have determined that it takes a refined mind and heart to enjoy opera. A certain maturity of mind and spirit for finer things can bring you to enjoy opera. Much like rap and hip hop makes me angry, it steps on my every nerve, I dont have to hear the lyrics, it's the tone the beat, the tempo or something. However I quickly learned that I loved opera and I am so glad that it is made available through media as I could never afford to attend an opera. I hope this young man will at some point take a music appreciation course, so that he will learn what music truly is.

It’s 100% opera - The most iconic opera singer there is, and the first person you think of when the word is spoken aloud. And in regards to when it comes to listening to opera, it’s not meant to be listened in ‘hanging out’, it’s meant to be listened in a calm and quiet environment, so you can appreciate it. And whether you understand it or not, and it’s like that for many opera fans, it’s the emotions one focuses on, sung by the artist, and not necessarily the words, and how those emotions affects oneself. For example, I get tear-eyes everytime I hear this song, and ‘Time to say goodbye’ by Andrea Bocelli & Sarah Brightman. I have an eclectic taste in music, which means it goes all over the spectrum, not just limiting to one genre. But not everyone is going to like opera, and that’s perfectly ok. I will say, that all reactors that I’ve seen, to this song, none Caucasian, have at one point or another opened their mouths in awe, wiping their eyes, and said “Omg, I can’t believe it! I usually only listen to hip hop, but THIS guy’s amazing! Is he even human!?”, so it does surprise me at least a bit that there was NO emotional reaction whatsoever, even if the slightest. I would, however, recommend, if you like James Brown’s ‘It’s A Man’s World’, listen to the one where he does a live collab with Pavarotti - It’s insane👌🏻

These beautiful songs have the melodies that flow through you. I don’t think this would be something you’d listen to casually like you are thinking; the beach etc. It’s something you’d listen to quietly when you want your soul to be moved emotionally. The sheer raw talent of the performer, the musical instruments. This was once the “movies” back in the day before movies existed. I recommend that you try Andre Rieu and his orchestra but privately. Especially his tribute to Michael Jackson when Jermaine Jackson was his guest singer. You may never like it but you’ll eventually find that appreciation.

OK, I was watching this. I'm a classical musician myself (opera is within the realm of classical), and my phone vibrated. It vibrated to remind me of the birthday of a friend of mine, who, when he was alive, was a HUGE fan of Pavarotti. He died about 4 years ago. So I'm a bit emotional now. But, with that in mind, I have to say this: All music serves a certain purpose. This is not music to listen to hanging out with friends. It demands more attention. Understand, opera is not really a genre. An opera is a play. It's more of an event than a genre. And the style of singing is meant to accompany the production. So if this isn't something you want to listen to while hanging out with buddies, that's fine. It's not meant to be. It's something that demands more attention than that. It's something to listen to and really dig into. Dig into the melody, the harmony, and the technical aspects of the singing -- Do you like his tone? Do you like his vibrato? Do you think he expressed an idea well? Can you hear the emotion behind the singing, even without understanding the lyrics? And if you want to dig deeper than that, then look up the libretto -- that is, the story behind the specific opera (in this case, an opera called Turandot, by the composer Puccini) -- and see what it has to say. Once you understand the story and the context, the performance means more. Listening to this style of music is different than listening to what's popular. Not everyone is willing to dig that deep. If you are, you'll be rewarded with a transcendent experience. If not, that's fine, too, but it just means that this type of music will be less relatable. It's not about the language. It's about the context. I enjoy your reactions in general, and will keep watching. But when it comes to this style, it just takes a little more research to really appreciate it.

It really, really helps to know what's going on in the story. Opera is just a story/play/movie that's sung instead of spoken. "Nessun Dorma" means "No one shall sleep." It's from the opera "Turandot." It's a fairy tale type story. The hero is tasked with guessing the name of the princess by dawn. If he doesn't guess correctly, he dies. In this song, he's calling for all who can assist him to do so. "No one shall sleep... and by the time morning comes, I shall be triumphant." Pavarotti made it his "go to" song. Always sang it as a triumphant finale to all of his concerts.

Opera and classical isn't about listening to with anyone, it's about how it makes your soul feel whole you're in the moment. It's the feeling the music flows through your soul through the emotions you feel with it. I recommend you look into the meaning of the lyrics for clarification, but it's not about "understanding it" it's about the poetry, what it does for your soul in the moment. Like rap, like soul, like jazz, blues, big band etc it's all about the emotion of the music and how it fills you. That's why I love all genres.. I don't care what it means to others around me, I listen to music for me. That's how you listen to music. Of course you'll have your music with your boys etc, but you need music for YOU, cause the valley of the shadow of death is lonely, no one walks the spiritual path with you. It's mental, it's you, and it's lonely. What you feel in that moment is what you portray; strength, weakness, anger, sadness.. that's music.. it's all art and it all vibes in the soul. Italian opera or opera in itself isn't for everyone, especially more nowadays, but sometimes just feel the music. Look up "amazing grace- phantom regiment" it's a drum and bugle corps that plays it, and man you need no words for it to touch your soul.. enjoy what you listen to.

Opera is of course very formal, but its passion, drama, sadness, anger, love, egotism, all emotions....an opear itself is a story. Your first step should of been to google and find out what the song is about; it may have helped you understand what he was singing about, what the story. As for musical technicality, opera is the maximum. This isn't some mix board puttong digital beats together or a lyric that can be spoken with littlw effort. When you sing something, it has to be on a higher level of simple melody or spoken word. The talent and ability to hit a note, especially a higher note, carry that note with breathe control, and to have the clarity of sound from vocal chords is so difficult; true musician would respect that and admire it. I am sure that the more you listen to different arias, the more you will feel the emotion. Read about what is being sung to help you get an understanding of what it is about, but the more you listen, you should start to transcend that. You will bring your musocal understanding and appreciation to a higher level. And i must say, there is no one....no rocker, no rapper, no hip hop artist, no r&b artist, no opera singer that can "sing" a musical note, music in its essence, master the music....than Pavarotti

He gave an honest reaction & was respectful while doing it. If you want someone who'll just agree w/ your opinions there's plenty of creators & major media out there that'll pretend to enjoy or reinforce whatever opinions you have. It might be shallow & dishonest but they know there's good money to be made doing so as ppl like to hear their opinions echoed back. Basic psychology. He wasn't feeling it & I understand. Opera an artform & art is always subjective. That is the beauty of it. As a musician myself I admire & very much respect Pavarotti's incredible vocal talent & skill set. At the same time I don't find myself sitting around listening to his work as I rarely find opera palatable. The operatic vocal style can be quite overpowering & imo often takes away from the classical arrangement in most pieces. That is my subjective opinion, to each their own. So give the guy a break & give him a thumbs up for his honesty & willingness to check out a music style that he might have never done outside of his channel.
