For Christmas time, Pentatonix has plenty to choose from, but I'd like to suggest an original song of theirs from last year: it's called "Thank You", and while it's not a'cappella (Scott plays piano and Kevin plays the cello), it's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
Mitch does it live without the megaphone..lol. 5 of the most insanely talented humans from earth...or are they?..I have my doubts!!! Crazy that's QUEEN's Bohemian Rhapsody with 5 voices!!!!!!! great reaction. "Sounds of Silence", or "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" (yes that one)
For something from them completely different from what you've done so far, their mashup of New Rules x Are You That Somebody would be a great choice. Although you do have to hit Sound of Silence soon to complete your PTX beginner certification 😃
If you want to be shocked some more, please watch and react to the Wizard of Ahhhhs (a play on words of course) by Todrick Hall and PTX. Todrick's favorite movie was and is the Wizard of OZ and being friends with PTX since high school, they collaborated together to do this masterpiece. Hope you've watched the movie first, this way, you'll be able to understand this modernized video. Enjoy! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QkVeKb2igrg.html
Hey, Beesley! The shot of the starry sky is a nod to Queen guitarist Brian May, who went on after Queen to earn a PhD in astrophysics. Your reactions are genuinely enjoyable, and I hope you keep going for a long time!
Well, that concludes your qualifiers to call yourself a Pentaholic! Grats. I am partial to a couple of songs. Gold (cover of Kiiara) and Can't Hold Us. Glad to see you enjoying the rabbit hole. 😁😁😎
I absolutely love your reactions! Your smile is so genuine and contagious, like a kid in the candy store.. I guess Freddy would have liked this version like Brian May did. Please react to "Gold", "Mad World" and "New rules x are you that somebody"
Nice reaction! Did you notice how well Kevin replicated Roger Taylor's drumming? I concur that the Christmas Special version of Hallelujah should be checked out - lovely to watch/hear and it will also clarify some things, like how Scott takes over the bass from the bass lead when needed. I'd also recommend their covers of John Lennon's Imagine and Simon and Garfunkel''s The Sound of Silence. There are dozens of Christmas songs by PTX, some more recent pop covers, and a number of originals. What would you like? Upbeat things more like Daft Punk, or ballads/anthems like Hallelujah or The Prayer?
Thank you for reacting to this amazing Pentatonix video. They are incredible. It was very cool of Brian May, of Queen, to post a link to the Pentatonix video on his social media with the message to enjoy. Mitch was doing the guitar sound with his voice. He was holding a prop. Mitch also does a great violin sound.
Hello from Arizona 🏜️, USA! I LOVE your Pentatonix reaction videos!! It's wonderful seeing first time reactions turn into Pentaholics 😍 ALL Pentatonix suggestions are fantastic.. can't go wrong with any! There is a cool cover of "Royals" (by Lorde.. it's older) & "Can't Hold Us" (cover by Macklemore * this shows their diversity.. they rap in this one!) There are a few older ones that get overlooked sometimes...a couple of mashups to suggest: "LaLa Latch"; "Where are you now"; "new rules x are you that somebody" ( more recent). They do some amazing collaborations: "Radioactive ☢️" & "Over the River" (with Lindsey Sterling on 🎻); "Wizard of Ahhs" (Todrick Hall featuring Pentatonix.. super fun video!) Looking forward to All of your Pentatonix reaction videos!! Have a great week! Jill
Hello Beesley. I was waiting for you to do this. Excellent reaction. There are many videos of concerts where they do this live. If you want more of the vocal acrobatics of Mitch then listen to 1) Aha (recorded version first) then Aha live in Singapore. 2) Can't Sleep Love (recorded version first) then the live from Popspring 2016. 3) Cover of Gold original version by the artist Kiara, then listen to Pentatonix 4) Attention (recorded version first) then a live after an interview on New York Times Experience.
Totally agree, I love to hear them singing just raw voices, one of my favorites, I say one of because my favorites keep changing, basically I ❤️ ve them all!!!
Fun reaction! Imagine, Sound of Silence and Can You Feel The Love Tonight are all great. It's hard to pick because they have tons of covers and originals to pick from and they are all good.
For a live one, you should do “Aha! Singapore Star Vista.” The video quality isn’t absolutely potato, and the audio quality is decent for a phone recording speakers that blew out from Avi’s voice part of the way through the performance. The reason people swarm to that one, even without spectacular quality, is that it’s a unique version of that song. Mitch went absolutely nuts (even compared to his usual nuttiness (vocal ability)). The music video will give you a clearer chance at understanding the lyrics, but Mitch tamed his voice for the video. In Singapore, he fully unleashed his power and height.
In case nobody else mentioned it, you should also check out Voiceplay, another A Capella group that covered part of this song in their "Queen In 5 Minuets" medley. That are the real showmen, and occasionally women, of the A Capella world.
For live performances you can watch Hallelujah as a comparison, Aha live from Singapore at the Star Vista or their 2016 Popspring performance consisting of 4 songs. All are amazing!
One of their earliest classic performances. It has lasted and lasted as still the best cover of Queen's original and has been blessed by Queen members.
Beesley, 1. I was sick today woke at 11PM for my medications and saw you dropped this. Thank God the Pentaholics were here to drop over 40 comments.....I did warn you on your very first video on them..... 2. I love your reactions in general but you grin ear to ear when you watch them. I have a theory of why you space out the PTX rractions...you cheeks must hurt from smiling so much you need time to recover....😆 2.6 k subs in about 2 weeks.. keep it up man.....I want to see a 100k plaque on your wall......
Try PTX XMAS stuff. Start with 'White Winter Hymnal', 'Carol of the Bells' and 'God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen'. Then for a tear-jerker, react to 'Mary Did You Know'.
I've seen them perform this live in Dallas, and it sounded very much like the recording. Of course, in the recording they do layer their vocals (Kevin can't actually sing and beat box at the same time, no matter how talented he is). But still they were able to get very very close live-it was amazing. If you find this live on RU-vid, it's NOT going to be great because more than likely it will have been filmed/recorded by a smart phone.
Here is a pretty good live version of their cover. It's always hard to get good video from a phone, but here is the link: Pentatonix Performing Bohemian Rhapsody Live November 25 - RU-vid
According to their schedule online. They will be in Manchester in April. Check out Mary, Do You Know? It's the first song from I ever heard. Have been hooked ever since. They were suppose to have a concert at University of Alabama in April '20. Needless to say it was cancelled. Still waiting.
LIVE PERFORMANCES....Gold (Kiiara); Ride (Pilots); Hallelujah (NY Xmas-2015); Pop Spring Concert (2016- 4 songs in video); Coffee in Bed (Jimmy Kimmel show (2020); Attention (GDA Morning Show); AHA Singapore; a number of Xmas shows; et.al. SPECIAL RECOMMENDATIONS - Haley Reinhart singing cover of "Creep" with PostModern Jukebox (probably best female sing on planet, AND MARCIN - probably best guitarist on planet (will definitely knock your socks off)...start with Beethoven's 5th; Kashmir (Led Zeppelin; and Still D.R.E.)
Recommend their I Just Called To Say I Love You and Thank You. For a live performance, check out their four song set at Popspring 2016. Three songs are originals.
Not sure if you will see this comment or not since it was 4 months ago, but I AM BLOWN AWAY. YOU ARE THE FIRST Reactor EVER TO EVEN GUESS MITCH ISNT USING THST MEGAPPONE AND ITS JUST A PROP. I am soooo impressed!!
Gotta do Sound of Silence next. But since Christmas is around the corner, Pentatonix are also known for having a huge catalog of Christmas covers. If you want to react to those for your Christmas specials uploads
Pentatonix is flawless... Except once. They did a concert with a medley of Star Wars, but they had the backing of a band and it seemed to bring down the energy of the performance. It just didn't feel like Pentatonix will all the instruments.
I would say that for a live performance try "Aha! Singapore" but I'm not sure you're quite ready for it, it might break you...what do the rest of y'all think??
The opening harmonies are basic bread and butter for a serious acapella singing group. You *expect* them to knock that part out of the park. If they can't sing harmony better than a rock band, they have no business being an acapella group. The trickier parts (in the context of acapella singing) come later in the song. If you want to be impressed by PTX live, get the back-stage video where they performed Daft Punk for a small audience gathered in a room with no microphones or anything and somebody recorded it with a cellphone.
There is a video where the person producing it puts Pentatonix and Queen side by side (their video performances) and note for note, they are almost identical. Simply stunning.
I saw them perform this live! Mitch was such a performer and Scott was a total rock star for a moment. You can tell they all had fun with one. Lol. Matt was with them by then but it was still great! Definitely try to find a live video. 👍🏽
Mitch is actually using the megaphone. It allows him to distort his voice for the guitar solo. It is still acapella, he is still just using his voice. The megaphone does not qualify as a musical instrument. It's not just for show.
The pictures of the stars at the end is said to be a homage to Brian May, who recently got his doctorate degree in Astrophysics. So now al four l Queen members have a Doctors degree. Quite astonishing 🙏
Yes, the megaphone is a clever. prop. There appears to be some type of board distortion applied to Mitch's voice in studio. He nails the solo, with some distortion applied for effect.
It's a megaphone, used to get people's attention that are farther away, it amplifies your voice and gives it a different sound. Mitch doesn't use it during their concerts. It's his voice. If you listen to it a few times, it shows him using the megaphone, in the end when you hear it and can't see it, I feel that is his voice only because they sound very different. Adding, to me, my opinion only.
I do not know if you like suggested videos to react to. There is one by Home Free called a Southerner in the snow, maybe you and Millie would enjoy resting to it.
The workings of the megaphone was removed. That is Mitch sounding out the guitar solo amplified by the cone of course. Would it have been cheating if it were real? Probably . . . They do run synths in some songs. As tribute to the original but I would cut them some slack on strict interpretations of a Capella. Wait until you hear some of their instrumentations. 😄 7:30 They start their European Tour the first of the year. I won't make any suggestions what to do next. I'm sure their other fans will comment what to do next.
I feel sooooo bad that they canceled there tour over there bc of the pandemic. But for me here I hope they somehow figure out a tour in the USA so I can go live
