Talking about diversity, check out their cover of John Lennon's "Imagine". The song is beautiful to begin with, but the message in the video is even more beautiful - plus you'll get to see Kevin (the beatboxer) sing, too. And no, there is no battle between Pentatonix and Home Free. Most of us love both groups.
Me: eating popcorn waiting for him to come out of his seat & get Mitch slapped! Suddenly: Orange juice everywhere! Yay! And if you promise to where headphones I suggest their 90s Dance Medley next! Orange juice parade honey!
Um, sweetie, Pentatonix, were MENTORS to Home free when they were on the Sing Off, have won 3 Grammys & collabbed with everyone from Jason Derulo & Stevie Wonder to Dolly Parton. I believe they have close to 170 recorded songs-covers & originals-been together 10 years, done ridiculous amounts of sold out world tours, have topped the Billboards & have over 19 million subscribers! I don't think they need to fill anyone's shoes😉 But you didn't know so you get a pass! You're reactions are fantastic as usual! Hope you continue down this rabbit hole! P.S. Seriously, to truly hear the a cappella brilliance, try headphones at least once-it's so much better! You'll have goosebumps under your toenails!
@@ABtheKreator Gotcha! A lot of content creators have that problem too... I'm sure a bunch of Pentaholics have mentioned the same thing, so I'm sorry if we're all saying "headphones!" but, um, when you do find some, maybe get a REALLY long cord so you don't get hurt when something gets you out of your seat!🤭
@@megandelynn6114 Home Free started in 2000 and Pentatonix started in 2011. Tim Foust and Avi Kaplan are friends. Avi sang with Home Free in Ring Of Fire and has been featured in other videos of theirs not singing. I agree bass headphones are needed to fully enjoy Home Free and Pentatonix. You can hear so much more from not only from the bass but the harmonies with a good set of headphones.
Perfect Mitch face. You know, some of us watch just so we can see the silly faces first timers make when they first hear our wonderful Mitch hit those octaves. That voice is gifted and it's so sweetly set off by Avi's smooth bass. I don't think Mitch minds if you call him a him or a her so don't stress it.
@@margaretwinters6234 Oh he didn't loose his hair, he shaved it off. There's a clip out there somewhere were he's walking by with hair clippers and says something along the line of 'Now we're going to see if this is a good idea or I'm making a huge mistake'. Then there are others with Scot teasing him about the "Mistake" and keeping hair clippers away from Mitch.
Mitch takes being mistaken as a female vocalist as a compliment. Didn't know it was possible to go that high? You haven't even seen 😄 Our guy hit a belted C5 on America's Got Talent last night, and that's just in his chest voice. I think his highest note recorded for an album so far is a Bb5. Welcome to Pentatonix! Other videos often used as the introductory package are Daft Punk, Sound of Silence, Imagine, Mad World and Amazing Grace. I also recommend the Evolution of medleys - they record them as live one-takes. Evolution of Rihanna and Ariana Grande have the current bass (Matt Sallee 2017+), Evolution of Music, Michael Jackson and Beyoncé have Avi (2011-2017). One album 😄 ...200+ songs. Looking forward to the ride!
I knew you would love it. I couldn't wait to see you hear Mitch (the high tenor) for the first time. And yes, he's a guy. Just dive head first into ANY of their music. There just isn't a bad PTX song. They've been together 10 years so there's LOTS to choose from. And they do wonderful Christmas music. They've won Grammys for Daft Punk medley, Jolene (with Dolly Parton) and Dance of the Sugarplum Fairies.
"Brother in the hat, talk to me." Then the Mitch slap. Classic. BTW, no battle. You will find that most Pentaholics are also Home Fries. We just love acapella done extraordinarily well. Great reaction. Some of the great Pentatonix videos include Sound of Silence, Imagine, Amazing Grace, Bohemian Rhapsody and their Daft Punk Medley (Grammy winner), but you really can't go wrong with anything they do.
@@ABtheKreator It will *definitely* be a fun ride. They have put out tons and tons of amazing music and the Pentaholics LIVE for reactions. (Starting down the PTX road is a great way to boost your subscribers.)
Settling in with popcorn. This is gonna be epic. Edit to add: it was great! Orange juice for everyone! Keep going like this and you'll be a Pentaholic as well as a Home Fry. Top recommendations are usually Sound of Silence, Bohemian Rhapsody and Imagine. I also really like their Evolution medleys -- Evolution of Michael Jackson, Evolution of Rihanna, Evolution of Beyonce, etc.
Well, you started with the song I think of as their masterpiece. They are incredibly talented, and have many great songs. But this one is just... special. Also great: Imagine, Sound of Silence, Amazing Grac..e
Your expressions are unparalleled, I’ve never seen so many Mitch Faces on the same face! Be careful though, if you start on PTX you may get too many subs, like me. Daft Punk was their first Grammy, Bohemian Rhapsody SHOULD have won another, Sound of Silence, Amazing Grace, just to name a few. You won’t be sorry you explored this superhuman/angelic group!
You have a choice you can go back to the very beginning and watch them on season 3 of The Sing Off or check out their covers Imagine, Can't Hold Us, Bohemian Rhapsody, No, Problem, Aha, Can't Help Falling in Love, Say Something, Cheerleader and I Need Your Love. Originals Can't Sleep Love, Sing, Love Again, Cracked, Water, Run to You, Standing By, Light in the Hallway, and their Evolution of ( my 2 favorites are Evolution of Music and Evolution of Michael Jackson.) Their 3 Grammy winning performances Daft Punk, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy ( a song with no words done by a group with no instruments.) and Jolene. And of course there is their Christmas music which is all amazing.
"When she starts singing, orange juice from the heavens!" GREAT LINE!! I hope Kirstie hears that at some point, she would LOVE it!! Not only an angelic voice, but one of the sweetest and most genuine people in the world. In fact, they ALL are some of the most humble and down to earth people you could ever meet. And congratulations on your first Mitch-Slap! Yes, he is an ultra-rare contra-tenor. They've been around for ten years now, three Grammy Awards, nine full albums, six EPs, many MANY videos, multi-platinum album sales (including two Billboard #1s), and sold out world tours. There's no battle between them and Home Free...in fact both groups are good friends with each other. This is a DEEP rabbit hole, but one that is well worth the deep dive. Enjoy the ride!
Now you have to check out Home Free's "Ring of Fire" they did with Avi Kaplan (the guy in the beanie) it's AMAZING to hear both him and Tim Foust together, the level of bass in that song is just off the charts
This group and Home Free came were discovered by the same television show, the Sing-Off which aired on nbc. They were different seasons but they were both winners. ❤️
Shortly before he passed, Leonard Cohen the gentleman who wrote the song, heard Pentatonix's cover of Hallelujah. He said it was the best cover of his song he had ever heard.. HEADPHONES 🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧
"They got a whole album out? That's means we got plenty of music to listen to" I think they're on 15 albums out now? You got 10+years of music to listen to. 😂😂
BOOM! You have now been MITCH SLAPPED! I loved the reaction to Kirstins voice but said to self brother you haven't heard Mitch yet, and then the priceless reaction! Give more of PTXs music a listen to have your mind blown as to what these people with voices like Angels can sing!
The Pentatonix members met approximately 24 hours before they sang on a televised singing competition called the Sing Off. They were in season 3 the season before Home Free and they won. The Pentatonix band and Home Free members are friends. In fact Beanie guy who is a basso profundo , Avi (pronounced Ah-vee) Kaplan is featured on a Home Free performance of Ring of Fire. He lives in Nashville now as does Tim Faust and has s super solo career. He and Tim are friends. Pentatonix won 3 Grammy awards in their earlier years. Daft Punk was the first Grammy win. Please react to that. It is entirely different and was filmed in Avi and Kevin Olusola's(beat boxer) apartment. They are all musical geniuses and they always amaze. You can see their live performance of Hallelujah at the following: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-haFHrfmfHbc.html Perfection. I hope you will continue down the PTX rabbit hole. the fans (Pentaholics) will support you all the way.
Just a tiny correction, the core three singers, Scott, Mitch and Kirstie grew up singing together in kids musical theater and high school choir and debuted with a cover of Telephone during a high school concert.
I suggest HEADPHONES whenever listening to A Capella music!!PTX,Home Free,Voiceplay,The Bass Gang,etc...the sound is way more magical!!😄also,I recommend PTX doing the Daft Punk medley and one of their originals Love Again.you'll LOVE them...and actually every song they do you will absolutely LOVE!!😄also,Imagine cover, and Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy!!! Have fun and welcome to the fold!!✌
Time for the trifecta. Time for VoicePlay but can I request that you wait till October and react to "Oogie Boogie Song" cover from the Nightmare Before Christmas! Can't wait!!! Oh and dont worry. There's no beef. The a capella groups actually get along and you'll even see crossovers were members from one will work with the other group. Nothing but love here.
more PTX, please!! check out their covers of Amazing Grace, Imagine, Bohemian Rhapsody, Daft Punk, Say Something, Evolution of Michael Jackson... you will not be disappointed :)
PTX evolution videos... all of them.... They are all one take live.... the transitions are flawless on all of them. But I know you will flip for Evolution Of Michael Jackson by PTX..... Do it. Btw.... way more than one album... not to mention 3 Grammy wins! PTX, is acapella! They have four originals too.... very versatile group. From "Mary Did you Know" to Macklemores "can't hold us"..... Bruh... you buckle in.... you just found yourself in the PTX "Rabbit Hole"... and going down it... it's so good. Do it! 🤙🏽
You should react to their live performance of “Hallelujah” from their Christmas special. They all sound the same as, if not better than, they do in this video.
Loved this reaction! I'm an old codger and set in my ways, so it took awhile before I went with headphones, and, did it ever make a difference! I'm guessing I was missing about 20% of the sound without them. Home Free won the Sing-Off in 2012, and Pentatonix won the year before, and there is only respect for each other as well as with other groups in the a cappella community, so no need to worry about who is better...most of us enjoy them all.
I love when a reactor discovers PTX and then we get a whole flurry of new reactions. Please consider doing their whole season on THE Sing Off, it’s amazing that they were creating themselves before our eyes. 3 of them had known each other for years but the group was created to compete on the show and met just in time fir auditions. They had not performed anywhere until the show started. (In the interview spots they act like they have been a group, but that was just the scripting)
Lol! The top A Capella groups have a way of shattering expectations, so you’re in good company. To be fair, while there are no bad Pentatonix songs, this is one of their best.
PTX has been around 10 years! Headphones are a MUST... Thousands of Pentaholics are not wrong! They do covers and originals. Some suggestions: - Amazing Grace/My Chains Are Gone - Daft Punk - Imagine - Sing - New Rules x Are You That Somebody - Sound of Silence - Say Something - Coffee in Bed - Can You Feel the Love Tonight - Seasons of Love
Beat Boxer is Kevin Olusola. He is a Yale graduate, Cello and trombone player and singer. The Girl is Kirstie, she is Latina. The second soloist is Avi Kaplan. He is an operatically trained Basso Profundo, prolific song writer, plays multiple instruments and is no longer with the group. He is Jewish. Many say he looks like Jesus in the video I posted below. Here is something you can listen to that Kevin, also known as KO has done in solo work. (20529) Down (Marian Hill KOver) - Kevin Olusola - RU-vid Here is Avi performing some of his solo work. (20529) Avi Kaplan - Change on the Rise (Official Music Video) - RU-vid
Sorry, gotta correct you regarding Kevin - I don't think he plays trombone, but he does play concert quality saxophone (and has played Carnegie Hall when he was 17) a well as Cello and Cello-boxing. He was a pre-med student before joining PTX and is fluent in Mandarin - basically he's a classic over-achiever and we love him for it! LOL!
The guy in the hat with the sonic voice is Mitch. To really appreciate his skill you need to listen to their cover of "Bohemian Rhapsody". All are excellent singers and produce some truly beautiful music. Two of my favorites are "Mary, did you know"and "Cheerleader".
PTX and Home Free are friends, no rivalry. Avi, the guy in the beanie (who left in 2017) did Ring Of Fire with Home Free. PTX is the most popular acapella group in the world, they have three grammies and eleven platinum albums. Pentaholics will come if you keep reacting. The guy with the high voice is a legend, his name is Mitch.
Congratulations, you just lost your pentavirginity. You also got Mitch slapped, hard core. Yes, Kirstie is the only female, but Mitch and Scott both say that they are her girls.
You have been Mitch slapped. I don’t know about shattering glass, but Avi the Bass has blown out speakers. They have a couple of hundred songs over their ten year career. Avi was the Bass from 2011 to 2017 when me was replaced by Matt. That has been the only member change. Mitch and Kirstin change their looks often and that confuses many reactors. Recommend their Daft Punk (medley), Amazing Grace,Sound Of Silence, and 90s Dance Medley. However, all of their music is great.
I think your confused Pentatonix set the Standard....with their 3 Grammy's....homefree does their thing, but they came later, and they don't set the standard. Oh btw nice "Mitchslap"! lol PTX has like 287 video's in their catalogue......PTX can hum better than most groups can sing. There are 2 Homefree songs that I like, the "One Voice colab with Billy Gilman" and the Lee Greenwood/Military band colab for "God Bless the USA." Other than that I don't listen to much Homefree, they're pretty "one note" so to speak and just do covers of country and gospel songs. I enjoy PTX's diversity and the fact that they can sing anything and everything. Hell they could sing the phonebook and I'd listen with a big smile plastered on my face!!!!
Nah, no battle. Pentaholics and HomeFries usually love both bands and are PentaFries. Are you? I am 💚 That was a fantastic reaction, so I'm subbing in hopes of more more more! Love to hear you react to Pentatonix's first grammy winning arrangement, Daft Punk Medley. It's amazing. And I'd also love to see a reaction to Hillbilly Bone by Home Free.
Because you mentioned the diversity I think you should check out their cover of imagine. You learn even more about their diversity. And yes there is one female, Mitch is a guy.
I love a good Mitch slap !! LOL LOL LOL. Love the fact that Kirstin really knows how to hold her own and shine through all the guys voices. But seriously LEARN THE NAMES.
I love Pentatonix and I love your reaction to this song. Now, that being said, if you want to hear a little slice of Heaven listen to Home Free - How Great Thou Art. Please give it a listen, I don't think you will be disappointed.
You absolutely must react to their "Amazing Grace" It is a spiritual experience. There was a change in members between Hallelujah and Amazing Grace. The bass in the group, Avi (guy with the beanie and beard) left the group and Matt joined (more diversity, yay).
You're making your way through the acappella rabbit hole. The other quintet you need to check out is Voiceplay, and then if you REALLY want diversity, beautiful voices, glorious arrangements and universal application of orange juice, you gotta see the acappella ensemble Voctave.
Pentatonix are THE A Capella group. And, beg borrow or steal headphones to appreciate a Capella. Please. You miss out, otherwise. Loved the Mitch slap, here. Get on board, 10 years of catch up to do.
To be honest, I think most of us like Home Free, Pentatonix, Voiceplay and Voctave pretty well, as most of us just enjoy good A Capella. Far be it for me to speak for everyone, but it's the general vibe. Hate to send you right there but gonna do it anyways... Amazing Grace. Wanna talk about angels?
I've never heard of Voctave. What should I try first? Home Free is my favorite but I do love Pentatonix. I've not been blown away by Voiceplay yet but I'm still going to keep trying them out.
There is at least one person, me, who doesn't even care for acapella music but somehow found Pentatonix and considers them one of my favorite few groups/musicians. I thought the music in "Pitch Perfect" was merely ok, but PTX is something entirely different. I'll give a nod to Home Free, they put a different spin on this genre of music too.
@@robertvirnig638 well maybe I should thus correct and say the vibe is indifference and acceptance if opinions differ, and replace A Capella with good music. 🙂
The guy with the beard is Avi, He Left the group to work on his solo career and he was replaced with another member. you should look up allice in wonderland Penitoinix and if your looking for more Christmas music by them check out Marry Did you know. they also did a cover to Bohemian Rhapsody & The sound of Silence. You can look up Avi Kaplan Change is on the Rise.
Haha! Yes! Mitch slap for the win! And yet again welcome to the world of acapella! Their version of Amazing Grace (my chains are gone) is breath taking featuring their new bass Matt and Kevin (the beatboxer) sings in it too
this group was my intro into the world of acapella - I love them, but Home Free.. is the winner... Avi, their bass sing actually does a song with Home Free, Ring of Fire.
There are a lot of songs to choose from and a lot of them have been mentioned in comments, but must do and Early one for them Daft Punk! Also Can’t hold us just shows a different style and how diverse the music this group can do!!!! Don’t skip out on looking up some of their solo stuff like KO’s KOver of Down!
One of the best mitch slap reaactions:) fun too.. you have a big hole to follow, because I have about 20 favourites of theirs, you have some beauty coming watching Pentatonix
Oh, you really need to listen to them with earphones. It's so rich and beautiful. Their version of Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone) is their best yet in my opinion.
The members are Scott (1st singer), Avi (2nd), Kirstie [sounds like thirsty] (3rd), Mitch [ that was not even close to how high he can sing] (4th), and Kevin is the beatboxer/ cello-boxer. He plays the cello while beatboxing.
He also have a beautiful tenor voice we only get to enjoy occasionally as he is needed for his incredible beat-boxing ability. He and the base always work and in hand to provide a solid foundation for all their music. In more recent videos, you will see Matt instead of Avi who left the group amicably in 2017 to help his sick mother and a strong need to slow down. (This group really knows how to work!!!) They are all still friends and he helped them find Matt. Adding: many reactors are confused by how much Mitch and Kristie tend to change their looks but no matter how different they appear, they are always the same members. The only change has been with the Bass singer.
Dude.......LOOK UP STRAIGHT NO CHASER!!!! Seriously! You want to have your mind melted and hear a group that will put everyone else to shame? Straight No Chaser!
