Avi (he was the one with the beard and beanie in Hallelujah) left the group in 2017, for personal reasons. The new bass is Matt Sallee, the guy in the white jacket. Everyone else has been with the group since the beginning. Mitch (guy with the big hat) is the guy here in all black. Kirstie was blonde in the first video, she changes her hair pretty much every video (as does Mitch). They both change their looks often to the point you wonder if it’s them. The tall blonde guy is Scott and the amazing beatboxer is Kevin, a musical genius.
Actually, when they first started out it was just Scott, Mitch and Kirstie as a trio. Friends from school days. They added Avi and Kevin when they tried out for that singing contest.
@@michellebarry1555 obviously not. That's why I said "when they first started out", which I meant as a singing group. As a matter of fact, I specifically said "trio". They added the other 2 later and became the Pentatonix. The 3 started together but needed a fuller sound for the competition. Having mere days to rehearse before the first show. It would be kinda dumb to name a trio something meaning 5.
@@ABtheKreator they have 3. Daft Punk medley, Dance of the Sugarplum Fairies, Jolene with Dolly Parton. They got their start on a competition show "The Sing Off" (season 3 - which they won). If you have time you should give it a look to see how far they've come. They were insanely talented even then.
@@ABtheKreator And Home Free are good friends with PTX. They won season 4 of the Sing Off the year after PTX. Also Home Free "Ring of Fire" features Avi Kaplan the one member of PTX that left.
@@ABtheKreator and that was just their first Grammy. Their second was a song with no words or instruments. And their THIRD they teamed up with Dolly Parton. 3 nominations 3 Grammys
I know everyone is telling you stuff and yes Matt the new black guy replaced Avi the bass with the beard and beanie, and yes Mitch was the sombrero guy....I know your working your way through your list...make sure Imagine and Bohemiam Rapsody (Mitch does an electric guitar)...now your a Home Fry and a Pentaholic!
Pentatonix 1. Bohemian Rhapsody ( they made their voices sound like several instruments a must see. It really is a must watch) 2. Daft Punk ( won first Grammy) 3. Amazing Grace 4. 90s Medley Kevin Olusola the beatboxer or creator of celloboxing ( KO from PTX) 1. Down ( he was a one man band)
If you have to ask if that's Mitch, then it's Mitch. :) Avi left the group amicably in 2017 for personal reasons. (There's a RU-vid video where he announces it to fans. If you watch it, have tissues. It rips your heart out, stomps that thing until it's ragged, and then stuffs in back in your chest. They're all crying) He has a beautiful solo career, he's happy and he couldn't sound more amazing. So, pretty much any video 2017 and before will have Avi, after that will have Matt. Now Matt Sallee...This man has sunshine smiles for days that light up the whole room. He's a giant ball of happiness that when he sings you just melt. He has a beautiful voice and is a great fit for PTX and where they are taking their music. Everyone else, Scott (tall blonde drink of water), Kirstin (Queen), Mitch (Alien Angel), Kevin (Ridic talent, new daddy) are all the same. I enjoy your reactions so much, keep going down that rabbit hole!
Welcome to the PTX rabbithole! its a deep one. New Rules x Are you that somebody is my personal favorite, but Amazing Grace, the 90s Dance Medley, Can't Hold Us, Havana, and so many more are all amazing
Two of my favorite Mitch moments in this song. First, Mitch seamlessly picks up the melody briefly on Matt's verse when it goes out of Matt's range. Second, Mitch takes a higher harmony in Kirstin's verse.
Love your reaction! But you have to wear headphones because if you think they sound good now, you are not going to believe your ears. Can't wait for your next reaction, you crack me up.
What makes PTX great is that it’s about the vocals and nothing else. Every single person regardless of gender, color, religion or sexual orientation, is valued because they have a gift and fits in with this particular group. I wish the world worker this way.
If you ever have to ask, Is that Mitch? (Sombrero hat guy) the answer is yes! He changes his look a lot. Avi (the beard and beanie guy) left the group amicably and was replaced by Matt (guy on the left). That’s the only line up change! Awesome reaction!
Me spending another day scrolling through watching PTX Reaction videos...Sees a reactor in a Mahomes Jersey!!! Instantly clicks as excited of 2 Fandom colliding. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 But seriously, your reactions are AWESOME. Love love love. You have a ton of PTX suggestions which are all awesome. I would also recommend their live cover of Aha! From Singapore. It is incredible, Especially Avi and Mitch!!!!
Listen to imagine by PTX. They are so amazing. Imagine is a cover originally sang by John Linnon , they kill it baby. Also. Mary did you know, another phenomenal performance
The Sounds of Silence is an old later 70's song by Simon and Garfunkel. They are speaking of a vision of a nuclear explosion, with tens of thousands walking around aimlessly, not able to speak, hearing but not listening. Writing songs that no one will ever share. Then the writings on the subway walls and tenement halls, of people warning them not to make this mistake again, if anyone ever finds the writings. Maybe future archaeologists finding the writings and say that they are Prophets. Pentatonix has taken a song of importance from a long time ago, and shaped it for a new generation that will face the same kinds of fears and warnings as a leader of one country is testing long range missiles. So right for this era. I remember the duck and cover exercises in primary school, that would protect us from exploding glass from school windows, or going blind from seeing a nuclear explosion. Remembering going under our school desks and kneeling in a ball with our arms over our faces, still brings me chills. Hallelujah was one of their first songs. After that Avi Kaplan left to pursue his own career ( catch him in " Times for a change " about the Underground Railroad ), then Scott is the opening singer, Kirsten is the woman, Mitch is the high voice who wore the hat in Hallelujah, Kevin is the beatboxer. When Avi left, he handpicked Matt to take his place. Matt and Scott both have a wide range in vocals. Even Kirsten has several vocal ranges. Kevin kills with his beatboxing.
Another great performance is their Amazing Grace. You will encounter their wall of sound and another Kirstin moment. Tall Guy (Scott), Little Momma (Kirstin), and Sombrero Guy (Mitch) have been singing together since high school as The Trio. They picked up the original Bass, Avi and the Beatboxer, Kevin to form Pentatonix 10 years ago. They know each other’s singing abilities so well.
Seriously enjoy your reactions to these videos , Bad day at work just pull up ABtheKreator and the day gets better . Your pure and honest face expression are the best .Keep up the good work!!
There has only been one member change in their group since they formed Avi, their original base, left for personal reasons. It was very amicable. He was the guy with the beard and beanie in Hallelujah. Mitch, the one in the “sombrero” is the one in all black in this song. Kirstie is the original girl, just dark hair. Matt, white jacket, replaced Avi. Scott, tall blond, is original as well. They formed 10years ago. You have a lot of catching up to do. The fans, pentaholics, will be with you for your journey down the rabbit hole. Great reaction.
I appreciate this acapella cover of Simon & Garfunkel's Sound of Silence, originally recorded in the 60's. The group HAS changed. BTW, "penta" means 5 - the number of members in the group, hence the name Pentatonix (Five Tones).
Kirstin changes hair style and color regularly. Mitch, counter tenor with the mullet, has been called a human chameleon. Tall blond baritone is Scott, along with Mitch and Kirstin, one of the originals. Also original, Kevin is the Renaissance man - beatbox, cello, tenor, speaks Mandarin,, graduated from Yale, accepted in med school, only married member, and became a father this year. Matt is the newest member. Officially added in 2018, bass with baritone ability. Avi Kaplan, beard and a beanie, basso profundo, trained for opera, original member 2011-2017, left for health problems in his family and inability to continue their brutal touring schedule.
Avi was wearing a beanie with long hair in the last video, he left the group and the second "you" is Matt. He took over for Avi. Sombrero is named Mitch and he was in this yes, he was the one with the mullet. Scott is the tall blonde and Kirstie, rhymes with thirsty is "little momma" and Kevin is the beatboxer.
Great reaction but you’d appreciate their talent even more with headphones! It really makes a big difference especially for the bass & percussion! I see others have made great song suggestions & filled you in on who the members are so I’ll leave that be. Welcome to the PTX rabbit hole! Looking forward to the journey with you.
Do their Mary did you know? Often used as a Christmas song but was written by Christian comedian Mark Lawry! Love your awesome reactions!! Sounds of Silence is written by Paul Simon 50 years ago! Check out his album Gra!celand! African artists are his backup. React to Diamonds on the Soles of HervShows! Get the LIVE PERFORMANCE!! WILL BLOW YOUR MIND!! STAY SAFE!!!
Here is the deal… In Hallelujah their bass singer was Avi. He was with the group for about 6 years. He left and they replaced him with Matt. Ames are left to right… Matt, Kirstie, Scott, Mitch and Kevin. Watch their journey on The Sing Off
Oh my gosh that was so fun to watch. You're a gem of a human and I appreciate you sharing the joy. Keep going with Pentatonix. There's no wrong choice with them.
Great reaction! Don't be too hard on yourself for having trouble figuring out who is who. There are usually several months between each new release and the previous recording. Besides the time that passes between releases, I have decided they are all chameleons that change their look/persona for each song (like a costume). Keep reacting to Pentatonix and before long you will be able to recognize them strictly by their voices, even though each of them have ridiculous vocal range and tone. I look forward to seeing more of your reaction videos.
"The Sound of Silence" was originally written/performed by Paul Simon and Art Garfunkle in 1963 and was given a new voice recently by David Draiman/Disturbed and PTX.
OMG....ABK...the "Sound of Silence " is a song written by Paul Simon from the duo Simon and Garfunkle...way back in the 70's.....Elvis does a Tremendous version (the best in my opinion as I have been an Elvis fan for 60 years)...This version is fabulous as, again, it is a cappella....which makes it so unique. Bonsoir mon Chère.....je part pour dormire........😴😴😴
Pentatonix doesnt do covers they do upgrades 😁 When you lissen to Pentatonix you need to use headphones. Put them on and lissen to their songs again and you will understand
The Sounds of Silence was written in 1964 by Paul Simon. Simon and Garfunkel recorded it in 1965. The words are still relevant today. Avi Kaplan, the guy with the beard who sang bass left and was replaced by Matt Frei, the bass singer with the white jacket.
Sound of Silence was originally done by Simon and Garfunkel, back in the 1960's. The first singer is a lead as well as baritone. he covers bass when the bass singer takes the lead. Sombrero guy is right beside the black guy on the end. The black guy in the white jacket is matt, the new bass singer.
As others have pointed out, Matt Sallee (white jacket) is the only new member, replacing Avi Kaplan (dark beard, long hair, beanie) from Hallelujah in late 2017...Avi left for personal reasons and now has a successful solo career. Mitch Grassi (sombrero guy) is the guy you thought he might be early in the video...he changes his looks constantly. Kirstie Maldonado (Little Mama...i LOVED that description) is the same also...she changes her hair color a lot, but it's always her. Scott Hoying (tall blonde guy) and Kevin Olusola (beatboxer) maintain a fairly consistent look thru the years.
Love the energy on this one. Hope you keep going down the Pentatonix rabbit hole! They do some great stuff with the stereo sometimes, and the bass kicks when you are listening on headphones. hint! Avi, the white bass singer got replaced by Matt, the darker bass. Only change they have done since the start. Hat man and Kirsty often change up the looks.😁😁😎
Love your reaction you're so funny especially the part with the brothers ahah your confusion is hella adorable! Yes Kirstie aka lil mama for you ahah is phenomenal in this one Her voice just hit you deep in your soul. She's my favorite. You might one to listen Say something if you're an emotional one and New rules/are you that somebody. This group handles mashups like no one in this planet. Great reaction and new subscriber for sure.
Just subcribed, loved your reaction to These 5, super stars! Welcome down the ravit hole that is PTX. You, if you havent, pls react to their "Imagine", "Mary did you know", and if you truly love them, Mitch and Scott have their own you tube channel called "Superfruit"! Watch Superfruits, "Frozen Medley", "the Promise" , " Defying Gravity ". These twi are so funny! And terrific singers! Can't wait to hear more of you reacting to them. Couldn't find the Home Free videos you have done, if you haven't, pls do "Country Roads" , and "Ring of Fire" , and there is another one, real title is not coming to me, but it has a line" God Bless the USA. So happy i found you, pls make an older lady 74, happy!!! Vickie from Philly
This song is from Simon & Garfunkle late 60's early 70's. It was originally written as a protest song warning us to join together in one voice and not be silenced. Now the song has returned and Pentatonix is re-visiting that warning. However, if you want a true rendition of the song that speaks volumes in todays sense, try listening to Disturbed's version. Their cover was so powerful that Paul Simon gave them the song. David Draiman does it like no one else can. PEACE!!!!!
I grew up listening to this song and thought that no one would ever sing it as well as Simon & Garfunkel...absolutely hated every cover until I heard Disturbed sing it. Never thought I'd love another cover...I was wrong. This version is AMAZING!!
I know...it can confusing to a Pentaholic in training. The man with the sombrero is Mitch. He changes his look a lot. It's kind of a trademark. As far as member changes go, there has only been one. Given that we Pentaholics like to educate people, I will tell you again. Avi Kaplan (bass / baritone / overtone singing) was the bearded dude in HALLELUJAH. He left the group in 2017 / 2018 and helped the band find a new bass: Matt Salee, the other black guy. Avi basically hand picked Matt to replace him.
Their covers are incredible and their originals are phenomenal as well! Matt (bass) replaced Avi (bass with beard in Hallelujah) in 2017 (departure was amiable).. you've got 10 years worth of their music to explore.. all of it wonderful! I agree with all the suggestions but didn't see CAN YOU HEAR THE LOVE TONIGHT and GOLD to just name a couple and then there's their last album.... 90's DANCE MEDLEY for one.. the list seems endless.
If you are looking for another great a capella group to watch, you should check out Voctave. They have 11 members and sound like a full blown choir. Their Disney Love Medley features Kirstin from Pentatonix, but you really can’t go wrong with any of their songs.
You're getting there doll & yes that was sombrero guy! Others Will explain about Avi/Matt. I definitely suggest Evolution of Michael Jackson next-Orange juice City honey! Love ya!
Scott used to be the bass when they were a trio. They all went to school together, then added a true bass and a beat boxer when they tried out for a accapella singing contest, which they won I believe.
LOVE your reaction. One of the best ways to build your subscribers is watching Pentantonics videos. We Pentaholics love to watch newbies react and fall in love. Religious-Amazing Grace, Original-Love Again or Daft Punk, Country-Jolene, Rock-Bohemian Rhapsody, “Instrumental”-Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies, Blues- Let’s Get It On from the Sing-Off where Pentatonix was created. The Grammies were for Daft Punk, Sugarplum and Jolene with Dolly.
