Pentatonix is the best at what they do, and they are genuinely kind, warm hearted people who clearly love each other. It shows in everything they do. This song is a classic and has been covered by many artists - but this version is a standout - they do it live and the live versions are also outstanding.

There is something so special about their ability, to tell the songs story, allowing us to listen with a new perspective, and hear & feel emotions, we may not have heard from the original artist 💖💖💖 Not only their voices, but their delivery is also their gift! *IMO, no other group, can build up a song, like Pentatonix* They are masters at pulling on our emotions!!! 💗💗💗💗💗💗 *They are individually so talented, however, when put together, it is truly magical* 💗💗

"Hallelujah" was written by Leonard Cohen. Despite the name it isn't actually a religious song; it's about love that goes wrong, for whatever reason. Cohen seems to have written about forty verses, but only released seven, of which these four are the ones most frequently covered. The cover that you had heard before was probably by either Rufus Wainwright or Jeff Buckley. Many people first heard it when watching _Shrek,_ which included Rufus Wainwright's recordig of it.

@@margretrosenberg420Dude...half the song is the story of King David and Bathsheba. It is a religious song.
@margretrosenberg420
@margretrosenberg420 10 месяцев назад
@@troymash8109 No, one half of one verse is a reference to the story of David and Bathsheba, not half the song. In no way does it actually TELL the story or it would also mention David's murder of Bathsheba's husband. Look, yes, it REFERS to 2 Bible stories; it doesn't TELL the stories. Combine that with the first half of the first verse and you have 6 lines that can be fairly characterized as "religious." That's less than half of the song. The song is talking about sexual relationships that go wrong somehow. It uses two examples from the Bible. That doesn't make it a religious song any more than the fact that Pentatonix put it on a Christmas album makes it a Christmas song. If you truly think this is a religious song, what is the message you think it's trying to convey?
@RamenNoodle1985
@RamenNoodle1985 9 месяцев назад
@@troymash8109bruh, there's over 70 verses to this song. Only 2 reference biblical stories. Leonard Cohen, the man who wrote it said (before his death) that it's not a religious song, it's about love lost and hearbreak. But yeah, pretend like you know more about the song than the guy who actually wrote it 🙄

Leonard Cohen wrote Hallelujah over a 30 year period. He kept adding lyrics after it was recorded and he finally ended up with almost 100 verses to the song. The same 3 or 4 verses are usually used by everyone who covers the song. It's never been sung in any church to my knowledge. Leonard heard this version before he died in 2016. He liked it very much.

Great reaction!! This is my go to a capella group! They're 3 Grammy winners, have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, practically OWN christmas with 8 Christmas albums, have collab's with Jennifer Hudson, Stevie Wonder, Lindsey Stirling, and Jason Derulo. They're known worldwide, and especially in Japan. The members: 1st singer: Scott Hoying, baritone. Scott has a massive vocal range, just like the rest of the group...about 5 octaves big. He sings the bass vocals when the bass sings lead or a verse. 2nd singer: Avi Kaplan, bass. Technically, Avi is a basso profundo...he's an opera trained bass with vocals so low, he breaks speakers...the group had to eventually travel with their own speakers because of that. Avi left the group amicably in 2017 for personal reasons and now enjoys a great solo career. 3rd singer: Kirstin ( Kirstie) Maldonado, mezzo soprano/alto soprano. Kirstie has a lovely bright voice and great belting abilities.She and the next member are like chameleons, both are fashion marvens and constantly change their looks, hair colours and lengths 4th singer: Mitch Grassi, counter tenor. Mitch has one of the few truly high pitched vocals in the world. He and Kirstie can reach all the way into whistle notes and 6th octave. Like Kirstie, Mitch changes his looks often, so sometimes when unfamiliar reactors see the group, they don't recognize the singers....but they're still Mitch and Kirstie. 5th member: Kevin Olusola, tenor, beatboxer, cellist. Kevin is a genius...really. He graduated pre-med just before making the decision to join Pentatonix. They had contacted him after seeing a video of him beatboxing WHILE playing the cello...perfectly. They wanted him to join them to enter a TV show competition for a Capella groups. He said yes...and they won...and are still together 12 years later. Kevin also speaks several languages including Mandarin, play sax and piano, helps all of the group with songwriting, has perfect pitch and has a really infectious laugh. Some recommendations: Bohemian Rhapsody, 90's Dance medley, Daft Punk medley, Evolution of Michael Jackson, Mad World, Love Again (original,) Run To You ( original), Imagine, When The Party's Over, Attention. Say Something.

Leonard Cohen sings the version I’m familiar with. That may be the one you heard. According to Google: Hallelujah" is a song written by Canadian singer Leonard Cohen, originally released on his album Various Positions (1984). Achieving little initial success, the song found greater popular acclaim through a new version recorded by John Cale in 1991.

Pentatonix They won The Sing Off in 2011. They made a guest starring appearance on America′s Got Talent as non−competitors a couple of years after that. The founding members are:- Scott Hoying (tall blond guy, natural baritone but has an impressive five−to−six octave range, can go all the way up to high tenor and down to bass, sings the bass lines when the usual bass singer takes the lead); Kirstin "Kirstie" (Rhymes with "Thirsty") Maldonado (the only female member, natural mezzo soprano, but can go down to low alto and as high as upper soprano, also can sing in whistle notes that are off the scale); For a time in 2018 between the group’s tours, had the female lead on Broadway in the production of “Kinky Boots”. Mitch Grassi (a true contra−tenor, can hit high notes in his chest voice with ease and go WAY higher in his falsetto, also with ease); Avriel "Avi" Kaplan (dark beard and long hair), true basso profundo, trained as an opera singer, also can go up into the tenor range; and Kevin "KO" Olusola (beatboxer extraordinaire, also is a world−class cellist who plays cello on some of their songs, has a beautiful high tenor voice and gets occasional lead vocal solos as well, graduated pre−med from Yale and speaks several languages including Mandarin Chinese). Kirstie, Scott & Mitch grew up together in Arlington, Texas, and began performing together as children in local youth musical theater. They ended up in high school together and performed in the choir. While there, they formed an a cappella group called The Trio which had several performance videos go viral on RU-vid, most notably a cover of Lady Gaga′s "Telephone". The three of them are best friends and consider themselves to be almost siblings. Scott & Kirstie (who were a class year ahead of Mitch) both graduated high school in 2010 and went their separate ways to different colleges, Scott at USC and Kirstie at Oklahoma. While at USC, Scott joined a USC−based a cappella group called the SoCal VoCals, where he met alumnus Ben Bram, who was now an arranger and vocal coach for the NBC TV show The Sing Off, an a cappella competition show. Ben convinced Scott to get The Trio to audition for the show. The three reunited (Mitch had to skip high school graduation ceremonies to go) in Los Angeles for the audition. They found out that the rules had changed, so they needed at least five members to audition. Ben put them together with Avi (a native of Visalia, California), who he knew from Avi′s performing days at Mount San Antonio College in California. They found Kevin (from Kentucky) through one of his RU-vid videos that had gone viral featuring him playing the cello and beatboxing at the same time, a talent that Kevin coined as "Cello−Boxing". Kevin arrived in Los Angeles literally the day before the audition! Scott came up with the name "Pentatonix" after the pentatonic scale. They performed a re−arrangement of "The Telephone" for the audition and passed, despite having been together as a five−piece group for less that 24 hours! They won The Sing Off that season (all of the performances are available on RU-vid), in which they received a substantial cash prize AND a record contract with Epic Records. They pooled their prize winnings together and all moved to Los Angeles, and all got apartments right next door to each other in the same building. But just a week later, Epic dropped them because the marketing people didn′t think an a cappella group could sell records. Instead of giving up, they were determined and began recording their own songs on RU-vid, hiring Ben Bram as their producer and arranger. These usually consisted of the five of them sitting on a couch and performing cover songs live. Several of the videos went viral, and Sony (the parent company of Epic) decided to give them another chance by placing them on one of their smaller labels, Madison Gate. They released two secular EPs and one Christmas EP on Madison Gate, all of which were strong sellers. But when their cover of a medley of songs by Daft Punk not only went super−viral, but also won them their first Grammy, they were promoted all the way up to RCA Records, Sony′s top label. They began writing and producing their own songs in addition to their covers, began putting out a Christmas album just about annually (which has become their best−selling genre), and have had multi−platinum album sales, sold−out world tours, and have won two additional Grammys. Avi began getting burned out with all of the touring and heavy recording schedule, was suffering from anxiety and personal problems, and learned that his mother had been diagnosed with cancer in 2017. He announced he was departing from the group and taking some time away from the music industry. Matt Sallee (from Baltimore) joined them in September 2017. He did only become official when they renewed their RCA contract in February 2018, but he recorded with them in September as a featured artist and went on their Christmas tour as a featured artist, as well. When he attended the audition for the group, he had already mastered the Bass part for most if not all their past catalogue. He was successful and has proved that he fits in well with the group. If you think there have been other changes to the line up - look again. This is the ONLY change. Kirstie and Mitch are like chameleons and change looks frequently. It is an often debated subject among the Pentaholics as to just how soon we introduce the "Beginners Guide" as we don't want to overdo the introduction. This is a compilation of snips of a whole load of songs which PTX have released. It highlights each member with some of their solos and then a brief history in video. It is quite long - 14+ minutes and is a little dated now (Feb 2020) but is a good watch ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lDxIfwfCmQE.html&pp=ygUdYmVnaW5uZXJzIGd1aWRlIHRvIHBlbnRhdG9uaXg%3D. After a year away from music, Avi has now returned as a phenomenal solo artist in the Folk/Americana/Roots genre. Ben Bram has been in charge of their production, including arranging and directing from the beginning. He is often referred to as the sixth member. Scott and Kevin are major players in the arrangements, but every member contributes. A good watch is "The Recording of Evergreen" where a camera was invited into the studio for the second week of recording/ Also, all members are songwriters for both Pentatonix and their own solo work. Ed Boyer who mixes everything of theirs (even the HWB Livestream) is the one who pulled Ben Bram into the sing off in the first place. They have Grammy wins for Daft Punk Medley, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, and Jolene featuring Dolly Parton. They were nominated for a 4th Grammy for their album Evergreen, but didn't win. Kirstie became a new mum which caused a pause in touring after their Evergreen Christmas tour 2021. Mid March 2023 Kirstie has announced that she is engaged to Ben Hausdorff, their videographer. No dates YET! They have a star on the Hollywood walk of fame installed in February 2023. They are the only a capella group with a star! They came 3rd in the 2023 Masked Singer performing as "California Rolls" being unmasked in May 23. Things you need to know because if you get these wrong Pentaholics will come after you with pitch forks and torches! Ha Ha!! 1- There is NO Auto-Tune; what you hear is actually what they sing. They really are that good. One exception is the 90's Dance Medley where Cher used autotune as an effect - so they had to. 2- What produces everything that you hear in the video, you see in the official video. If there is an instrument used in the music, you see it on screen. In the 2022 Christmas album, there are some instruments not featured throughout the album. 3- They never release something on video they can’t reproduce with the exact same quality live on-stage.

Hallelujah isn't a religious song, even though the lyrics use some religious imagery. It was written by Leonard Cohen, and mostly describes the pain and emotions that can be involved in relationships. Cohen wrote many verses for the song, upwards of 80, but these 4 are some of the most used. However, if you've ever seen the movie Shrek, or Watchmen, you've heard this song (not this group) in those movies. It's been covered many, many times by different artists and groups. The most famous is probably the guitar version by Jeff Buckley. Pentatonix is by far the most commercially and critically successful a cappella group in the world, with over 5 billion total views of their videos on RU-vid, 3 Grammy awards (nominated for a 4th but didn't win), multiple gold and platinum selling albums, and now a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. They tour all over the world - this spring they finished their world tour in Europe, Japan, and Asia, had a summer tour in the US, and are getting ready to start their Christmas tour in mid-November. They just released another Christmas album (The Greatest Christmas Hits) and a new video on RU-vid (Please Santa Please, a PTX original song). They're really busy people - and amazingly good at what they do!

Pentatonix broke the Recording barrier for Acapella Bands...
@evanirvana500
@evanirvana500 10 месяцев назад
Ok some back story. One pentatonix is the og acapella group. Home Free can thank their careers to ptx because they came first and when ptx on the sing off and won the record contract the label dropped them because at the time there was no audience for acapella abd they felt this genre couldnt be marketed. So ptx went out and did it their way. They did essentially DIY videos on RU-vid which went viral. Their following grew and without a label micromanagement and changing them as they did with sing off (such as muzzling mitch incredible once in a generation counter tenor voice because he was too gay for them and their "family viewers. ",), they were able to develop their own style how they wanted it. Eventually they were signed. Home Free, Voctave, Voiceplay all followed by enjoying the audience and acapella appreciation that ptx created. Ptx by far the most decorated and popular acapella group with being part of yputube rare 6 billion views club, 3 grammys with a new nomination this year so possibly a 4th. One of those grammys was for best country duo or group, and ptx won for their collaboration with dolly parton in "jolene". Their also the most diverse, both in who they are from all different colors, religions, sexual preferences but can come together and sound amazing. They can cover any musical genre. Rock, pop, classical, country, jazz, traditional, christmas, r & b, rap, soul, gospel, edm....you name it and they'll have a song for you. They also just got a star on Hollywood walk of fame, and recently participated in the reality show, the Masked Singer. To me, theres all other acapella groups (all amazingly talented artists) and then there's pentatonix who lives in league of their own. I recommend more of their early works and work your way to more recent so you can see their growth over the years. So ill recommend "Daft Punk" (grammy filmed in the bass vocalists closet for like a few hundred $), "dance of the sugar plum fairy" (grammy), and "can't hold us" oh and "imagine, ". Oh and fyi, mitch and kirsty are still with the group, there's only been one member change, the bass. But mitch and kirsty tends to change their looks drastically each video, leading many to think they're different people. You can't mistake mitch's voice tho. It's too unique. Enjoy your pentatonix journey!

Also if you come from a soul background check out the mashup of Aaliyah's "are you that somebody" and Duo Lipo's New Rules. Rock is your thing check out "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Sound of Silence" . "The Prayer" and "Mary Did you know" are the best religious covers to me, great vocal showcase. Other gems La LaLatch and Imagine. Live gems Star Wars Tribute and Star Spnagled Banner

There are many acapella groups, depends on the niche you're looking for but for the US, I'd argue that PTX, Home Free and VoicePlay might be the top 3. Voiceplay are the theater kids of the 3 as they dress up in character for their songs. A fun intro for VP might be My Mother Told Me and Valhalla calling. I'g suggest you jump a few years to hear their cover of Amazing Grace (My chains are broken) just to hear how their voices have evolved

Another good A Capello group is Voice Play. Their bass is Geoff Castellucci (who is good friends with Tim Foust from Home Free) Geoff does a lot of single stuff as well, he sings all 4 parts, records, and puts them together to make a "group". He is amazing!

Truly on the top of the acapella groups. (BTW, Leonard Cohen author of this song) Avi Kaplan, the second guy, has been solo for some years. He has had a wonderful career with songs like Change on the Rise. But really, you couldn't go wrong with any of his songs.

Sorry this is so long. One thing to remember is that 3 members have a 5 octave range, I don't know about Kevin, because he doesn't sing that much (I do prefer his normal tenor voice to his falsetto, but what do I know), that leaves Mitch, our boy Mitch has at least a 6.5 octave, and probably more, but he refuses to let others know his true top or bottom note. Part of that is he's afraid he'll hurt his voice, which I can understand. There has only been one personal change that was in 2017, Avi Kaplan the bass singer left for various reasons, and Matt Salee came on board. The face most people make when they hear Mitch's voice is called a Mitch Slap. heir record company is stupid when it comes to copyright issues. But most reactors I have heard from (about 25-30 or so) have found they worry more about the video, so if you will make the video more transparent, or blacked out and place some text over it (your name, Pentatonix, “covered with text for copyright”, a logo just anything, and then pause now and then to talk, it will help to keep from getting blocked. With their label and YT nothing is guaranteed, but from what the other reactors have said, this things create an 80%-90% improvement, at least you meet all the written rules, unless the reviewer is having a bad day.

Pentatonix is the only a cappella band to have ever won a Grammy, except they've actually won THREE Grammys. They're also the only a cappella band to have a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame. THAT'S how good they are. The members of Pentatonix. In this video we have: • First verse: Tall blond guy, Scott Hoying, lyric baritone. In describing a man's vocal range, "lyric" means that the actual range exceeds the nominal range. In Scott's case, he sings everywhere from about the middle of a normal bass range through most of a normal tenor range. Probably five or six octaves. Scott typically takes over the bass harmony line when their bass has a solo. • Second verse: Bearded guy wearing a stocking cap, Avi (pronounced Ah'-vee, emphasis on the first syllable) Kaplan, lyric bass. Avi is an operatically trained basso profundo - his lowest notes have blown out speakers in live performances - but his range extends to somewhere in the middle of a normal tenor range. • Third verse: The only woman in Pentatonix, Kirstin (also called Kirstie, which rhymes with thirsty) Maldonado. Kirstie sings everywhere from a low alto through coloratura soprano, the highest female range. And she has fantastic whistle notes on top of that. Lately Pentatonix has begun referring to her as an alto soprano. • Fourth verse: Guy wearing a wide-brimmed hat, Mitch Grassi (pronounced Grah'-see, emphasis on the first syllable), natural contratenor. No one is certain whether Mitch can sing higher than Kirstie or Kirstie can sing higher than Mitch; I suspect that it varies from day to day, though everyone agrees that Kirstie has better whistle notes. Mitch is known for his ethereally beautiful (some say "angelic") high vocals. Shawn Stockman, of Boyz II Men, has said Mitch has "one of the prettiest voices I have ever heard in my life." Mitch switches seamlessly from chest voice to mixed voice to head voice. He has a range of just over six octaves. And we call that stunned look people get the first time they realize that the beautiful high voice is coming from a man, "being Mitch slapped." • The fifth member of Pentatonix (PTX for short) is Kevin Olusola (pronounced Oh-loosh"-oh-luh', primary emphasis on the second syllable, secondary emphasis on the fourth) beatboxer extraordinaire. There may be a better beatboxer than Kevin, but if so I've never encountered him or her. We don't get to hear Kevin sing as often as we'd like because he's generally too busy being the entire percussion section, but when he does sing he has a lovely tenor voice that occasionally descends to the uppermost reaches of a baritone range. He's also known for the beauty of his falsetto, which I believe goes higher than Mitch can. Kevin has perfect pitch. He began piano lessons at age 4, cello at age 6, and alto saxophone at age 10. When he was a teenager he performed at Carnegie Hall twice, once on the saxophone and once on the cello. He beatboxes while playing the cello, which he refers to as "celloboxing." He graduated from Yale in 2011 with a pre-med major and had already been accepted to Yale Medical School when he gave up his dream of becoming a surgeon to pursue his dream of becoming a professional beatboxer instead. He speaks five languages fluently: English, French, German, Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese. He's one of the kindest people in the world, and when he laughs the whole planet seems like a brighter place. In 2017 Avi found it necesssary to leave Pentatonix, for a variety of personal reasons. He has since gone on to have a very successful solo career, and I strongly recommend subscribing to his RU-vid channel, which you can find here: youtube.com/@AviKaplanMusic Avi's replacement joined in either late 2017 or early 2018 (depending on how you figure it); you'll see him in a lot of their videos: • The second black member of Pentatonix is Matt Sallee (pronounced Suh-lee', emphasis on the second syllable), lyric bass. In addition to being the newest member of Pentatonix Matt is also the youngest member, and I'm told that bass voices improve with age. Matt's range seems to be growing on a daily basis right now. His current lowest note seems to be Bb1, which just barely counts as basso profundo, though not the blowing out speakers variety. But on his high end Matt reaches nearly the top of a normal tenor range. To find his current range I recommend listening to a recent live stream of "Hallelujah." You can find one here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FqphhPapkoc.htmlsi=tC6Ew07JGeQKQvDL Matt's arrangement of the second verse seems to be designed to show off his full range, and it will blow you away.

Beautiful to watch you love what you were listening to!! It’s very special!!! You felt it! One duet you might really love, is the song, “Don’t Know Much,” with Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Neville live at the Grammy’s in 1990, I believe. Most recognize this sing from the movie Shrek! Just so you know... They can sing the phone book and this is definitely not normal. Total anomaly. The talent alone is rare but to come together and arrange and know their exact parts timing and the lung capacity alone to make ALL the sounds with their voices with no time to rest between songs??? Definitely not normal. Anything they do in a studio they can also perform live just as well sometimes evwn better. Keep reacting and your number of Subscribers will grow. I saw one reactor receive over 1000 subs in one week just because they discovered PTX. They have so many fans that will subscribe just to see you react to PTX. I did. Welcome to the rabbit hole. Hope you decide to go down it. They can rap as well. Kevin can dance sing or olay the cello while beatboxing. And i saw a comment about you overlooking the bass. You may want to consider upgradu g tour headphones with a bettee quality. You may alrwady have great ones but if you dont just knkw youre missing a lot of instrumental sounds .

youtube refreshed my memory of so much music. i'm 63 so the 1970s was my prime music time. folks played instruments; they really sang and performed. also, radio stations played a much bigger variety of music than they do now. i seeing young folks discover all our old favorites. if you haven't discovered motown music you are totally missing out. ask your grandma. :-] i found pentatonix during the pandemic; they really got me through. they make you feel emotional and that's a good stress relief. enjoyed spending a little time with you.
