The joy they have in performing this song makes me happy and makes me smile everytime I listen to it; I don't save it for Christmas time I listen to it year round.
Sir, when they were dicussing this song, Kevin asked them, what they thought of singing it with a African rhythm, like his parents did in Nigeria, in church. A old, old, European song was reborn with an also very old rhythm from the beginning of mankind in Africa. I think you saw the joy on the faces of the gospel choir. We can build something new out of old traditional knowledge, if we are open to other cultures too. You and yours, please stay safe and healthy, and a peaceful holidays to all. German greetings
Several years ago my daughter did this version for Christmas assembly never thought I would see the day PTX being blasted across a primary school in Western Australia
You never expect a classic Christmas hymn to make you want to jump up and dance. This arrangement is so much fun. One of my favorites, and they have a LOT to choose from. 😄 Also, most of us decided a long time again that PTX isn't human. Prevailing theories are either angels or aliens come down to teach us what music is supposed to be.
Great review This arrangement was unique asking all to come all you faithful & praise the lord Bringing in the quire while PTX is telling everyone to come forward & praise the lord was amazing. This is how this carol was meant to be sung full of joy & happiness
Who else would think to put that song to a calypso beat? Absolutely phenomenal. One of my favorites. And I have so many favorites from them when it comes to Christmas songs.
This is a very African arrangement of this song, in Africa Christmas is a day of church rejoicing, gifts are not part of it . You go to church where you rejoice all day then you celebrate with family.
“I’m lost for words!” Becomes a theme with PTX. I’m playing my way thru your PTX playlist. Hoping you have done Imagine. I love watching your first reactions to the songs. Emotions will be running wild with it. Love the Caribbean feel. Never would you think to sing it like that.
PTX definitely turns this traditional hymn on its ear, but it feels right that they made it so joyful and exuberant! I love this arrangement and can’t help dancing when it comes on - thank you for the wonderful reaction.
When you stopped half way through to say "this is the best arrangement i've ever heard"... i had to giggle to myself. I knew it only gets better from there.
As I always like to say when a reactor watches this for the first time .... I can tell when the "spirit" hit you. The look on your face when the choir came in full force was so telling. As many times as I've watched this video, I get hit smack upside the head at the same spot. Every time!
I love everything I have ever heard from Pentatonix. This was unexpectedly different than what I expected due to its blending of African/Caribbean rhythms with a touch of southern holy roller influence. Loved it!
This is one of my favorites, like Kevin's heritage drove this, but like they all dressed in church appropriate clothes and mostly actually sing in straight.
So by now you see why there are so many rabid Pentaholics out here. They usually have a surprise in store, and their Christmas works are no exception. I really am enjoying your PTX discoveries and very happy that you are enjoying this amazing group.
Avi and Kevin the best rhythm section, right???? Love this performance and really enjoyed your reaction. Please react to Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy which was Grammy win #2. Cant wait to hear more PTX Christmas.
I love how they did this arrangement, different than any other version. The best in my opinion. Now wait to see how they do Little Drummer Boy. You will love it!
This is my favourite PTXmas song! Great reaction. I think you should react to what they do to the most boring Xmas song cover of theirs, 12 Days Of Christmas. I believe you will be blown away with the arrangement, a true PTXmas special.
Same reaction I had when I first heard it. Makes you want to dance and move. Makes me want to really listen and understand the lyrics more. Love your reaction, your face said it all.
So many Christmas songs sound like funeral songs! For songs that are supposed to be about joy, they sound dark and depressing. This version of the song puts the JOY back in joyful! Great song and great reaction!
☺👉Just remember friend PENTATONIX as a whole unit is what creates this ✨MAGIC✨Kevin and Avi laying down the PERFECT foundation for the Trio's IMPECCABLE vocals!. I left you a "small" list on my previous comment of more PTXMAS songs for you. ABSOLUTELY NO ONE arranges songs like PENTATONIX!! They are Acapella Royalty
Brings me to tears every time I listen to PTX’s rendition to this Christmas classic. To me this is how we are to celebrate the birth of Christ! The King of Kings is born, for God’s sake!!! Such great news should be brought in with joy and celebration!
Absolutely love this arrangement. Beautifully sung as always with a large dose of Avi and Kevin. Please react to Avi's solo music as well, it's gorgeous 😍
Love this so much. Kevin and Avi start the tempo out of this world. Mitch, Scott and Kirstie amazing. Then a huge backing choir. The joy in the song is just amazing 🤩
I was in tears as little watching and feeling your reaction. This song truly brings joy and wonder to anyone who hears it. Pentatonix and Christmas is the perfect combination 💖
This is the most joyous song ever!!!! NOW I'm ready for the Season, Christmas is hear!!! Never hear this the same again! Joy just pure JOY!! Great reaction. The bass line and percussion were insane! again just feeling Joy!
If someday you react to their Sing-Off journey, one of the judges proclaimed Kevin and Avi the driving force or “meat and potatoes” of the group. Your response is exactly what he was referring to.
As well as the judge's comments about how they always have a surprise or 2 in their arrangements, lol, but I'd say this WHOLE song was a pleasant surprise 💜🙌
@@katelyn4358 Do what? I mean he needs to react to the fist 12 songs of the 5 member Pentatonix. I mean, they met the last two members a couple of days before the audition, and they were sooo good by the time they got to 12. Yeah, we don't want to put it in his head to watch THE ORIGINAL 12 SONGS OF PENTATONIX. you right. 🤔😲😎
@@katelyn4358 Ok, normally you would have a good point. Pentatonix went from nothing to winning a nation wide competition in 1 season. OK, you have a point. Maybe Hallelujah, Sound of Silence, Daft Punk, Bohemian Rhapsody, then sing off? I feel like they keep moving away from a true great group into an over produced group. Well, guess he can read this stuff and decide what to do.
They are pretty amazing, huh. They have many more Christmas songs which will blow you away. They are great at arranging songs to put their touch on them. Please react to Pentatonix "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen".
Great reaction. This is by far my favorite Christmas song of theirs. It was such a beautiful surprise the first time I heard it years ago with it’s African beat and strong rhythm section second to none. It never fails to make me sing and dance along with joy every time I hear it 😊🎄
Whenever I think of his carol in the future, I’ll be thinking of this amazing version, and I’m 77 years old and a music lover all my life. It can’t be done better than this, and the choir was icing on this performance. 👍👍👍👍👍
♥ The creativity and talent are unmatched. I know what you mean; Avi and Kevin make a great rhythm section for the glorious trio and the trio provide a wonderful melody for the rhythm section. Pentaholics have a saying: Your favorite PTX song is the one you're listening to and your favorite member is the one you're looking at. Keep up these wonderful reactions!!
Acappella and Christmas carols are a made for each other combination. Silent Night, Mary Did You Know, Little Drummer Boy, The First Noel, Angels We Have Heard on High, That's Christmas To Me and their Grammy award winning Dance of the SugarPlum Fairies are required listening. They have many that do not have videos to go with them as well having put out a Christmas album every single year starting in 2012. If you think of a Christmas carol they have probably done it. They had a Christmas special they did in 2016 I think and had Dolly Parton and Reba McIntire on it with them.
I will never be able to listen to another version of O Come All Ye Faithful and not long to hear this one. It is so upbeat, so joyful. Not only does it have the island/African feel to it, but also old-timey joyous gospel. I love this song so much the way Pentatonix performed it.
I agree with you about this song, it's fantastic. PTX does so many Christmas songs that are phenomenal. But I think your next PTX Christmas song should be the one that earned them a Grammy Award "Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy" and just work your way out from there. "Little Drummer Boy" is awesome also. What am I saying they are all awesome.
Well it does say Joyful and Triumphant. Check! As far as I'm concerned, the star of this performance is the arrangement. And its delivery of course. Tout ensemble.
My two favorite PTX Christmas songs (besides this one and The Prayer) are lesser known ones: Angels We Have Heard On High and White Christmas. Angels features two FABULOUS smooth jazz breakdowns, and White Christmas (there was no official video for this one) features a duet with Manhattan Transfer - one of the great groups of jazz! Yeah I'm a fan of smooth jazz! Lol
I clicked the thumbs up before I even watched the vid, I was sure you'd like it! I love love love your reactions, the sheer joy on your face is amazing to watch. Please do the White Winter Hymnal if you haven't done yet :-)
Yeah, this was SOOOO way beyond fabulous!! I agree, the beat-boxing and the bass do it for me, too!! T'ward the end there, was, like, an African vibe---reminded me of "The Lion King"; LOVE!! I'm someone who almost NEVER likes when a song is rearranged---until there was Kelly Clarkson.... And Pentatonix!! And they often, somehow, manage to make it even better than the original!! Just when you thought they couldn't possibly get any better....
The entire song had the African vibe-the opening moments have the African drumbeats, the "Eee ay ee ay" is completely an African influence. This is one of my favorite PTX songs ever.
I think it's kind of funny that Pentatonix, known for doing covers, is now being covered. I've watched several videos of church choirs singing this time honored song in the PTX way. Sounds great with a big choir.
Such a great reaction! I could see a pure suprise on your face right from the beginning - I'm 100% sure I looked exactly the same, when I first heard it 😉 This is such an unexpected arrangement for this song, but it suits so well... It's my most favourite version of this song ♥️
Your reaction was just perfect. THE very best version of this song there has ever been. I've heard it many times and it still brings out the positive emotions every time!
Thanks for your reaction! Pentatonix Christmas music is the best as they take all these old songs that we are tired of and turned them all into something special. When you have a chance you may want to check out Avi with Home Free in "Ring Of Fire" or his solo work starting with "Change On The Rise". Kevin Olusola has his own 'KO' channel on You Tube that you may also want to check out starting with his cover of "Down"
