I remember the first time I heard Pink Floyd, "Dark Side of the Moon" 1972. I was stunned, never had heard anything like it. Now 50 years later I still haven't heard anything like it!

I was doing homework at a friends house. I remember like it was yesterday. 🤭 At 58, I don't remember much 🤣 but DSoTM, Ziggy Stardust, Tommy & 2112 changed my very being. I definitely remember my first time! 😂 Each time it was doing homework, just what grade I was in at the time changed. 😁🐰

You shouldn't be listening to this album like this - chopped up and out sequence. Do your self a favor and listen to it exactly in the order the songs are played. On the album, "Great Gig" comes just after, "Time" - Floyd's albums are conceptual. Once you've listened to a whole album, then go and play your favorites. And don't miss the "Pulse" 1994 concert - "Sorrow", "Comfortably Numb", "High Hopes", "Keep Talking" are all spectacular, as is the Pulse version of this.

I agree. I was wondering why it mixed into the song "TIME". It ruined this whole video.

What you heard was actually "Speak to me" that was the short intro with samples from Money etc Then, it went directly into "Breathe (in the air)" Then someone has cut out a couple of tracks and moved onto "The Great Gig in the Sky" So that's NOT the original album transition after Breathe😉

Yeah, this stupid fucking idea that musicians have to be high to make good music is so damn childish; Zappa is a perfect example of magic tunes done sober and fucking clean.

My sister brought home this album when I was in 8th grade. It became my introduction to a new world of music. I often came home high and put the speaker next to my ear (early ear buds). I know every note and lyrics. It was awesome to watch your expressions as you listened. Please listen to all of Pink Floyd, and begin with their earliest work. The history of the changes they went through deeply influenced their music. I'm a new subscriber to your channel now. Thanks.

A pink floyd reunion show would be the biggest ticket ever . They need to do a festival tour. 3 nights of floyd with camping. Do it on every country or continent

They would need to figure out a way to bring Rick Wright back from the dead. :-( And, have to get Roger and Dave to be able to put up with each other again. THAT might be the bigger ask.

I met David Gilmour back stage at a concert in California 1984. I asked him about the meaning - reason for “Great Gig In The Sky”…. David’s answer was something like…. .I was asked if Pink Floyd would ever do a song about Religion like some others have… so I said, You are referring to the great gig in the sky they call “God“. What words could be used to describe all the pain and suffering caused by religious beliefs. All the crying and wailing from mothers who lost their husbands or sons in a war fought over religious differences. The only vocals should be just the sound of a mothers crying with pain and suffering. That’s the true intentions of the song. We didn’t want to make that public so as to avoid any religious boycott like what happened to the Beatles after Lennon made his comment about Jesus. We could not tell the singer so as to avoid her making any comments that would end up in the media. The speaking heard at the beginning was recorded at Apple records prior to the recording of the song. Roger Waters placed a recorder at the door asking anyone who walked by to answer some questions into the microphone. The janitor stopped and recorded his answer to the question….”Are You Afraid Of Dying”?. It was decided to add the recording to the start of “Great Gig In The Sky”. It leads people to believe the song is about dying, but that is actually not the case. The Great Gig In The Sky…is GOD … The incredible vocals from Clare Torry happened when she did not know what they wanted. David Gilmour told her to pretend her voice is a Saxophone like on other songs on the album, no words, just tones. Results are legendary.

Why are they this good? Not sure. But I'm convinced they're currently the most universally appreciated rock band of the big five British bands: Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Who, The Rolling Stones, and Pink Floyd. Even your grandma like a Pink Floyd tune.

Among many things, it's true Pink Floyd was considered kind of a band for stoners or other mind altering tools like mushrooms or acid. The original lineup of the band with Syd Barrett helped define what we now call psychedelic rock and it is much more trippy than this. Syd was gone and David Gilmour stepped in and they kept a lot of that feel, but made it more relatable.

Can't go wrong with Floyd ... but like some others have said, what you heard here was heavily edited, it's not a bad edit. Most Floyd albums tell a story and each track is a chapter some of the chapters you heard here were incomplete and out of order. There will not likely ever be a Floyd reunion, but if you ever see either "Brit Floyd" or "Aussie Floyd" playing near you try to catch the show ... especially if they are doing Dark Side of the Moon.

As a longtime Pink Floyd fan I highly recommend you to listen 🎶 to the discography of the band from "Dark Side Of The Moon 🌙" forward because it's the best way to note 📝 the growth of the band 🎨 👨‍🎨 👩‍🎨 🎨 artistically speaking 👄 and 👎 😀 hearing 👂 😀 each album in chronological order is the best way. I've always done it this way. I get into a group by a) buying and listening to the albums b) going to se them live in concert! If they rock 🎸 🤷 🤧 💯 🤣 then c) I buy the album for my family 👪 and friends for birthdays 🎂 and Christmas 🎄 gifts 🎁 ❤!
