Pink Floyd are a British national treasure legendary band 🇬🇧

Alan Parsons who engineer the album is a huge reason this is one of there greatest albums!

It's a tenor sax on this one. Dick Parry was the session musician that did their sax work in the 70s and 90s. He switches from one sax to another mid-solo during shine on you crazy diamond pts 1-5.

Pink Floyd has always been my favorite band since I was 13.

I picked up this record when it came out 50 years ago. I was a sophomore in high school, had a Panasonic AM/FM/8-track with a turntable and a pair of 8" speakers. Had a set of Koss headphones with a 15' extension cable, so I could lay out on the bed to listen. Put it on the player, put on the headphones, turned on my black light, turned off the other lights and enjoyed "Dark Side of the Moon" for the first time.

That good transition is owed to David Gilmour not being able to come up with a solo in the original 7/4 timing of the song. So they transition to 4/4 for his solo. 😂

The switch from 7 to 4 and back is just amazing.

I think Alexis would love the sax in "Us and Them" from this same album.

The entire album needs done front to back. GOAT album.

“I certainly was in the right” was said by the doorman at Abbey Road Studios who was Irish.

Alexis picked up on the Irish accent at the end, I'm impressed. That was actually Henry McCullough, who was Paul McCartney's guitarist in Wings at the time. McCullough's spoken words "I don't know; I was really drunk at the time" can be heard on the Pink Floyd album The Dark Side of the Moon (1973), at the end of the song "Money". He was recalling a fight he had the night before with his wife.

I don't know if you've done it before, but if Alexis loves sax may I suggest Gerry Rafferty - Baker Street.

"And you're doing wink-wink-nod-nod...." Perfect!

Idea: play her "Shine On You Crazy Diamond I-V" Dim the lights (close the curtains), get her relaxed (close her eyes) and avoid distractions. If that doesn't float her boat then move on to other music.

And ref the Irish voices, one was Henry McCullough from Wings, and the other was Gerry O'Driscoll who was the doorman at Abbey Road. I presume Wings were around the studio when Floyd were recording and Roger had this idea to give everyone cards with questions on to answer and it's these answers that are heard at various points in the album. In fact O'Driscoll's voice is the last you hear on the album, "There is no dark side of the moon really, as a matter of fact it's all dark."

DSOTM is one of the greatest Concept Albums of All-Time that is designed to be enjoyed in it's entirety and deserves to be appreciated as such, beginning to end with everything in between!

obviously "Time" is the one that kicks me in the guts now. The words hurt

My Mum raised my siblings and I with great music. I was a teenager in the 90s my favourite bands were Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Fleetwood Mac. Lots of old bands but I also loved grunge.

“So many sounds, it’s crazy..” love it. Time. Must take a listen to Time if you haven’t yet. But only if you want your insides reshuffled.

I LOVED THIS SONG. After 1976, This was the song I used when making stereo components (especially speakers) buying decisions. I lived for music, and this was my favorite album. I feel so lucky to have been around during the 60's and 70's! There was one guy that played the sax, and for this song, he wore two, an Alto and a Soprano so good ear! I am trying to remember a bad Pink Floyd song - Oh yeah , there aren't any!

They go from 7/4 to 4/4 then back to 7/4 time. Great arrangement. That was Dick Parry on the sax. He played on several PF albums. He toured with them and with David Gilmour on his solo tours.

The spoken voice is a recording of the Irish security guard at the studio, Alexis nailed that.

I hear you.... when I was in university between classes I would lay on my bed and just listen to Dark Side of the Moon over and over again and really didn't focus on the lyrics...

pink floyd can only be appreciated by laying back getting yourself into a Chilled state of mind.. turn the lights down and start an Album from the beginning untill the end.

As a sax player I can say the thing hanging over the bell of the horn is just a mic. All of the sound effects that you hear is a combination of embouchure and air support along with a trick we use to make a sax growl...

One of the coolest to listen to for sax solo is "Baker Street" by Gerry Rafferty.

An important and striking element of Dark Side is the recorded and recurring voices from start to finish. They provide sometimes evasive, sometimes explicit answers to the themes addressed in the songs. During the recording sessions, cards with questions centered on the synopsis of the record such as "When was last time you thumped someone?" or "Are you afraid of dying?", were placed on a desk at the entrance to the studio 3. All the regulars parading at Abbey Road were then invited to turn over one of these cards and provide an answer. At the end of Money, we can hear guitarist Henry McCullough who provided the phrase "I don't know, I was really drunk at the time”.

Dick Parry is the master saxophonist playing on the various Pink Floyd albums. He’s not part of the band. The following track after Money is ‘Us and Them’, which you started to hear with the church like organ music. Dick Parry plays two saxophones in this one. If you were to watch the RU-vid video, you’d see him swing off the saxophone around his neck to grab the other to play the instrument. Simply awesome.

The sax player, Dick Perry, played many solo's on their various albums and does an exceptional job! Another thing to remember is this album was made back in the early 70s and there were no computers to do all the timing for mixing and background sounds, so it had to be done by hand and tape. Creating the overall song was an act of composing a masterpiece in its own right. That's why this album stayed on the top 100 charts for over 14 years! Well, that and the fact that the music is incredible! The voices you heard towards the end of the song were voices from people they had interviewed prior to mixing the album. The Irish man you heard was the doorman from Abbey Road studios during the time Pink Floyd made this song. If you are interested, you should see the video "The Making of Dark Side of the Moon" because it goes behind the scenes and gives all these incredible facts and tidbits.

The actual quote is “The love of money is the root of all evil” Money is just a tool. It’s a thing it doesn’t have agency it is neither good nor bad. It is just a tool that we use for the exchange of goods and services. Nothing more nothing less. How people perceive and manipulate others using it. The song has a lot to say about that.

Definitely think you should react to"Time". I would suggest that if you do, react to a lyric video. As I've gotten older I've really come to appreciate the meaning within Pink Floyd songs.

I was one of those kids that did the headphones in the dark thing. I remember when the mix just enveloped me.

It's said that the LOVE of money is the root of all evil. Money is unfortunately the vehicle we use for the transfer of our energy and therefore necessary to live in the current paradigm. Only people I know who think money is evil are poor in their mindset. Broke is a temporary circumstance, poor is an attitude. Second-best bass line ever, BTW. Lyrically, I think that Alexis would love 'Time' and 'Wish You Were Here'. Also, one of my favorites that I don't see suggested very often is "On The Turning Away". There are so many interesting songs, but I wouldn't go too far down the trippy rabbit hole too quickly. I agree with everyone that some of their albums are so much better if you could do an entire album reaction, maybe even as a live show?

Dick Parry was the name of the sax player. He plays the tenor sax which is the lower register of the alto. If you wanna hear his best in my opinion, listen to Shine on you crazy diamond Parts 1-5.

Part of the greatness of this album is just how crystal clear and well produced it is. Here i am listening to this song on RU-vid with a pair of cheap $50 Sennheiser headphones and the sound is amazing especially for a 51 year old album.

Loved the use of this song in the 2003 Edition of "The Italian Job", it fit the movie so well. Plus, I love the song. So many fantastic elements, lyrics, bass, guitar, sax and rock solid drums behind it all!!

The voices at the end are not the band, but employees that worked at the studio cleaner, security (the one with the Irish accent) ect...... Responding to questions the band set and recorded their answers. One of them was something like "when was the last time you were in a fight what was the outcome and were you in the right?

As an amateur drummer, the first thing that comes in my mind about this song is the unusual 7/8 time signature in the A-part.

There aren’t a lot of instruments that are easy to play but when learned the sax is sexy. When an instrument is learned, practice will help the musician play almost any music. The hard part is if they are expected to improvise and go off sheet music. Then the sound must come out of their mind. Pink Floyd famously asked the lady on The Great Gig in the Sky to wing it. She had somewhere to go and nailed it on first take. Sometimes magic happens and sometimes someone writes it down on sheet music and a musician brings it to life. Music has such magic in that 2 people can do what’s written on the score but one will just have IT! And IT can be amazing.

This was a song that was very cool to hear on the short lived Quad receiver (It was a 70's thing).

A bunch of brilliant musicians who could actually work together. Most times you have a bunch of great musicians together they break up in a year or two, because of musical differences.

The talking were people in and around the studio that they asked question too. Like “when were you last violent”. “Were you in the right to be violent” and “are you afraid of dying”. One of the characters was an Irish doorman.

grew up on the floyd from age 12/13 first got dark side, just cool music but the older i grew, the more i understood the lyrics, same as you, they are timeless genius, they are not a band/genre/ they are a phenomenon,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I was 58 (2 years ago) before I looked up the lyrics to Crazy Train and was very surprised at the meaning. All these years it way a guitar riff to jam out on but the lyrics have meaning and was well written.

I have seen many of your videos and I gotta give them to you, Great musical taste I will recommend to check out an awesome Band called ‘ The Warning” They very young but TW has been around for 10 years now Many of us “The Warning Army“ Think their live performance are their bread and butter. I will recommend anything from their concert in Teatro Metropolitan in CDMX Hope to see that reaction on your channel in the near future. Ps. They also have a song named Money.

Of all the overplayed rock classics, Money is one I never get tired of - and I have to listen to it entirely everytime it's played. Incredibly engaging piece of music.

The song Dogs of War live from the Delicate Sound of Thunder concert is hard and heavy and has a sax solo that will melt your face off.

I used to play this CD to put my daughter to sleep as a very young baby! She was born in 2003.

What a great year 1973 was with Dark Side of the Moon and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, two of the most enduring albums of the rock era, along with so many others. Hard to believe it's all half a century ago!! I wonder what music from 2023 they will be reacting to in 50 years time?? 🎧
