Jet City Woman. The song talks about coming home to family after a long road trip. "Jet City" is a nickname for Seattle, the band's hometown. It was written about Geoff Tate 's first wife, who was a flight attendant.

@Monty Hugo Such a shame to see what has happened to Seattle and the greater Puget Sound area. My parents came to Seattle from Scotland (via Canada) after serving in WWII for Britain. I was born in Seattle but raised in Ayrshire Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 until I was 12. I've lived mostly in the Seattle area but when I retired we moved to the Skagit Valley. That's 10-12 years ago and on those rare occasions when we have to go to Seattle for something I am shocked at the sight of homeless encampments where Northgate used to be. Damn shame

Saw them live many times. They were amazing. You really had to listen to know they weren't lip-syncing. One of the tightest bands I've seen. Jet City is a nickname for their hometown, Seattle. And they rock. "Another Rainy Night" is a great one also.

Singer Geoff Tate wrote this song, or at least the lyrics about his his first wife who was a Flight Attendant so she would be gone for weeks at a time. The song is about being lonely when she was away. Another great song by them and off of the same album is the song called "Best I Can". Great message in the song as well.

One of my favorite Queensryche songs. Geoff Tate's first wife, who he was dating when he wrote this song, was a flight attendant. When we asked him if the song was about her, he replied, "I guess it is, in a sense."

I like seeing different peoples reaction to discovering the absolute talent of this band. I've known this since 1984. I been lucky enough to have seen them in big arenas with 16,000 fans and seen them in small venues with 200 fans. Loved their music then and now.

They build jets in Seattle area and some refer to Seattle as the jet city plus that’s where they are from.. My X use to be there Secretary in the late 70s in Bellevue Wa, Thanks for the memories. Cheers 🥂

Geoff Tate's singing is kind of like the prelude to grunge, with the band leaning more into theatrical metal instead of punk metal. Lots of great voices in Seattle around that time.

Even though this song isn't a prog rock/prog metal song, Queensryche is considered one of the 3 big fathers of the progressive metal genre, along with Dream Theater and Fates Warning, although both 'ryche and DT have credited Fates Warning as beating them to it. "Point of View" by Fates Warning would be a great follow-up to "Jet City Woman".

Yes, Take Hold of the Flame Live in Tokyo 1984. That performance is hair raising, especially Geoff Tate on vocals. One of the best bands of the 80s but NOT Hair Metal. They were an awesome hard rock band with both metal and prog elements that produced a series of great albums in the 80s & 90s. They also have one of the great concept albums ever in Operation Mindcrime. Enjoy! 🎸

Great reaction. "Anybody Listening" on this same album is a masterpiece along with "Silent Lucidity". Someone commented about "Take Hold of the Flame" live in Tokyo and that's one of the best live performances along with Journeys "Mother Father" live in Houston.

Please react to Silent Lucidity next, you will absolutely enjoy and respect that song. I wouldn't bother with Take Hold of the Flame like others suggest, it's juvenile Queensryche and more of a show-off vocal song for a young lead singer. It's definitely not a top tune from this band, especially from a casual listener perspective.

Hmmm, I'll have to respectfully disagree with that. Yes, "Take Hold..." is an early song from their first album, but I LOVE it! It does show off Geoff''s enormous range, but why not? The live in Tokyo video was only their second concert, I believe, but you'd never know it. They were very well-rehearsed and tight. Scott on drums was especially good. One person reacting to that video said, "That drummer is MAD!" Which IS the way he looked because many times he gets very intense when he plays. Anyway, I would say it's quite a beloved song by fans. See what YOU think.

The point is that when asking for reaction channels to try a new band, it may be best to pick an accessible song first, then the channel can dig deeper into the band's catalog after warming up to them. This channel will 100% enjoy Silent Lucidity and then be wanting more, that was the point of my comment. Jet City Woman was probably not the best introduction song either but still a good song, nonetheless. Eyes of a Stranger may have been a better choice.

@@pudgydaddy I see your point, but with Queensryche it's difficult to make these choices because of the variety of songs they have, from metal, to ballad, to bluesy, to computer dystopia, etc. I usually like to have people hear two opposite ends of the scale to start, like Take Hold... and maybe Silent lucidity. Selections from Operation:Mindcrime are fantastic, but they have to know they won't fully understand the lyrics unless they hear the songs in sequence. I guess picking songs to introduce the band to someone is pretty subjective. I didn't mean to be argumentative, I guess I just like Take Hold... more than you, and thought it would be a good second taste of QR. I'm sure whatever song they pick will have elements they'll like.

Ex-Queensryche singer Geoff Tate wrote the song about his first wife Susan... he would be on tour w/ Queensryche, and at the end of the run, he would fly home to Seattle where she would pick him up at the airport. So after all the travelling, she was his 'Jet city woman'... the one waiting for him at the end of his travels. Sadly, she & Geoff divorced in the 90's... Geoff Tate wrote very dark, sad lyrics for Queensryche's 1994 album 'Promised land' after they had separated... he remarried quickly, coincidentally his current wife's name is also Susan.

Have to remember that this band is from Seattle. Where Boeing has its manufacturing plant there and a few air bases. Seattle is known as Jet city to a lot of folks.

Geoff Tate is the bomb. Powerful range and tone. Queensryche is a band you need to do more of "Empire" "Take Ahold of the Flame live in Tokyo" "Silent Lucidity". And my personal fav : I Don't Beleive in Love". Operation Mindcrime the whole album. Brilliant concept album.

This song is about Geoff''s then wife. She was an airline stewardess, AND Jet City is also the nick name for Seattle because Boeing Aircraft is headquartered there. The band members are all from, and live in, the Seattle area. So there's a little double meaning to the title. "Another Rainy Night" is another great song along the same vein. This is a very talented and diverse band (original lineup)! "OPERATION: MINDCRIME" is a must listen! A highly acclaimed concept album, still relevant today! One long compelling story. Nice reaction! I was waiting to see if either of you would react to one of my favorite lines, "you're the air to me!" And you DID. I really like that sediment. QR doesn't write many love songs, and their earlier ones like "Walk in the Shadows (about vampires) have a little tinge of obsession. "I Only Dream in Infrared" and "The Killing Words" are other examples of love gone wrong or unrequited. Check out Killing Words live on MTV Unplugged 1992. Geoff is the BEST singer of all time, to me! He can sing anything with power, intensity, and expression. He has beautiful tone, phrasing, and vibrato. EACH member of the band are fantastic, and together they created some seriously untouchable music! I really enjoyed hearing your comments and hope you do MORE Queensryche! As many suggested, to hear a different side to what they can do, check out "Take Hold of the Flame" LIVE in Tokyo 1984!

They were from Bellevue, across the lake from Seattle (Jet City). I partied with them when they were still playing house parties where like 300 people would show up. We all knew they were going places, they were so tight. You really got to do "Take Hold Of The Flame" live in Tokyo.

Geoff Tate, the late Layne Stanley, late Chris Cornell and Ann Wilson of Heart had the same singing coach: the late David Kyle. RIP to them and Kurt Cobain. All the major Metro Seattle musicians know each other. Jet City = Seattle. I have been there many times en route or from Vancouver , BC, Canada. From their 1st Top 40 Billboard charting album Empire in 1990. Geoff Tate was still in his prime. Lead guitarist Chris DeGarmo and drummer Scott Rockenfeld were still in the band. Suggested next song: Is Anybody Listening?

gotta love a good metal love song!! A fave for sure. Geoff and Chris DeGarmo wrote this one. There is one other one by them, a not obvious one called Bridge that is underrated and fantastic. My fave song by them is Take Hold of the Flame.

This is one of my favorite Queensryche songs! This band was pretty unique because every album was pretty different from the last, at least in the 80s and 90s. They did a version of a song called Della Brown from this same album for their MTV Unplugged show, and it's awesome :D

To understand this song you must listen to the whole album start to finish the album is a story you will notice each song blends into the next song... That is one thing cool about the albums more then just a song the album tells a whole story just like they're past albums

“Empire” is another great song. There used to be 3 bars in Indy during this time that were owned by the same person. I worked at these bars, 2 of which were live rock every night and “Empire” was our theme song!! Great reaction!👏👏👏
