Rob: you stated in your commentary that you’d never heard of this band before. Let me say this….and it’s not to be confrontational or arrogant You all today are clueless when it comes to music. The talent and sounds coming from virtuosos and savants of musicians from the 70 and 80’s has gone unrecognized and under appreciated because it was overshadowed by garbage top 40 hits played to death on the radio It was therefore never given the respect it was due Thank you for helping keep it alive but there is so much for you to explore that you wouldn’t ever need to listen to anything else. Keep digging and you’ll see that most stuff popular today is a rip off of these forgotten masters of their craft
OMG 2 THIS. HE KEPT TALKING IM LIKE LET IT PLAY BRUH. THEN COMMENT. WE ALREADY KNOW THE FACE REACTIONS & HE GAVE THEM A 7.5 OUT OF 10? SMFH HE REALLY DOESN'T KNOW JACK ABOUT MUSIC 🎵🎶
It was their second show that day, they played a matinee full 60 min+ set earlier in the day before filming this. Tate is a vocal god to pull this off.
If you aren't a fan @kim... watch the video of Brittney Slayes (Unleash the Archers) cover them at a Karaoke event... She also just sang for 2 hours and went and got drunk and nailed it
So, Rob, I have a GOAT track for your workout sessions: Volbeat - Warriors Call Thank me later. Actually most of what Volbeat have done is a straight up banger.. but that particular song is really for fighting!
All the rock bands went to Japan in the seventies and eighties. Even the smallest bands got treated like the Beatles over there. Many bands did live albums over there too. Some of the biggest were Made in Japan by Deep Purple, Unleashed in the East by Judas Priest and Maiden Japan, a play on words, by Iron Maiden.
Queensryche is actually a Seattle band and the lead singer (Geoff Tate) was classically trained hence his pipes. They have a lot of really good music but this song was their break out song that got them notices and pushed into the mainstream rock. Probably their most famous and notable album was the album Operation Mindcrime. I correlate that album to a sort of story line about corruption in the church drugs and prostitution.. you cannot select a specific song off that album and just play it because you will lose content to it. But if you ever get a chance; listen to it start to finish. It's really an amazing piece of work! Glad to see you checking out the "'Ryche" 🙌
I know Rob loves the big balla pipes these guys have when they go high...how would he feel about somebody with tectonic plates for vocal chords like Geoff Castelucci :P
These guys have been one of my favorite bands for like 30 years. They have always been pretty great. Had a following around the 88-94 range. At least in my circle of friends at the time. The lead singer was Geoff Tate. He has like some amazing vocal range of like 6 octaves or something. Some stuff like the whole rock opera album "Operation: Mindcrime", (which is great btw) has a lot of really good songs like "I don't believe in love" and "Eyes of a Stranger" to name a couple. I HIGHLY recommend the song "Silent Lucidity" off the Empire album. It's one of those really amazing songs with a really positive message and a melody that you'll remember forever. Anyways, Love your reviews. Thanks for doing them and keep 'em coming.
if you like 80s Metal with a fantastic Vocalist you're gonna need to check out Ronnie James Dio. I'd recommend starting Rainbow in the Dark or Man on the Silver Mountain cause i feel like those are some of the songs you'd like most sung by him. Dio was the lead singer for Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath and eventually his own band Dio. He's the one who brought the horns gesture into rock.
As a rock DJ, we played Queesryche way before this song was popular. Great band. Really didn’t like them too much til I saw them live. Changed everything.
Baby, the 80s were such a blast! I saw Queensryche SEVERAL times live. They always sounded this good live. The clothes we wore were so AWESOME and fun. I had a black denim mini dress with zippers EVERYWHERE, of course with matching high heels. They were fun times, concert tickets were like 20.00 for decent seats! Glad to see you younger dudes checking out our music. Thank you.
I fucking envy you... I've been to HUNDREDS of concerts, but I would trade 20 or 30 of them just to see the original Queensryche ONCE. One of my all time favorite bands and I never got the chance to see them live.
@@sidetrakd38 They were AMAZING! The Operation Mindcrime tour with Pamela Moore as Sister Mary was beyond cool. Chris DeGarmo's live voice was equally as amazing as Geoff's. I was fortunate to see all the bands I saw in the 70s, 80s, & 90s.
@@chueysmama2622 The moment DeGarmo left the band it spelled the end... The most creative member of the band by far! His songwriting was unmatched, and his backing vocals were most often even higher pitched than Geoff's... a singer in his own right. The band still made some good songs after Chris left, but they were never on par with him in the band. A great loss to the music world when he decided to retire.
Only saw them once in Nov 1991 on the "Building Empires" tour where they performed the Operation Mindcrime album in its entirety. Paid $27.50 for the ticket. They also released a CD/VHS and soon afterwards a CD/DVD boxed set of the live show and of course I bought both versions.
I’m going to throw a curve ball here (maybe) and suggest Creepy Green Light by Type O Negative. It peaks early but is such a vibe it totally pays off. Listen on full volume in the dark!
“You’ve seen the Butcher” or “knife party” or “mein” if you wanna hear Serj from System of a Down on a track with Deftones. Or “passenger” featuring Maynard from tool and apc.
I'd be curious to see what you think of Elliot Smith. Based on some of your reactions, I think you might dig it. He was an incredible guitarist and song writer who was never fully appreciated in his time. If you ever want to get into some more folksy/less rock oriented music, give this video a try - it's called: Elliott Smith - Clementine live + interview 1995 (Breakfast Time). Bonus fact: He committed suicide by stabbing himself in the chest (twice!).
If you want to hear a deathcore song with the gnarliest vocalist please check out Lorna Shore and either their song “Into the Hellfire” or “Sun // Eater”. They’re from NJ but has recently gone on tour all around the world! Edit: I really enjoy all of your insights, and appreciate your honesty! Even though you may not really be musically trained, you have a great ear for catching what is notable or not! You have a great series, thanks for sharing!
Love Your Takes!!! Great band! The hardcore fans will probably say they sold out in 1990 but "Empire" is an amazing album from top to bottom. Empire had something like 6 Rock Radio hits/singles all while typical 80's rock was winding down and Grunge was taking over. "Operation Mind Crime" also an amazing album
Queensryche was founded in King 🤴 County! L 🤣 L The guitarist you saw at the beginning is Chris DeGarmo. Geoffrey Tate of Queensryche, Ann Wilson and her youngest sister Nancy Wilson, the late Layne Staley of Alice in Chains and the late Chris Cornell of Soundgarden lived in Metro Seattle in the 1970s. They were students of the late singing coach David Kyle. Marilyn Horne and Frederica von Stade were his students from classical music. Frederica von Stade moved to my hometown area the San Francisco Bay Area 🌉 This song and album were released 40 years ago 🎂. Written by Geoffrey Tate and Chris DeGarmo. Classic 1980s metal 🤘 Suggested videos 📹: 1 Queensryche performs Queen of the Reich 2 Heart 💕 performs There's the Girl 👧
10:35 Japan had was the first non-Western country to really have its own heavy metal scene. In 1984, the biggest Japanese band was probably Loudness, who'd just had a crossover hit called "Crazy Nights".
Dude you HAVE to do a video on Iron Maiden - Fear of the Dark - Live in Helsinki, Finland 1992. This beats the studio version and all other versions, hands down.
New subscriber here and I am *hooked* on your channel - spent the better part of my day binge watching your reaction videos and loved every minute of it! THESE are the kind of reaction videos I've been looking for - not only are you wildly entertaining, you provide thoughtful commentary and actually pay attention to the lyrical content (even offering your own analysis in some cases) which is something I truly appreciate. Speaking of bands with "Queen" in their name, I would LOVE to see you react to a song by *my* favorite rock band Queens of the Stone Age. "No One Knows" was the song that introduced me to their work (one of their biggest mainstream hits), but I think that "Misfit Love" or "Smooth Sailing" would set your world on fire! 🔥 Much love to you; keep on doing what you're doing! 🤘
This is one fantastic band! Some of the most amazing vocals you will ever hear, Geoff Tate. You should check out the musical masterpiece “Operation Mindcrime”.
The guitar player, Chris DeGarmo is also a commercial jet pilot! Geoff Tate the singer was a classicly trained opera singer. You should check out "Operation Livecrime" a live masterpiece, every member at the absolute apex of their game!
