Ren has been in a battle with Lyme disease for 14 years 7 of them undiagnosed and medicated wrongly for Bipolar and CFS He has several autoimmune conditions as a result of all the damage the disease did to his body and brain He also has had ADHD since he was a child Due to this he has a lot if music about this as representing much of his life However he is very talented musically and vocally He makes so many genres of beautiful sometimes challenging intelligent music He is also an advocate for all the people who have had to live with chronic health problems

Not only was it just him, his voice and a guitar, but it was done live, and in one take!

So many masterpieces - its alright. suicide, money game series, tale of jenny and screech, diazepam, ready for you, insomnia, depression. all his songs are masterful.

This is the kind of artistry that gives "broken" people hope. Ren, through this performance piece, has become to a lot of people exactly what he stated in the song, "...the voice that you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope". So powerful, so impactful. Even the song structure itself is incredible. It starts off as a battle between his positive (Angel) and negative (Demon) aspects, the negative then makes an overpowering last ditch effort to reign supreme, tearing free and trying to take control, but ultimately fails as the final act, being the "God" aspect, emerges Triumphant, though still acknowledging and accepting that it will ALWAYS be a battle because we are all "a coin with 2 different sides". It's a beautifully cathartic and raw musical masterpiece. Ren is truly special. Welcome to the Ren rabbit-hole, it's a trip worth taking. This was the 4th take he did and yes, it was done live. Wait until you hear some of his other stuff, especially his storytelling ("The Tale of Jenny & Screech"). You haven't even touched the breadth of this young man's talent yet. The pig character (imo) represents the doctors and therapist who have essentially butchered him for years through their misdiagnosis. It's the system that focuses on peddling more pills than on genuinely trying to help to fix broken/ill people, caring more about profit than individual health. The bastardization of the hippocratic oath. He literally thought he was going insane because he was told repeatedly that the pain and symptoms he was experiencing were all in his head (psychosomatic). He had reached a point where he literally resigned himself to dying before he reached 30. Turns out he had Lyme's disease the whole time and it ran rampant through his system for 10 years, even to the point of causing brain damage. Ironically, if Ren hadn't gone through what he has, would he have ever made the art he has? There's no question that his suffering has shaped his music and now he's finally getting the recognition he undoubtedly deserves. I've said it before, I'll say it again, Ren is special.

I could write an essay on how phenomenal Ren himself is and his music and art. Hopefully you will continue to find out yourself and be in awe with the most versatile and talented man in the world!! 💙

He's an amazing, mostly self taught musician working in areas as diverse as this sort of one voice one guitar, boy band pop with harmonies to dark electronic dance grooves with stops at street performance with and without a band. His musical career has been broken repeatedly by an going medical crisis due to misdiagnosed Lyme Disease and this has become the central theme of his art.

The mention of Eminem in this track is because Eminem did a track like this year's and years ago called "My darling". But in Eminem's case it's Him versus his alter ego Slim Shady a.k.a. his dark thoughts.

The best bit about how technically amazing this is, is the fact that it's live and done in one take. Rather the best one take out of 4 he recorded. Ren is a completely different kind of animal musically. Don't be mad at yourself for not getting to this sooner, be grateful that you got here. And just know that being at a loss for words in the context of this song is pretty common. All of us that found Ren, unless we were just a hater by nature, were crying and at a loss. The simplicity and brilliance of this song touches people in a very real place that very very few songs or artists will never do. The "She sells seashells on the seashore" quote is from an earlier single from Ren called "Money Game Part Two" which is another amazing song. parts One and Three are live performances like this. I'm so glad you watched this!! Clicking on a Ren video is very much like a choosing from box of chocolates that has no bad flavors.

The thing is, this isn't a one-off. He really is that good! He's a musical genius and no one conveys emotion like Ren! He does EVERY genre and does them all brilliantly! I can't wait for you to hear him really sing. Ren has incredible vocals, capable of multiple voices, styles and tones and with beautiful, delicate little nuances. He raps like a rap god, scats and beatboxes brilliantly. Ren plays about a dozen instruments well. Half of them RIDICULOUSLY well! All self-taught! He's a top-notch producer and lays down all his own music/beats/audio. His performance skills are first-class too! He oozes charisma and his stage presence is palpable! He directs most of his own videos. Many of those videos are, like Hi Ren, recorded live, in a single take, no cuts! His songwriting is World-class! Especially his lyricism. He's a poet really and a bloody good poet at that! He never misses! No matter the syle or genre. To top it all off, he's a incredible human being too! It can thus be a little overwhelming, on first encountering the World of Ren. :) He appears to have it all... until you learn his life-story and realise that he's been through hell! I'll leave it for others to detail all his many chronic health issues. He's better than he was, he was once bedridden for 7 year, but suffice it to say that he's still incredibly ill and is still in constant pain, as he has been for 14 years. His sheer bloody-minded resilience is quite remarkable and is genuinely inspirational to many! He does everything as a fully independent artist! No label, no financial backing, no PR machine, no management. Every label under the Sun has tried to sign Ren. He's turned them all down! With Ren, it really is all about the music! His experiences have made his priorities in life very clear and money and fame are well down the list! Facing death for years taught all the right lessons. He's wise beyond his years! Despite all the obstacles in his path, he's become well-known and despite being unable to tour or to promote properly, his album entered the UK album charts at number 1, knocking Drake off the top-spot! In doing so, Ren became the first fully independent artist to have a UK number 1 album! It also went top-ten in several other countries! It's all word of mouth. People stumble across his work and are blown away by how good it is and pass it on totheir friends and family... and so on and so on. Ren's a truly unique artist! A musical genius! A thoroughly decent human being and a once in a generation talent! Because of his independence, he'll never achieve the level of commercial success, industry acclaim, fame and fortune that he deserves but he's ok with that! tl/dr - Ren's great! Ren's music is great! Welcome, Freya, to the world of Ren. You have just discovered one of the most creative and original musical artists on Planet Earth - a generational talent. He is an outstanding lyricist; great singer of blues, rock, pop and reggae; superb guitarist, whether acoustic or electric; accomplished pianist (I've heard that he can player the cello too, but haven't seen that yet); great writer, arranger and performer of rap and pop songs; a compassionate humanist with a desire to make a difference. My only gripe is that I am now 70, and have managed to get through my life perfectly happily, enjoying a huge variety of music, whilst successfully and deliberately avoiding rap which I intrinsically disliked as I found it atonal. Ren has taken that prejudice away from me. I find that I like and respect his rapping, and unfortunately can no longer avoid listening to other rap artists to see what I may have been missing!

Personally I see Ren the Antagonist and Ren the Protagonist. It’s a journey, but in the end it’s a Hero’s journey. He released this the December ( 2022) before he went to Canada for what was to be a 4 month treatment protocol to help heal the long term effects of Lyme disease that went un/ misdiagnosed for so long that it left him with a whole bunch of other medical problems. It’s been well over a year and he’s still undergoing treatments. [ Seven Sins was the last song written for Sick Boi and, along with MG3 , was written in 2023. It begins with a eulogy for himself in Welsh and then chronicles what he has been through beginning with the day his mother found him on the kitchen floor and he fell into a state of psychosis.

Welcome to the world of Ren. He's a talent that can not be contained within one genre. He's excellent at using his voice to express an array of emotions and uses his guitar as an extension of his voice rather than just a tool just to produce music. All his songs are good. My favorites at this point are "Chalk Outlines", "The Tale of Jenny & Screech" and "Losin' It". Chalk Outlines gives further insight into his history with medications which I have also gone through similarly. The Tale of Jenny & Screech is an eye opening look to how society has gone. Losin' It is just an all around fun song.

Welcome to the world of Ren! If I had one piece of information to impart to people discovering his music, it's that you can broadly break down his music into two categories (which is, of course, an oversimplification, but I think it's a useful starting point.) He makes introspective, deeply touching music and videos that mostly deal with his physical illness, his mental illness, the suicide of his best friend. But he's also a gifted wordsmith and rapper, who makes music and videos that, while still very clever and thought provoking, have more of a rowdy, fun style to them. If you're in the mood for one type, and you listen to the other, it can be very jarring. Two others that I would recommend that have an introspective, personal feel to them, like "Hi Ren", are "Sick Boi" (which is usually the 2nd video people watch), and "Su!cide". Those three videos sort of give you most of the background about Ren, although you probably want to read some of the comments on them to get actual details. Then, if you like rap, some of his more "fun" style videos that are quite popular are "Illest of Our Time", "Animal Flow", and "Murderer". There are at least another 10 videos that people could recommend that are every bit as good as these; the only thing I'd really strongly recommend is watching "Sick Boi" next. Also, he has done a number of collaborations with Chinchilla, and their harmonizing is chill-inducingly great; the two that have professional videos (as opposed to recordings of them busking) are "Chalk Outlines" and "How to Be Me". I think they're both awesome.
