Then again, if people get "Rick rolled" what about the beegees "staying alive" 😒 like I've failed to understand why people made a meme on Rick when he is so talented that he had a health issue that shot down his career otherwise he would still be making songs. Yet not one person could give a generalized answer to me when I put the two in their face. Like am I wrong or did I just drop a fact that retracts a meme? All in all it doesn't bother me because I'm a fan of Rick and he's well respected alongside multiple of other artists of his time by my family and friends.

Rick Astley is a really cool guy. And this song was a HUGE hit for him. He actually performed this song with the Foo Fighters at a series of their concerts a few years back. Massive crowds with everyone singing along. So fun!

I can't believe there are adults who are young enough to have not been Rickrolled. 😱 In the early days of the internet it was a prank to send this video to someone in an email. So you'd open it and it would just start playing. It was called Rickrolling. I loved this song when it was originally out. We were all young back then.

However, my absolute favorite experience was Rick Rolling my own 12 year old son recently. 😂 He knew what Rick Rolling was, from me. He had even Rick Rolled me a few times and I was proud! I waited patiently for the perfect time.... and then it came. (I'm just gonna paste what I already commented to another. Lol!) I have a 12 year old son and we have a wonderful relationship. Lots of laughs and fun! I bought him a Amazon Echo Dot to use as an alarm and for him to listen to Spotify. My main goal was to Rick Roll him. 😂 [I literally paid an additional $7.99 for Amazon Music Premium, for THIS song, to play, ONE time.] Hearing my son playing his Xbox, chatting with his friends on the game and listening to his music, then hearing, "Rick Rolling me, Mom? REALLY?!?" Bursts of laughter ensued! I had used my Alexa app to begin playing this song on his device, without him knowing. It was perfect. 😂 Worth every penny! 🙌💰🙌

Your right…the eighties huge mix of music, rock, rap and a little of everything. Great dancing, styles etc. now….cursing, grinding on something and few musicians to show their instrumental talents. No auto tune back than.

You said it right, eighties was a great decade not only for the great variety of good music but the fashion, the way the People related one with another. I had the privilege to live my youger years at that era and the there were happy People all around. I heard this and all eighties songs at the moment they were released and you can listen to them in your cassettes with your walkman. Sounds crazy but those were the devices we had to go everywhere with our music. The era of rock band concerts and pop and punk music, even metal. It was saved to go out hagging with friends and show showing their new outfit. I live in Puerto Rico, so we heard the music from USA. All the hits comes here at the sametime because we listened and watched the videos on MTV and VH1. That was a joyfull decade. We had a band and we made covers of plenty of that music.

Although this song has morphed into an internet joke now - Rick still has an incredible voice - and has a LOT of really good music out there. My favorite song of his from the 80's is called You Move Me. It was used in a lot of different 80's movie trailers. His newer music is just as good. Check out Pray With Me. Hugs from Canada!

The 80' to the early 90's were lit! Everything was in. It didn't matter if you were into rock, punk rock, R&B, country or anything else. People came together for common causes and helped others, which only led to more people helping in other causes. We played hard and enjoyed life! It would be great if we could all go back to a time like that.

Rick wrote this when he was 19. He came to the attention of very prolific and successful producers Scott, Aiken, and Waterman who also owned their own recording studio. They hired him to work at the studio to "learn the ropes" and develop him some more. When he was 21 they decided it was time to pull the trigger and record it and release it in 1987. Bam, it shot to #1 in 25 countries. Rick continued to release albums and tour in many countries with much success. A few years ago he turned 50 and released an album aptly named "50". You might like this clip. There's a club in Toronto where the regulars gather to sing in a large choir together in like a "super karaoke" if you will. They heard that he was coming to Toronto to do a concert so they sent an invitation to come to the club and perform with them. I bought his first two albums/CDs...both were very good!!! I loved his version of "When I Fall In Love," cementing him as a bone fide crooner!!! It was released on November 30, 1987, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the release of Nat King Cole's version (recorded on December 28, 1956).

Rick was 21 when this came out in 1987. It was his first song, he had 8 top ten hits in the next 5 years. He became disenchanted with the music business and retired at 27. He has started gigging again and has released several albums in the past 5 years. His first new one, 50, premiered in the UK at number one. I prefer his newer songs, he looks more like his voice. Why are American blacks so surprised when they come across a white Brit, or Australian, or Irish singer who sounds like a black American. Joe Cocker, The Bee Gees, Rick Astley. Stevie Winwood. The list goes on. Indeed, I would say that MOST UK/Irish/Australian pop/rock star sound at the very least American, and a lot of them black American. Real '80's! And you might look up some songs from the Bee Gees ('70's) as example of music where most young people thought they were black too 😆. In the '80's you still needed to deliver, lots of instruments and they better could play them, same for being able to sing. Otherwise they're screwed. No auto tune yet either.
