Their expressionless looks really make the video! Those two "lip-licking" actions are a nice touch too. Wonder if those little moves were added by the models on their own??
Robert Palmer is the epitome of cool. 😎👍 The women in the band aren't actually musicians, just models. But, Palmer did use them in several other music videos.
When I was a kid, my friends and I were always trying to figure out if they could play or not. 🤣 Then we just said screw it and enjoyed the 'view'. Hey, we were teenage boys don't judge us! 😎
The ladies playing instruments are just props for the video, they are models....Robert is pure blue-eyed soul, just listen and view his videos on RU-vid he was one of the best. RIP.
He was also in a band after his solo stuff. The Power Station with John Taylor and Andy Taylor from Duran Duran. They had two hits: Some Like It Hot and Bang A Gong (Originally done by the 60's band T REX) These songs ROCK!✌❤🎶😁
@Rigby Lane curious. are you a Beatles fan? I see the user name. I could be wrong but if so, it sucks that so many of the Beatles songs are blocked! So many great amazing songs especially on my fav beatle album. The White Album. Take care! ✌❤🎶😁
Wow! Forgot all about "I didn't mean to turn you on" had to listen again, great song!!... I could be wrong, but I think Andy Taylor is playing guitar on this track..
Oh another thing! The models hair and makeup is based on the art of Patrick Nagel who was big in the 70s. He did the cover art for a Duran Duran album.
This legendary video was one of the most-aired videos on MTV. This was NOT Robert's real band, just models dressed as expressionless moving mannequins. It's actually painfully obvious that none of them know anything about playing instruments if you watch the video closely. He used these same models in a couple of other videos too. Robert was an incredibly talented singer and had been around for more than 20 years, but became a major star when this song was released in 1986. The album version of this song is actually much longer than the one that appeared in this video. Robert would go on to be a member of the supergroup Power Station in the late 80s and early 90s. He died of a heart attack in 2003. He was only 54.
Yes yes and YES! The Power Station with Robert Palmer on lead vocals and John Taylor and Andy Taylor from Duran Duran. "Some Like It Hot" and "Bang A Gong" are great rockin songs! ✌❤🎶😁
o yeah! love this song great vocal and the video wow!! this song is sexy ,rocks and swings at the same time, look at the gorgeous guitars on the right swinging away. o my!! great reaction jayvee .keep up the cool reactions ; )
FUN FACT: "Addicted To Love" was originally intended to be a duet with Chaka Khan. The song was made without her because her record company at the time would not grant her release to work on Palmer's label, Island Records. Chaka Khan is still credited for the vocal arrangements in the album liner notes.
Wow, talk about 80s royalty and bridging the racial gap! I've always felt as if the 80s was the decade we made up some serious ground in becoming ONE as a society. Clearly music was at the forefront of that movement! ✌🏼💗
The original version of Bad Case of Lovin' You, appeared on John "Moon" Martin's 1978 album *Shots From A Cold Nightmare*. Robert Palmer's cover appeared in 1979.
I spun records (will again!) at a bar down the street from me, and I have Bad Case on a 45rpm record and it HIT'S for sure when I put it on. It get's the people going!
Robert Palmer was from England. ALL of the early British rockers were huge fans of American Blues artists. This is where they got their early musical influences from. So Robert’s voice having “Soul” is no coincidence. He.died in Paris, France, in 2003, from a sudden heart attack. He was 54.
You need to follow this with Shania Twain's 'Man, I feel like a woman '. You will understand why when you see her video. I'd still love to see you react to Shakespeare's Sister, 'Stay '.
This and "Simply Irresistible" are my favorites by him. He was also part of a collaboration band called the Power Station that had a cool song called "Some Like It Hot."
I’m 47 now. When this song came out it was so good I didn’t know it was a cover until afew years later. Like songs that are covers today if the can make it their own then they are genius.
Oh I love him. He had a lot of hits. "I Didn't Mean To turn You On". "Bad Case Of Loving You", "Simply Irresistible", "Mercy Mercy Me" and "Some Like It Hot" are some of his best known hits. The girls are just for the video. He uses them in the "Simply Irresistible" video also.
Yay!!! Robert Palmer was my 80s CRUSH! Always dapper and so sexy! Other hits include, "Simply Irresistible" and my favorite cover of "I Didn't Mean to Turn You On." RIP Robert Palmer.
Robert Palmer had an incredible blues voice - can recommend Every Kind of People and his song with UB40 I'll Be Your Baby Tonight - another fantastic group.
Robert Palmer was class personified...My daughter was 2-3 when this came out and she would throw her arms up in the back seat and start dancing along to the song.
Always love that Beat drop, very cool. Robert Palmer was so awesome, so sad that he's no longer with us R.I.P. the women were just for this video, he was a solo artist Jay. This was used in the Tom Cruise Movie Cocktail.👌😎 Check out Some Guys Have All The Luck, Doctor Doctor, Bad Case Of Loving You & Simply Irresistible all great songs.👌
The two things I remember most about 2003: how sad I was that Robert Palmer passed and wondering why the world was getting so windy. Still sad about both. 💜💨
A lot of soul for someone who looks like an estate agent! Lol Can’t get more 80s than this video. Was very slick for that time and using the models as the band was a genius move. Great song and reaction. 💖
Adore Robert Palmer, saw him in concert he was amazing 😍they were for the video the women, he was ahead of his time. He did wonderful Ballets as well love him. Love your reaction too the video 😀😀
In the concert I was so lucky enough to see him in he did a duel off with Rod Stewart singing “ Some guys have all the luck “ as they had both had hits singing this song . As you would expect it was absolutely fantastic.RIP Robert , I feel you were never appropriated enough .
When we were in high school a bunch of friends and I dressed up like all the chicks from the Simply Irresistible video. Listen to that one next Jay. Rest In Peace Robert Palmer 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Robert Palmer on vocals, Andy Taylor on lead guitar, and Tony Thompson on drums. All had their trademark sound. 3 of the 4 guys from the group The Power Station. Awesome stuff!!
Your reaction???? They are models. YOU GOT THAT SMILE!!! Still bobbing the head, chair dancing!!!! And again, you reacted to how we did... "back in day"....Love you. Have a great night!!!!!💝💝💝💝💝💝🙋♀️
Love this music video, many years ago my Dad, and friends got up and performed this song - karaoke style at a small country town function, they brought the house down. Dad is now in his 80’s and will break out into song when he hears this song!
Before even listening or watching, I just want to say...and please TRUST me on this..please react to Robert Palmer, Sailin' Shoes/Hey Julia/Sneakin; Sally Through the Alley Medley! You will be SO glad you did! I am an old woman and we know these things! btw they are models and NOT the same in all of his videos
Every guy wanted to be Robert Palmer and if they were honest every one of us girls wanted to be a Palmer girl! Simply irresistible is also fabulous and you won't be able to sit still either. Bring it on J! Love you!❤️ Mama K in AZ
There's no official music video for that one, audio only. However, there is one for UHF (the song, not the movie) where Weird Al spoofs this video along with many other 80s music videos. The song itself is an original made for the movie.
Here is where Resting B. Face was introduced to the world for the first time, but we did not know at that time that some 25 years later it would be called so.🤠
Alright!! Good deal, Jay!! I was at one of his live concerts and several of the women in the audience were dressed like his girls, hair in buns and red lipstick. It was just his thing.
The music video (which uses the shorter single version of this song), directed by British photographer Terence Donovan, was one of the most noted of the era. The video features Palmer performing the song with an abstract "band", being a group of female models whose pale skin, heavy makeup, dark hair and seductive, rather mannequin-like expression follow the style of women in Patrick Nagel paintings. The five models in the video are Julie Pankhurst (keyboard), Patty Kelly (guitar), Mak Gilchrist (bass guitar), Julia Bolino (guitar), and Kathy Davies (drums). The song entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart the week ending 8 February 1986. The song ended up topping the Billboard Hot 100, as well as the Billboard Top Rock Tracks chart. It was one of the last 45 RPM singles to receive a million-selling Gold certification. It also reached number one in Australia and number five on the UK Singles Chart. "Addicted to Love" became Palmer's signature song, thanks in part to a popular video featuring high fashion models.
Bad Case Of Loving You is a great Palmer song, he is one of Britain's best soul voices of the 70's/80's IMO even though his music wasn't always in that genre.
Yeah he’s got soul. First album “SNEAKIN’ SALLY THROUGH THE ALLEY”-was recorded by Allen Toussaint in New Orleans. Backing band was THE METERS. Lowell George contributed.
Oh my Jovaughn, LOVE, LOVE Robert Palmer. He has many great songs. Two of my personal favorites are I Didn't Mean To Turn You On (debandana version live) and Simply Irresistible. He was also lead singer in a group called Power Station and had a hit with Some Like It Hot. Please try these songs. Thanks for this heart throb memory.
I saw Palmer at a smallish venue in Cleveland. The radio guys told everyone to dress up for the show.Palmer always had a tie on.He looked out at the crowd and was obviously amused. He said you guys look great. A great show.
Dude I'm shocked you still haven't reacted to BERLIN- "TAKE MY BREATH AWAY". One of the themes to the movie "TOP GUN" and a timeless classic. Knowing you're typical reactions, you'll be blown away. Matter of fact, you'll have to run that back and it might just take your breath away.
Robert palmer was great. He passed a little while back but had a band called vinegar Joe, "never met a dog" is a great song. As well as a trio of songs that all hook together from "sneakin Sally through the alley". "sailin' shoes, hey Julia", sneakin Sally... ". Listen to them in that order they are usually all played together.
