@jude jackson So does Kim Carnes who's the female Rod Stewart. :-) Don't forget all those albums covering the American Standards from the 40's. Etc. that Rod released.
For a bit, Faces were the best rock band on the planet. Everyone should watch every second of this actual live show. Ronnie Lane's bass tone! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1xHBjeiqzkQ.html
I'm Losing You is a Temptations Cover Song. He idolized David Ruffin (The Guy With The Eyeglasses). He got to perform with him in the 1970's. Also in later years he had The Temptations sing with him on The Motown Song. He also did a CD Called Soul where he did interpretations of various Songs including Two Motown Classics. Tracks Of My Tears (that Smokey Robinson Sang backup on) and My Cherie Amour (that Stevie Wonder played the Harmonica on).
@@laminage I know that it's a cover but I really like their version Rare Earth also covered it. The video of Faces doing it live at BBC has a great drum solo by Kenny Jones. Can't go wrong whether it's the original or the covers. All 3 versions are fantastic.
This was The Faces and it was only live in the sense that they were there miming. The 'mandolin player' in this clip is John Peel a legendary British DJ who definitely did not play mandolin.
@@EdwardGregoryNYC ...that was actually one of the Top of the Pops tv show DJ'S, a guy by the name of John Peel. He never actually played mandolin coz the real sound on the pre recording was band member Ray Jackson, who refused to mime on the show. The stand in band member for the show was actually hamming playing a tambourine.
Love Rod Stewart. My grandma thought he had a "cute tush" lol. His song "Forever Young" came out when I was in nursing school and mom got it on a 45 and played it every day as I'd leave for school. I've still got that 45 but can't get through it without tears.
Back in the day variety shows used to get bands to perform but they’d mimic the song. Unfortunately not live but it is good you get to hear the studio version 😊
Whoa, Spencer, I had forgotten about the Association. They have some great songs to their credit. Along Comes Mary is one of my all time favorites. Thanks for bringing it back to my attention.
@@lisawilliams9504 see, Never My Love, I had forgotten about that one too. Jeez, it's great getting these 'give and takes' cause it just gives the old memory a kick to head to remember these songs. Thanks to all for that.
Love, love, love Rod Stewart, one of the best distinctive voices out there!! You won't find any other music artist that sounds like the great Rod Stewart!! This man is just, "CLASSIC" no other word sums up this amazing musical artist. This guy here has a fan following that's simply unreal!! You can ask most any person that is 50 years and beyond if they know who Rod Stewart is, I can promise you that 90% will have know problem not only telling you that they know him, but the first song that they will relate to him is "Maggie May"!!! Rod Stewart's music and songs are well known all over the world, he has so many hits it's hard not to listen to an entire album, or in today's world CD'S. All that I want to say is that your in for a big treat listening to this famous artist. Enjoy, enjoy, ENJOY!!
This was a long time ago. I was in my final year of college at Arizona State University in Phoenix, Arizona and this song was huge for us. Along with Carol King's Tapestry Album and everything Elton had for us. This was a special time in my life. 50 years ago.
Oh thank you Jayvee , I love Rod Stewart. I just saw him in concert about 5 yrs ago in Texas and he still sounded good. Sailing is another good one, but he has so many great songs.
Rod the Mod! Please do Reason To Believe, Mandolin Wind, Every Picture Tells A Story, Young Turks. You've got another rabbit hole here because Rod is amazing. Thanks!
I have loved Maggie May since it came on the radio in 1971! One of my all time favorite songs. My husband and I saw Rod Stewart in Vegas about 12 years or so ago. He put on a great show and I was thrilled to hear him sing Maggie May in person! He still had his voice and sounded great!! His was one of the best concerts I’ve seen. When we got our Golden Retriever puppy, we named her Maggie May. She is 9 years old now. ❤️🎵
Rod Stewart has kind of moved with the times, much to chagrin of his fans. I would suggest Sailing, Young Turks, You're in My Heart, Forever Young, Tonights the Night, You Wear it Well, I Don't Want to Talk About It, The First Cut is the Deepest. Now people are going to have opinions on what decade Rod's best songs were and he was a sell out in the 80's, etc... However, that same guy that sang Some Guys Have All The Luck also had earlier hits, Da Ya Think I'm Sexy? and Hot Legs. His playfulness with some songs gives a it of reprieve for all the beautiful, yet sad, melancholy ones, regardless of decade.
Love me some Rod Stewart! And so did my Mom! One of my favorite memories is that I got to take my Mom to a Rod Stewart concert! She LOVED IT! And he puts on one hell of a show! Thank you for bringing me that wonderful memory. Miss you Mom 💔 💥💯🖤🎶🤘 RIP Mom
It always amazes me when I see someone react to an older song. We listened to everything when I was growing up. Rod Stewart is a favorite. I loved Maggie May. If you want to know I am 58 yrs and a black female.
It top of the pops so yes defo lip sync, really annoyed the bands to have to do it. I love watching some of TOTP2 from the late 70s early 80s when the bands are mucking about with the lip sync as a bit of fun, because they know that we know they’re not really playing live, even though they all could. 😂
Almost 50yrs after this song was penned, it's still an iconic tune. In 1971, I was just 6yrs old. Yet, I remember the words so clearly. This was my first experience with Rod Stewart.
Rod has 50 years of great songs to explore and is still performing. A giant rabbit hole. I remember buying this album in 71 on an 8 track for $5. Some of his many songs: A Reason to Believe. Do You Think I’m Sexy. Tonight’s the Night. Forever Young
Huge rabbit hole. First artist I followed when I was about 10 probably. Love Rod. Chose Forever Young as my mother/ son dance when he got married. My fav. Song.
So great that you’ve discovered Rod Stewart ! This track never gets old..... saw Rod on You Tube surprise a busker singing this song - he joined in and sang along with him ..... class!
Thank you! Love Maggie Mae! It's on my top ten 70s playlist. A number of these musicians went on to be famous in other bands. For more Rod Stewart how about Forever Young [if you have a kid it will make you cry :) .]
Your enthusiasm is exactly what I felt in 1971 the first time I heard him. I‘be been a lifelong fan. I have every album he has ever done. I have had the opportunity to photograph him several times..
Rod Stewart has that unmistakable raspy voice that you identify the second he starts to sing anything! Thanks for reacting, I haven't heard this song in a really long time! Forever Young is one of those songs that will get stuck in your head, would love to see what you think! Tonight's The Night is a super sexy, get it on song you should check out too:)
I saw Rod Stewart in the summer of '71 in an outdoor concert in Boston. The warmup act was The Flying Burrito Brothers. This was at the height of popularity for Maggie May. They did not disappoint!
Rod is a great singer and Maggie May was a very very popular song, Rod has been a favourite of my Wife and I now for sixty odd years and when our Daughter was born we named her Maggie after this song...p.s. I have every song of Rod Stewarts and have seen him live twice...and I am 70 years old now...a great...great singer !!!!! I loved your reaction.....
I was a firefighter in Galveston, Texas, at fire station #2 the first time I heard Maggie Mae. We were in the eye of a tropical storm. A cop I knew pulled up to the station, we three firefighters went out and were talking to him. He had a transistor radio, and this song came on. Even with the radio's crappy speaker, this song blew us away. Who is that!?! We had never heard of Rod Stewart.
This was recorded on a UK pop show called Top Of The Pops made by the BBC (one of the UK’s TV networks). You get great performances from the 60’s and 70’s, and most of the time the bands played live. The quality is so high because they would have have great sound engineers.
I really enjoy your reactions and am thrilled you have discovered Rod Stewart. He is in my top 5 best voices of pop/rock. He's a legendary multi Grammy and other award winner and platinum selling artist for a reason. His 1981 Nashville Tennessee concert was one of the best I attended ever. Of course it didn't hurt that Tina Turner opened for him in her come back tour.. Keep checking out great artists like this from all eras and I'll keep watching.
I am so glad you enjoyed Maggie May. Rod Stewart is a Legend! I saw him in London in the 1980s. "Sailing" is a beautiful song and "The Killing of Georgie" is heartbreaking.
I was 3 when this was released, and for some reason I absolutely fell IN LOVE with the song when I heard it (heady subject matter for a toddler) ... so much so that I begged my mom to buy the album. She did. All these years later, I still love it! AND I still have the album!
Rod Stewart is probably the artist I’ve seen live more than any other. His vocals are like no one else. He has so many great songs both solo and with the Faces; my absolute favourite is a song with the Faces-You Can Make Me Dance You Can Make Me Sing. Happy discovering!
Had the pleasure of seeing Rod Stewart live ,in my hometown in 2019, he is still an amazing vocalist and showman...in his 70s ,check out I Don't Wanna Talk About It, First Cut Is The Deepest and many more, just a fantastic artist
So happy you finally listened to Rod Stewart...his body of work is phenomenal...If Only, For The First Time, Rhythm of My Heart, This Old Heart of Mine, I Don't Wanna Think About It, omg the list goes on and on...enjoy!
I remember seeing Rod in Madison Square Garden in September of 1972 and he wore that red jacket. The reason his voice is still special (I saw him in Vegas March 11 this year (a present from my hubby for our 45th anniversary of last year) he had throat cancer early this century and while recuperating he had lessons from a Cantor. Still does the singing exercises every morning.
