I was very fortunate to see Roy around 1980 or so, one of the underrated guitar player's, guitar player, one of the best tones ever out of those Fender guitars I saw him play. He often left you in wonder the way he worked the neck, pulling emotion out of crystal clear notes and a master of sustain. Try Sweet Dreams from the same show, another shining moment from an all time great. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎶

First saw Roy in 1976. Had no idea who he was at the time but he blew me completely away. It amazes me that only within the past couple of years people have finally discovered Roy Buchanan. Roy blows most of the 'legends' away. Especially the Clapton, Slash, BB King, et al crowd.

The greatest guitar player no one's ever heard of. (And maybe the greatest guitar player of anyone you HAVE heard of.)

Great Reaction and much respect for Roy.... I was lucky enough to witness him at the Exit In (Nashville, TN) around this time... He played with very light strings so he could do that trick with the volume knob and the hi E or last string often would break... I witnessed this and he just kept going on the B string, "next string available" but had to play past the neck onto the pickups (guitarists will know) absolute legend. When I watch these clips now, he seems like a college professor of guitar with the "Beard" and serious face looking at his neck (Even though he does not need to) as he knows what he is doing... Most great guitarists do not have to look, Roy looks for "Intensity" you can see it in his face as he plays.... No AI in 2023 can duplicate that. Glad I was there and witnessed it and thank you for reacting.... RIP Roy, needs more respect !

Note: he plays his Tele straight through his amp. No pedals or other stuff! Seriously amazing.

He used his pinky to control the volume knob, and got more depth and variety of tone than someone else using a board full of pedals. He was a true wizard of the Telecaster. I hope I live long enough to hear another guitarist that I think is better than Roy Buchanan, but I can't even comprehend that possibility at this point.

Wow, absolutely brilliant pick their Jesse. Any friend of Roy Buchanan is a friend of mine. Yeah it is a shame that he has been largely ignored for His Brilliant, passionate, and unique approach to the guitar. He was such an influence on many of the people that are heralded these days as guitar Heroes. There is a live version from Austin City Limits if I remember correctly of him playing "the Messiah Will Come Again" that will make you literally cry. It's that freaking good.Big shout out to John and Dolly for such a heartfelt reaction. Cheers. M. PS... stylistically I'm going to say that the mighty Celtic Frost has nothing to do with Roy Buchanan. Except for a fierce passion, intense integrity, and they to do not get the love that they should for being groundbreaking genre innovators. See what I did there?

Awesome! I saw Roy in 1972 in Boston. Everyone was tripping and wasted as per usual. It was grand I'll never forget parts of it.. Roy was freaking soaring playing "The Messiah"

Wolf Hunterz, Roy was the Supreme Guitar Master. He was extremely quirky, indulged In booze and drugs constantly, one never knew what his next mood would reveal. Probably about the best ever Guitar Slinger. He was his own person, and he didn't sell his soul, so he died a depressed genius. I'll love my hero Roy forever. He was the Best!

Such a great guitarist that went under the radar. played a mean telecaster. I got to see him live and what a treat. tragically he was arrested in 1988 public intoxication and some domestic charge. he was found the next day hanging in his cell. they called it suicide but there were signs of something other. RIP

Watch his other performance called Roy's Blues. He takes a sip of beer in the middle of a solo without missing a note.

Arguably the best in the world.
@rfugate42
@rfugate42 5 месяцев назад
I'm not even sure it's arguable, lol. The depth of sound he got from a Tele is nothing short of mystical. Using nothing but his pinky and the volume knob he was able to create an almost infinite variety of tones. As a Tele player myself I have literally never watched this video without getting goosebumps, and as far as I'm concerned, if Heaven is a real place Roy Buchanan is in the house band.

The song was written by Billy Roberts, not by Jimi Hendrix. Hendrix covered it, and made it well known.

Roy Buchanan was far superior to Hendrix Clapton anyone . He was a few years before these guys. He used no gimmicks all he used was one amp a guitar Telecaster usually and his fingers.
