We had a club back in 72. We played Sly & the Family Stone, Allman Brothers, Led Zepplin, BB King, Pink Floyd, and many other incredible and diverse styles of music. The only criteria we had was the music had to be great. The way music is pigeonholed today makes people miss so much amazing music.

My 1st concert ever was seeing Sly in Madison Square Garden in 1970. It changed my life!! The 60 y.o ushers in their orange vests were dancing harder than the 20 y.o. freaks as 18,000 people never sat down!!! Also on the bill that night was Gladys Knight and th ePips and rare Earth - I'm still recovering. Sly was definitely a genius, way ahead of his time. The musicians of the Family Stone consisted of men, women, black, white, and family members which was hardly seen in music at that time. Larry Graham, their bass player invented the slap bass technique that all funk bands built on. They were so unique, so tight, so funky, so hot that you had not choice but to dance. I heard that Miles Davis said that he wished he had what they had as he watched them from backstage in 1969. Listen to "Sex Machine" or any other cut from the album "Stand". Their performance at Woodstock was killer!!!!

As A Granddad who loves music, I respect your reviews. This is such a Brilliant tune that I often still spin, I play the vinyl 45 & mix it with Arrested Developments cover. The Lyrics are all important.

This is my favorite SFS song. I couldn't agree more about music healing this world. I grew up in the late 60's into the 70"s. Music was so much more cohesive then. Genre's would be mixed. Not until I became an adult did I realize how my heart and been shaped by all the vast music I had been exposed to. Then music became splintered more and more. With reaction channels, especially this one, people from all different generations, races, places, and walks of life are sharing great music. Jordan and Amber, I love your beauty that runs through and through. I say it every time. I'm so proud that you are Oklahomans. Love from Tulsa! xoxo

Jordan recognized it from a commercial that I know of, too, but I thought he was going to say he knew the version by "Arrested Development". We used to sing this in class when I was in the 7th grade because my teacher, (with his cute self) loved this song and played it often, along with other great songs. He also sang and played acoustic guitar. He was an awesome teacher. 🙂❤

I LOVE Sly and The Family Stone and this is my favorite song of theirs!! ❤ I'll always be a hippie at heart. I'm very much a product of the 60s n 70s. I clean house to this 😂😂On your own find a live version. You will love this even more!! Coming from believing in love and acceptance in the 60s n 70s is what makes me cry over what is happening with a the hate and separation today. We fought to come together. Now young people on the internet seem to be fighting to tear us back apart. I have granddaughters in college and they and their friends are not like that. You'd think they were from the 60s n 70s preaching love for everyone. I'm so proud of them. I'm blessed they all come to my house. We make lots of stuff together. They always want to know how we made beads and clothes and furniture and how we gardened and all that community stuff we did together. I love teaching them. When the soybeans were harvested we made soy milk.
