The rabbit hole that is Steely Dan is quite deep. Back in the day when a store was selling a stereo system the salesman would play Steely Dan’s album “Aja” to show how good the stereo was. The Aja album is known to be one of the best produced albums of all time.
@mrtim5363
@mrtim5363 5 месяцев назад
Carried the "Aja" CD with me when shopping for high end stereo equipment. I don't want to hear what your demo sounds like, I want to know what this sounds like. & The good ones would laugh & say that's our Demo disk. Everybody that was serious about music knew it was the standard.

DUDE!!! ... YOU get Steely Dan better than any other reaction I've seen! 💯😎 Its jazzy as hell, but the lyrics are strait "Street Level" shit! Every SINGLE Steely Dan song is about some grimey, street-level, gangsta shit... and they made those songs in, like 1975! 💯😎 I'm glad that, FOR ONCE, someone recognized what they are about! 💯 Smooth ass music that hides the fact that those dudes basically were trying to talk about how fucked up things can be. 😎💯 They have that L.A. "Vato Loco" shit on this song, but EVERY song they make has a dark-ass thing behind it.

You know Shon, the guitarist Skunk Baxter, is actually a rickect scientist. Just like Brian May of Queen. Rock and Roll can save a life and they aren't all druggie and stuff. Look at Ozzy, one name ,like Cher 😂 Serously, he did so many drugs yet what a contribution to this Rock and Roll, we love so much. Basically don't judge a book by its cover.❤❤ keep it up Shon!

Even tho we’ll almost inevitably get our heart broken we end up going back and trying it again because what are we going to do - live without love?? Isn’t it amazing when everything sounds SO right and SO natural that it seems almost inevitable?😊 Like it already existed and they just wrote it down? (Michelangelo said his incredible sculptures already existed inside the stone blocks: he merely liberated them)❤ Virtually all Bob Marley and Beatles songs seem this way: when you can sing along during your FIRST hearing??😮 Genius.

My Steely addiction began with this song in 1972 and that electric sitar solo by Denny Dias, and I'm still an addict. Too much is never enough. This is just an example of some of the finest music ever produced. Becker and Fagan are composers, musicians are their tools.

I was born in 61’ and got my first radio when I was 5 ! I fell in love with music as a baby and dancing to the twist with my mom. Was the only one who had such a love for music. Used to listen to my mom’s 45’s with her and dance to Elvis. A. Re cord she bought when she was a teen. She had all those 45’s until she sold them at a yard sale. As soon as I found out I ran over to the table and they were gone! A business man in our community everyone know had them all in his arms. I knew I could never get them back. Sad moment but my whole life’s special moments are tagged by music!

There is nothing better out there than the earlier eras. Now all you hear is voice corrections so they sound “perfect”. This is a me thing: I can appreciate every single element of this song and the real talent of Steely Dan…but I’ve never been able to get into them. It’s like Pink Floyd, I just cannot get there. As a kid my parents had all this stuff on vinyl, and I would love The Doors, The Stones, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Doobie Bros, etc. but certain bands I could never feel it; Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, Beatles, Eagles, America. Also, anyone else who reads all of this…did you or your parents have those speakers that had the pulsing lights on the front? Macrame plant hangers? Strings of beads in the doorways? A giant wooden spoon and fork on the kitchen/dining room wall?

The instrument after the Sitar solo is a Hammond B3 Organ a well known & well respected piece of equipment. & You may expect to hear it in music from other bands of the era. To give you an idea how tight Steely Dan is, a local session player played on one of their albums & commented on a radio show they, like the Bee Gees & Barbra Streisand were perfectionists. The DJ being a smart ass said Awww they made you play the same song all day? "Actually we spent 3 weeks on 8 bars. I don't mind, I'm not complaining. Some bands are that way & Steely Dan is one of them."
